Hi Sunderdeep Singh. Great conversation of the Diesel Engine vehicles. I own a Kia Seltos, 1.5 Diesel. The fuel efficiency in Bangalore City Drive is between 17 & 18kmpl. Previously I had a Suzuki Swift, 2014 again a Diesel. The fuel efficiency was easily 20 kmpl in Bangalore City drives. As rightly said that the Diesel Engine has a better efficiency due to high compression ignition, while in petrol engine, the compression is much lesser. The Thermal efficiency is as rightly pointed out is higher in Diesel engines than Petrol Engines. Coming to the point of the market leader leaving the diesel field, they designed a diesel engine with a inbuilt exhaust manifold, which cannot meet the BS6 norms. So, the investment at the fag end of the BS4, which was a major flaw in this engine, which could not meet the BS6 norms. The Turbo Petrol will show efficiency in the laboratory, but in the practical field, the efficiency dips badly because, the turbo charging of a petrol engine, will create a high knock. To control the knock & bring down the temperature, the petrol is sprayed to burn for reducing the knock but the power is not translated. This is contrary to the diesel engine which increases the fuel efficiency by turbo charging. Also please be understood that minimum of 3kW is required for charging an electrical vehicle. Is it a practical alternative to provide this amount of power at each charging point? Definitely not.
When you replace a car by ev The supply chain : 1. Doesn’t have to refine oil for that car (uses same power 2-3kWh for each litre of fuel refined) 2. Petrol pump doesn’t have to run for filling that car (10-20kW pump is needed for petrol pump) 3. Trains don’t have to transport oil from harbour to refinery and refinery to depot for those cars In 100% EV scenario, lot of energy which is being used (and wasted) just to produce, refine and transport oil won’t be needed anymore It can be diverted to EV charging
Just saw a brand new ACE Hydra Crane with BS3 Diesel still being sold in 2024 with no age limit and our 20 times cleaner BS6 Diesel car are told to be scrapped in 10 years.

Agree 100% I'm based in Delhi NCR and I have driven a Diesel i20 for 10 years and sold because of ban. But I've again bought a new Diesel car even if it's valid for 10 years only 😂 Diesel is very economical and efficient than petrol. Maruti and Tata are the biggest drivers behind Government opposition to Diesel
He has raised very genuine technical questions fuel consumption and carbon emissions. I m highly impressed with him . He has changed my design to buy a petrol car . Plz , write a letter to Gadakari ji . He is big promoter of ev & highly against for diesel cars . His points are very technical & govt should answer it .
100 % I agree with all the points, please someone should share this video with Skoda and VW Head at India, as my usage is more than 15k km/yr I am not able to change my vehicle as Diesel Engine Cars are not available with VW and Skoda, Skoda Kushaq VW Taigun should get Diesel Engine back with UV cut glass, 7 year paint warranty, 3 year unlimited km warranty better AC with proper Switch/button in its facelift,
Diesels are the best in any which way petrol cannot beat it Thats why i sold my tsi polo and bought a Korean diesel machine just because germans do not have a diesel 😢 But i am happy i have a diesel machine which performs like a 💎
I too had the same thought process on the Diesel Engines, I had 2011, 1.4ltr TDCI Ford Figo, it has run through 1 lakh Kilometers, still capable of delivering 30km/ltr on Highways with AC and 12 to 16 km/ltr at City driving conditions. I Like Diesel engines most rather than driving the Petrol NA and Turbo engine vehicles
I was a Diesel Lover too and we still own a Diesel turbo at home. But after driving the 1.5 TSI dsg for 2.5 years, clearly i love to go for 1.5TSI every single time. The 1.5tsi delivers enough power and delivers it in a way that i am very very satisfied with just because i can speak to the occupants in the car when i drive and when there are no occupants, i can hear to good music even without the volume being as loud as in a Diesel.
I am driving XUV 7OO D AT as well as SONET D AT. Both the cars are hoot to drive and silent cabins. So silent that sometimes the silence is threatening, if my wife is angry 😝

