    1) 10 year ban on old diesel cars by NGT was for old, bs2, bs3 vehicles. However a 10 year cap is being imposed even on BS4 & BS 6 vehicles ...how's that logical?
    2) Honda 1.5 Dtec, easily runs 20KMPL in city, whereas Suzki 1.5 petrol hardly manages 10 KMPL.
    Double the amount of fuel, double the amount of forex spent, how is banning diesel saving money ?
    How is burning 1 litre fuel more damaging than burning 2 litres ? Particulate etc was a issue, mostly in bs2/3, reduced by almost 70-80% in bs4/6.

    Some Stupid Legislation & Stupid Logic is killing the Diesel Dream. Having owned & driving Diesel cars from last 20+ years, I can't imagine how would I cope without the fun & efficiency Diesel cars provide. Already this DPF & EGR thing has ruined the simplicity & longevity of diesel engines. To Top it off Manufacturers are putting in 0W-30 motor oils in the engine so that they don't last long enough.

    • @lordofsevenrealms
      @lordofsevenrealms 22 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @psg5772 The true killer of the diesel dream is the carcinogenic nature of the emissions...which even for a hardcore diesel lover is not a tradeoff....we'll have to be content with larger turbo petros which are just as punchy as diesels if not more at times

    • @SkiNett
      @SkiNett 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Drive the 1.5 and 2.0 ltr TSI engines and they are as close as u could get to turbo diesels. We have both kinds of cars at home and now a days, I am opting more for the 2.0 TSI drives because I simply love the noiseless feeling with the ultra quick DSG shifts at the same time. Yes, efficiency is not the same but everything else like the punch etc is almost comparable !

    Everyone knows Mr. GADKARI is in favor of Ethanol
    No one knows the real reason

  • @anoorp

    We have to be cognisant as a vast country and its citizens that the diesel is the one of the most efficient and probably cleaner (on the highway vs a small petrol) way of traversing our country.
    The addition of DEFs and other Urea based nitrogen control agents makes it better than older petrol cars in the cities.
    In places likes NCR, we pay for road tax for 15 years while we are not allowed to drive it in our base city beyond 10 years, which is basically a legalised scam.
    This law needs a rethink, no questions about it.

    The last blow for diesels will be when GST or Road tax is reduced for Hybrids. The biggest issue with BS6 diesel is that you need to have constant highway runs. Only city runs with BS6 diesel causes issues with DPF, as it needs extra care

    The problem here is that bus trucks are running on diesel; the government cannot increase the price of this fuel just the way they can for petrol. The agenda is to force people to buy low-efficient petrol cars to boost gasoline sales. Until now, I never owned any petrol cars but only diesel, and the fuel economy it gave was outstanding. The turbo-petrols are not bad, but they are highly fuel-inefficient. I thought that like turbo diesel, the smaller turbo petrol engines would give similar mileage, but that's not the case in reality! You drive it with a little heavy foot, and it will give 10 kmpl mileage!!! The mileage difference between the turbo petrol and turbo diesel is on and averages 5 km/l, and the extra price we paid for petrol is 13 rupees per liter. It's killing both the way!!! Absolutely nonsense! I don't say turbo-petrols are bad, but running costs are unnecessarily high. Diesel would be my next car, for sure.

    Two things
    1. A full tank of def in Creta can give you upto 30000 km of used mostly(>80%) on highways
    And you don’t have to carry a def tank either…. After the low def warning , it’s still good to go for 1-1.5k km, and sealed def are available in petrol pumps/garages ; no fear of contamination either
    2. The technology used in Tata reduces mileage by about 25% when compared to equivalent cars from other oems

    Dear Hormazd, I sincerely thank you for calling out the government's ban on cars older than 10/15 years in the NCR as stupid and unintelligent. I agree with you entirely on how it is a fundamentally stupid law, that does nothing to solve the problem that it sets out to. In fact, the production of new cars (as opposed to keeping old ones running) causes more pollution, and the people in charge must either be incompetent or idiots or corrupt to have signed off on this. The move was ignorant, draconian, unintelligent, irresponsible, misleading, and absolutely disgusting. For the sake of the environment, the people, the economy, good lifestyles, common sense, and just good manners, this idiocy needs to end NOW. Again, I thank you for speaking on the topic.

      one of the most efficient mid size diesel engines in our time...