Thanks for the video Sunderdeep Ji!! It was high time someone stood up for diesel engines in passenger car segment. I don't understand why the hate towards Diesels? Its unfortunate that there is no sedan currently in the Indian Market with a diesel engine.
Gov wants to focus on money. More petrol sale, not reducing market barrel prices to end consumer and now adding ethanol to 20% with same price to get additional 10% gain in money. DIESELS are better fuel PERIOD but all things depends on what and how our GOV thinks. Sadly the think tanks prefer money over logic. Sadly it won’t change anytime soon…
I m also not happy with govt decision to ban diesel engine car and decreasing life span of diesel car gradually after ever 2-3 year by getting lame excuses by government to ban diesel engine and decreasing it's life
Very well explained and such an eye opening discussion 👍. I would also suggest speaking on whether older bs4 engines can survive in the near future, when the government is changing the grade of bs6 and 7 diesel. Thank you and God bless.

41:30 diesel locomotive is actually diesel hybrid (AC Motor running via diesel Genset) power losses are lower than diesel hydraulic (equivalent of TC gearbox with diesel engine) coal running steam engine runs directly by coal, there was also concept of steam turbine locomotive which are much more efficient than steam piston action
Govt is unclear of concept and targeting diesel cars when diesel cars are not emitting dangerous gases which EVs can generate, petrol is expensive so Govt is forcing us to naturally go for EV, when the choice given by Govt is incorrect, Govt rethink and come in the game of mass driving market
This conversation is amazing and made us think on varity of topics such as Europe and Asia influence, it is not just about enthusiasm but also a luxury experience for Indian middle class and overall asians.. Kudos brother.. very informative video.. Yeh raise hona chahiye👍🏻
Okay, this is my take. The soot emission or PM 2.5 emission is higher from diesel engines. We all still see black soot from all diesel engines even after implementation of Euro 6 modification. Even though DPF traps soot , one has to still pay extra to burn the carbon at higher temperatures or get it cleaned by paying extra. Soot causes increase in trapped solar radiation within the atmosphere causing rise in temperature and global warming. Hence diesel is dirty fuel. Petrol combustion would not result in that quantity of soot formation hence does not require DPF. Imagine this soot and fly ash from the exhaust breathed in and trapped in lungs. How will you remove it ? Change my mind please.
Very True, the funniest part is, The guest speaks so highly of VWAG diesels, if they were so good and clean why did they have to resort to cheating to meet emission norms? He then says that due to 3 tech (DPF, CAI SCR) all the particulate is captured, ok. Then during next segment of “how to maintain diesel in urban running” he suggest Italian tuneup to clear DPF by driving at 100 in 3rd gear so that all the particulate etc gets ejected out of the exhaust So the particulate and soot which the DPF was installed to prevent going into environment……ends up in the environment all over again
You are saying as is same what i was saying with my friends from BS6 introduction in India. And promotion of EV on other hand. We are on same though of this topic.

Hi Manish Ji & Sunderdeep ji I am also diesel lover but my bad luck I am resident of delhi, I had swift 2016, what you told about 2007 swift & 2011 swift is absolutely correct, I have driven both the generation and loved the performance, so bought the same for me, but very disappointed than I tuned it from tunotronic, and it becomes rocket, due to the fear of diesel ban I sold it out and bought 4th manual city, but I badly missed my swift due to fuel efficiency it provides, honda city is great but when I rev it its efficiency drop down badly, so agry on your all points.

Dear Sirs! this entire video is good from academic point of view. But its bitter reality that govt finally forced out Diesel motors. EV is current focus of the Govt specially respected Gadkari sir. He is even focusing on hydrogen cars. All in all Govt forcing Ethenol blending more than 20% that ultimately killing BS4 petrol engines. You both worked really hard to share such nice facts. Good luck to both of you.

Volumetric consumption pe maine apne friends ko same baat batai jo aapne boli but unko voh samajh nahi ayi.. y yeh bolo mai unko samjha nahi paya.. one car with same brand with same CC and different engine ( PETROL AND DIESEL) give different mileage, spouse petrol petrol car give 9-10 kmpl mileage in city, and the car with same CC in diesel gives 14-15 kmpl.. so petrol is less cleaner then diesel..
Perfect logic of SCR and DEF technology. As per the Indian government, a 10-year-old - 6 lacs - swift TAXI - over 2 lac km running is equal to a 10-year-old Audi of 60 lacs - completed 40 K km. I have had an Audi A4 for the last 10 years, but I can't drive to Delhi... Pure Illogical.
All the points are valid. Quite an enlightening conversation ❤ But it boils down to respective usage. If one commutes in b2b traffic, diesel won’t make more sense, although fuel cost would be lower, overall maintenance in long run might be much higher
Similar logic can be applied in Liquor - Typical Beer consists 8% Alcohol - so in 650 ml you consume 52 ml of alcohol while in Strongest Rum the alcohol is 40% so even when you drink Patiala peg actual alhohoi is only 36 ml. So one bottle of Beer is more dangerous than 1 peg of Strong Rum - और असली मजा तो रम् मैं है मुनिष जी दिल से बात करते हैं - और इनसे आप ही बुलवा सकते हैं

Though VW doesn't manufacture diesels globally now but in some key markets Skoda is giving diesels in Octavia,Superb and Kodiaq.VWAG should bring 2.0 Tdi and assemble these cars in India.
sir ji thanks for the info🙏you both are wiki of German engines. I am in process of buying a new car . I have a Maruti diesel car, which gives around 20 miles. My only concern is about safety. But what options does an end user now have in diesel? New car: 1) Creta or seltos diesel, which is not safe. 2) Nexon and XUV300 safe, but those are compact, and the drive is not that great. 2) Jeep Compass, harrier and safari They have 8-10 in city and 13-14 on highway. Also, Jeep have higher maintenance 3) The XUV 700, Thar, and Scorpion have the same mileage as above. Old Car: 1) Very rare to find a good German car. 2) If we get a good car, we are lucky; otherwise, the parts will be expensive. Petrol option: If you buy 1.5 tsi the new cost is very high, and when you try to buy a top model, you feel why not to buy a Scorprio N or a Harrier? But if you buy a used 1.5 tsi around 15-16 you will get a less used car, so there are fewer chances of a very bad car, and it will be in warranty. You will save on cost and 1.5 giving 11-14 mileage looks like the best deal in current scenario. Please ignore if any misinformation in this and guide me if i am making right decision by buying used 1.5 tsi or should buy new diesel car since finding safe diesel car with good mileage is like finding diamond 😀
What I think is that ultimately, the government also realized that they are making more money on petrol. Jayada khapat to jayada tax v. Secondly, diesel chunki main fuel hai for heavy transportation and agriculture so ek level s upar uska price badhane m pareshani hai but petrol m nahi. Third point, Diesel cars khud itna fuel efficient hoti hai ki koi usko chor k dusri technology like EV ya hybrid per move nahi kerna chahta. But now out of compulsion they are moving as running a petrol car is must costlier. I had been a fan of diesel cars. But lastly, I had to move to a petrol and cng car because of temporary ban on diesel cars in winter in Delhi NCR. I feel diesel is a wonderful and very stable fuel and diesel cars are fun to drive. The government is just killing it for vested interest. Nice discussion. 👍
Thank you for sharing your valuable insights and knowledge. Mr. Munish's expertise is truly commendable. Your videos provide comprehensive and clear explanations, which is highly appreciated.
Sirji Can you please have a detailed video on VW Touareg ,V6 TDi which was introduced to Indian market in 2008-2014. I am also a fan of VW Jetta 2.0 TDi and using it very comfortably.
I have mitsubishi lancer 1998 cc engine with 68 BHP ... Big engine with low power can survive for next 100 years ... And diesel engines are great to drive ...
In my house we have petrol i20, harrier, polo diesel tdi, alto 800. I spend more on fuel on i20 then bigger more powerful harrier. Then people wont believe but my 1.5 polo fuel cost is lower than alto 800s. All cars run similar in my house but the polo ends up being most cost efficient. Every month on average 1500 ka diesel polo mei lagta hai 2000 ka petrol alto mei lagta hai. Harrier 2000 ka diesel khata hai i20 2500 ka petrol khata hai. Sari gariyo ka km running same hai. Service cost yearly 5000 hai alto ka. Polo ka i do it on my own because yaha vw ka centre nai hai we get the top quality filters from bodmo 8 to 10 k mei uska pura service ho jata hai with good engine oil. Harrier ka is quite reasonable from tata service centre costs 8 to 10k. i20 ka 12 13 k ata hai from service centre. Ofher thing is polo ka service i do it on my own at 1.5 yrs & running it since 10yrs there has been no mechanical problem
Fortuner and Innova have DPF cleaning button while standing all other Manufacturers should equip their vehicles with this too making it easy for people to own and maintain their vehicles. I have seen tata service centers lined up with vehicles for DPF cleaning requiring their diagnostic laptop attached to each car for 20-30 minutes causing delays in service.
Sir tata jo hai woh apne diesel engines main abhi bhi dpf nhi dete na usme urea dalta hai (except harrier and safari as they have FCA sourced diesel) tata waalon ne ek doosri technology ka use kiya hai jisse woh threshold point (limit) ke paas chala jaata hai but abhi comply kar rahi hain
Munish Ji, Excellent informative discussion but people are bound by the government rules, therefore, we will have to follow the rules irrespective of our likes and dislikes. Yes, you are correct that geopolitics and geo economics plays a crucial role but we have very high expectations from the present government that it will act accordingly to the best interest of the country and its people. Lastly, Maruti is not as powerful that it can compel government to act according to its whims and fancies if other factors are not considered.
Agreed on the various iterations of Swift Di, had a 2010 model and i would say it was one of the best Diesel hatchback cars i had owned, powerful yet fuel efficient. I would wholly agree on Maruti's agenda of blaming Diesels. There was a time when Maruti used to sing praises of the Diesel engine. From one fine day they started running advertisements that Diesels are bad, uneconomical and expensive to maintain. Which means, we Diesel customers (had an Scross 1.6 too) are fools? From this point of time I decided to stop buying any MS products. I drive a Gurkha BS6, the tail pipe emissions are so clean with zero visible smoke. Fortunately my Gurkha doesn't need Adblue since it runs on LNT.
Ek point taxes bhi hai Isiliye electric vehicle ki taraf shift Kiya ja rha hai buyers ko bcz electric vehicles ki age comparatively kam hoti hai Jisse buyer jaldi gaadi badlega Jisse government and banks and manufacturers subko fayda hoga