    It is a very simple logic really, if diesel is so clean, then why did the largest carmaker (at the time) have to resort to cheating in emissions tests? If diesel is so clean, low emission and efficient, they should not have needed to cheat to pass.
    Even if diesel is low on CO2, it is much much higher on NOx, SOx and PM. Funnily, our pucc report does not even count PM and NOx/SOx, only CO2 and CO. So on paper old diesel still looks clean but it may as well be having much higher SOx/NOx and PM. Only real time monitoring like the one in EURO 7 OBD will be able to quantify how much real world emissions are.
    One must also not forget that the emissions of any car is basically based on ARAI mileage figure. So if your actual mileage is lower than ARAI by some x%, then your emissions will be higher by equal % proportion too.
    Now even if you have DPF, filters get clogged, the only suggested solution is to drive at high rpm on highway to rid all the PM stuck in filter, if you are going to vent all that pollution out into the air anyway, whats the use of putting the filter in the first place, thats just delayed pollution which wont show up on PUCC or ARAI testing, but in day to day use will pollute more.

    Mr. Hormazd literally spills the beans regarding govt policies in terms of age of vehicles. Whatever happens in Delhi NCR gets imposed on the whole country. I had to sell my 15 year old petrol i10 (ran 40000) as it had completed the so-called age. My vehicle was perfectly fine. It must be judged by the emission and not by age.

    I wonder why aren’t OEM working on enabling e-turbo in petrol ICE , it will be good for both the worlds. The problem with turbo is its lag and the high RPM where it actually engages. Why not activate the turbo using a battery at lower rpm and as the engine rmp reaches the threshold , the system switches to the existing exhaust driven mode. This way you get efficiency and power

    Indians generally do not oppose environmental regulations or restrictions on diesel vehicles; rather, we are often wary of the corporations and cartels that influence these regulations in favor of specific business interests. I am proud to own two of India’s most renowned diesel engines: the Toyota 1GD 2.8 and the Mitsubishi 4D56. These engines deliver outstanding performance, excellent fuel efficiency, and affordable maintenance, making them ideal for Indian consumers. Also Along with 1.3 Multijet, I think the Fiat 1.6 was the Nation`s Fun to Drive Diesel, if I might forgotten that.
    It’s worth noting that Toyota has done a remarkable job maintaining a legacy for diesel engines in India through its Fortuner models. Starting with the 1KD and 2KD engines, Toyota has consistently developed diesel engines that cater to the needs of Indian drivers. They set a standard that other manufacturers could aspire to.
    Diesel engines, and indeed internal combustion engines as a whole, have a place in automotive history due to their durability and long lifespan. Recognizing and valuing these qualities as part of the automotive landscape is essential.

    Really sensible points in this podcast related to diesel engines. I truly belive Mr. Gadkari should study these points before taking any decision in future. Sometimes I feel Gadkariji is just broken from the reality that people can't afford cars like him. Current government is killing middle-class aspirestion by imposing taxes on each and every thing. Middle-class lost almost everything that is aspirational for it be it home, be it cars, be it gold. It is like pre-libralization era when only few rich people can afford a house, a car and other luxury in their life. Post pandemic inflation rise so rapidly that middle class has left room for savings. Just able to feed the family.

    The problem is that, if you want diesel, then you have lesser options. And DPF is also one concern for people who drive a lot in the city, I have a Kia Carens AT Diesel and after 2.5 years of usage, I got the DPF warning twice, both times I drove it on the highway and it filter got cleared. So, overall it is not a major concern. But, my next purchase may be a hybrid.

    I am a Great fan of diesel engines. My previous two cars were diesel driven vehicles. Vista quadrajet followed by i20 diesel.. Both were very frugal on fuel with great mileage and fun to drive factor. The grunt of the diesel engine with its brute torque was always a pleasure to feel and drive. Changed over to petrol coz of too many regulations in BS6 and discountenance of low displacement diesels.