For people who can go with used cars should consider these to fulfill their dreams as the new cars unless they are CBU have compromised quality as compared to their own pre-2020 cars?
When you replace a car by ev
The supply chain :
1. Doesn’t have to refine oil for that car (uses same power 2-3kWh for each litre of fuel refined)
2. Petrol pump doesn’t have to run for filling that car (10-20kW pump is needed for petrol pump)
3. Trains don’t have to transport oil from harbour to refinery and refinery to depot for those cars
In 100% EV scenario, lot of energy which is being used (and wasted) just to produce, refine and transport oil won’t be needed anymore
It can be diverted to EV charging
Absolutely what they said is true but please explain why Diesel engines make less BHP and more torque . Thanks
Just saw a brand new ACE Hydra Crane with BS3 Diesel still being sold in 2024 with no age limit and our 20 times cleaner BS6 Diesel car are told to be scrapped in 10 years.
Sunderdeep sir if I am not wrong, on Sunday evening around 5:30 pm in siswan I saw this car for a second passed through opposite side , same car and PB 08 no. Is that were you?😅 Your 15 yr old subscriber ❤
Agree 100%
I'm based in Delhi NCR and I have driven a Diesel i20 for 10 years and sold because of ban.
But I've again bought a new Diesel car even if it's valid for 10 years only 😂
Diesel is very economical and efficient than petrol.
Whoa man ! The knowledge level is insane ! Thankyou Munish ji and Sunderdeep ji ..... Loved it ! basically Maruti Suzuki messed up
100 % I agree with all the points, please someone should share this video with Skoda and VW Head at India, as my usage is more than 15k km/yr I am not able to change my vehicle as Diesel Engine Cars are not available with VW and Skoda, Skoda Kushaq VW Taigun should get Diesel Engine back with UV cut glass, 7 year paint warranty, 3 year unlimited km warranty better AC with proper Switch/button in its facelift,
Diesels are the best in any which way petrol cannot beat it
Thats why i sold my tsi polo and bought a Korean diesel machine just because germans do not have a diesel 😢
But i am happy i have a diesel machine which performs like a 💎

I too had the same thought process on the Diesel Engines, I had 2011, 1.4ltr TDCI Ford Figo, it has run through 1 lakh Kilometers, still capable of delivering 30km/ltr on Highways with AC and 12 to 16 km/ltr at City driving conditions.
I Like Diesel engines most rather than driving the Petrol NA and Turbo engine vehicles
TDCIs are gem... Superb engines
Hyundai diesels are very refined.
I am driving XUV 7OO D AT as well as SONET D AT. Both the cars are hoot to drive and silent cabins.
So silent that sometimes the silence is threatening, if my wife is angry 😝
Yes Right, sir mene last month hi 1st gen 2007 Swift drive ki , that was unmatchable, bai g 2nd gear ch ta accelerator te foot rakne hi nhi deti clutch left karte hi rocket 😮😮😮

one of the best video about Indian automotive. Truth spoken.

The reason why I got a Nexon diesel ⛽️
I m also not happy with govt decision to ban diesel engine car and decreasing life span of diesel car gradually after ever 2-3 year by getting lame excuses by government to ban diesel engine and decreasing it's life
Because of this critical topic, I'm subscribing to you! Thank you!
I own Ameo 1.5 TDI. it give me mileage of 26-30 on highway. Also power is vey good.
Very well explained and such an eye opening discussion 👍. I would also suggest speaking on whether older bs4 engines can survive in the near future, when the government is changing the grade of bs6 and 7 diesel. Thank you and God bless.
100% agree on swift part..driving 2017 swift nw and power is too reduced whi h was there in older models

diesel locomotive is actually diesel hybrid (AC Motor running via diesel Genset)
power losses are lower than diesel hydraulic (equivalent of TC gearbox with diesel engine)
coal running steam engine runs directly by coal, there was also concept of steam turbine locomotive which are much more efficient than steam piston action

EV has zero tailpipe emission which gases are you talking about? name them
This conversation is amazing and made us think on varity of topics such as Europe and Asia influence, it is not just about enthusiasm but also a luxury experience for Indian middle class and overall asians..
Then during next segment of “how to maintain diesel in urban running” he suggest Italian tuneup to clear DPF by driving at 100 in 3rd gear so that all the particulate etc gets ejected out of the exhaust
So the particulate and soot which the DPF was installed to prevent going into environment……ends up in the environment all over again

You are saying as is same what i was saying with my friends from BS6 introduction in India. And promotion of EV on other hand. We are on same though of this topic.
The more videos you make the more we want to celebrate that we have such a honest understanding and nice person who is speaking up for the facts.
In '21 when we were buying i20 my father was against diesel as they were slowly phasing out diesels but I was adamant that I only want diesel no NA petrol no Turbo petrol.
I have a diesel car .. and i totally agree with you....
Hearing to this while driving my kia seltos 1.5 diesel achieving 17 kmpl in city traffic.
Bahoot achaa. I have tata harrier i changed its engine oil to 5 w 40 .its 1 month old and afer 500 km i just change after market.Engine bahoot smooth and pickup very fast .done 150+kmph cruze on yamuna expressway. Its totally different then other harrier owners . please make this 0w20/16 scam in india market .and i am searching how to tweek car to stage 1 .some worth it option
Hows this possible?
Hi Manish Ji & Sunderdeep ji
I am also diesel lover but my bad luck I am resident of delhi, I had swift 2016, what you told about 2007 swift & 2011 swift is absolutely correct, I have driven both the generation and loved the performance, so bought the same for me, but very disappointed than I tuned it from tunotronic, and it becomes rocket, due to the fear of diesel ban I sold it out and bought 4th manual city, but I badly missed my swift due to fuel efficiency it provides, honda city is great but when I rev it its efficiency drop down badly, so agry on your all points.
Munish and sunder deep, hats off to you both. I drive rapid skoda 2012 koi hor gaddi chalan da man hi ni karda. Pl do continuous raise voice against 10/15 yr time frame for vehicles... thanks
Dear Sirs! this entire video is good from academic point of view.
I have a Swift VDI 2015 model.. have driven more than 1 lakh..
I'm looking to buy a new car now, but will never sell my swift disel.. isko chalane ka maza hi kuch alag hai.
Can you tell if its safe to buy Harrier diesel in the current situation??? Such a beautiful car but ugly situation
The duo we needed, good to see you both 🔥
Good Discussion, but TDI engine also faced huge lawsuit in the year 2015 for tweaking emissions....make a video on that too.
Prefer Disel anyday 🤘🤘
Should i go for Curvv 1.5 GDI or Virtus 1.0 TSI
Munish ji hats off to u your knowledge

Nice video over diesel.
Munish Sir whatever you explain is a genuine facts.
Really impressed with your knowledge I would like thank you to Sunder ji too for getting this video on your channel.
Very sad!
All the points are valid. Quite an enlightening conversation ❤
But it boils down to respective usage.
So one bottle of Beer is more dangerous than 1 peg of Strong Rum - और असली मजा तो रम् मैं है
मुनिष जी दिल से बात करते हैं - और इनसे आप ही बुलवा सकते हैं

Though VW doesn't manufacture diesels globally now but in some key markets Skoda is giving diesels in Octavia,Superb and Kodiaq.VWAG should bring 2.0 Tdi and assemble these cars in India.
Tata curv have disel unit without need dpf is best car. Why not others giving same
sir ji thanks for the info🙏you both are wiki of German engines.
I am in process of buying a new car . I have a Maruti diesel car, which gives around 20 miles. My only concern is about safety.
But what options does an end user now have in diesel?
New car:
1) Creta or seltos diesel, which is not safe.
2) Nexon and XUV300 safe, but those are compact, and the drive is not that great.
2) Jeep Compass, harrier and safari They have 8-10 in city and 13-14 on highway. Also, Jeep have higher maintenance
3) The XUV 700, Thar, and Scorpion have the same mileage as above.
Old Car:
1) Very rare to find a good German car.
2) If we get a good car, we are lucky; otherwise, the parts will be expensive.
Petrol option:
If you buy 1.5 tsi the new cost is very high, and when you try to buy a top model, you feel why not to buy a Scorprio N or a Harrier?
But if you buy a used 1.5 tsi around 15-16 you will get a less used car, so there are fewer chances of a very bad car, and it will be in warranty.
You will save on cost and 1.5 giving 11-14 mileage looks like the best deal in current scenario.
Please ignore if any misinformation in this and guide me if i am making right decision by buying used 1.5 tsi or should buy new diesel car since finding safe diesel car with good mileage is like finding diamond 😀
Brother, please for God sake go and test drive Kushaq or Taigun then take your call
@@kshreyasshenoy9501ok bro I am talking about 1.5 one that's not good your saying?
Ekdam sahi baat boli hai bhai aapne overall dekho to diesel engine kam carbon emit karega agar petrol ke comparison me 100 km tak chalaya jaye

Irrespective of mileage, diesel is more polluting! This whole logic of "using less fuel to cover same distance" hence less pollution is wrong

Munish Ji,
Excellent informative discussion but people are bound by the government rules, therefore, we will have to follow the rules irrespective of our likes and dislikes.
