Number 1 is confidence. Rock what you put on. To me the difference between fashion and style. Fashion is wearing what everyone else is wearing. Style is wearing what you love and creating you outfit around that with no regard to what everyone else wears. I never wore skinny jeans and have always loved higher rise and wider legs. Love bright fun colors and putting them together in different combos. Do I have a signature look....are you kidding, I have to choose one. Today I will wear the crazy mixed prints and tomorrow the solids in toned down colors. Style is all about collecting over time things you love. Keeping those things and having fun wearing them in different ways. Loved your video!
Wow! That’s so true. I always struggle to be free with my style because it doesn’t fit in a specific aesthetic. We really shouldn't compare to much and just wear what we want. No matter how different it might be from the day befor. 🤍
Jewelry makes you instantly stylish. When I don’t have time to dress up…it’s my favorite fashion hack! It’s so user friendly… basic to glamorous in seconds‼️💎✨
I love that someone else is talking about worn in items looking cooler-I have always felt this way about certain shoes, fwiw I hated the grey goose trend, but some lived in converse or vans-look so much more authentic than brand new, clean ones to me. Also when you said “you can buy fashion but you can’t by style”. YESSS! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
5:40 I stick to Kate Spade (outlet) for my bags/purses. I tend to rotate my bags around so they get even use, unless it’s one for special occasions or the one I got for a bridesmaid gift. Plus I never buy a new, in season bag. I stick to the outlet! They’re less expensive, I can get it after it’s out of season for a fraction of the cost, and the Kate Spade outlet also carries items that the main store doesn’t carry!
sometimes i forget im a purple girl and then there’s days like today where im wearing my purple nightgown wrapped in my purple blanket and laying on my purple couch 🤭
I feel your pain on the frye boots! I wear a women's size 11 and I ended up buying a men's size 9 campus boot on poshmark! It's the exact same style but it's so much easier to find larger sizes. They're usually priced cheaper than women's vintage frye too.
As someone who can't afford new clothes often, all of my clothes are basically lived in. I have a denim that's ripped around the knee naturally because I've worn it a lot. 10/10 better than artificial ripped jeans.
While I dont think theyre /inherently/ stylish, I think tattoos can bump up a 10/10 outfit up to an 11. like seeing a cool girl with a cool outfit and she rolls up her sleeve to reveal a cool tattoo????? its simply over for me
They are honestly my best accessories haha I’m an earings girly, and sometimes necklaces, but other than that i don’t like the feeling of rings or bracelets so -> tattoos are my way to go !
I like very personal or fun jewelry, whether it’s a delicate antique or a modern croissant band with a simple sweater, especially when the sleeves are oversized and covers part of the hand. It’s cozy but intentionally stylish
"You can buy fashion but you can't buy style." This is so true, i'm new to really getting into fashion after hearting my fashion friends saying it's the thing that gives them confidence. (Which we're all in need of) but i need to know where that top is from.. gorgeous!
I guess my signature piece was my cow print jacket, especially because my dog is black and white so we match and people always are complimenting on that and laugh ;) especially grandpas love that ;) I find that I worn it rarely this year though, probably because my obsession with knitting and sweaters started this year (I always loved sweaters as my favourite piece of outfit, but handmade sweaters are just 👌👌👌 and since making them I don't want to wear anything else)
Forest green and mustard yellow are my colors! I got into thrifting for my house and no longer cared for brand new decor, except for Anthropologie and pottery barn, and now I am switching to truly enjoy thrifting my outfits! Xo
Honestly this was such a refreshing take on fashion. I'm a millennial who has always been into fashion but in recent years i kind of felt disconnected from it so i choose safe ways to style myself like a safe colour pallette and predictable outfits. I recently went to Thailand and thrifted a 2000's purse. It had so much character and charm i wish i had picked up a few more cause i don't get bags line these in my country. Secondly i loved that we are steering away from beige i think its time we get some character into our style and break some rules. Thanks for this refreshing take on fashion! Ps i recently mixed metals on my thailand trip just intuitively not knowing its something people do but I'm so glad to hear that people are leaning towards this now❤
I got my Frye campus vintage boots at a flea market, they are my size, and guess what!?? I got them for less than ten dollars, the thrift Gods blessed me that day 😅
I discovered your channel last week and I have been obsessed. I just moved to NYC and I’m trying to find my personal style so your videos are inspiring me a lot 💕
Hi Michaela!! I was scrolling around looking for something, anything that could spark my interest. I loved your vibe!! Can't wait to continue watching and getting inspired. Take care, Darlia
regarding the „interesting volume“: I think in another video you referred to an outfit as „taking up space“ and I wanted to applaud that. Women daring to take up and owning space is stylish to me.
The thing about the glasses tho. It's really hard. I have to wear my glasses all the time, and i'm telling you, having to constantly have big chunky things around your eyes, even just for watching TV or netflix in bed... it's a pain. And when you wear them every single day, people around you don't see it anymore as something stylish, it's just a part of your face. Like it's cool to impress a stranger in the streets, but it's not even satisfactory to yourself because it gets boring. And i'm not rich enough to have a low maintenance alternative for when i'm sick or sleepy or it's exam day.
As a fellow glasses wearer i feel your pain. However a gamechanger for me to make my glasses feel stylish was glasses chains. My friends makes chains with cute beads and colors and gifted me one as a birthday present and it did so much in styling it with outfits and making the glasses feel fun.
@ yes absolutely ! I’ve actually been on the hunt for some glass chains ! They also can be very cheap and so you can have multiple for different outfits ! But my mom says it looks like an old lady’s glasses 🙈
Yep, I was thinking the same thing. I don't see stylish people that often, or at least they don't look unique enough to really catch my eye. Though I was in Japan for most of last year and I saw a decent number of people who looked cool. I thought the guys looked cooler than the girls.
I just fell completely in love with you! Clicked subscribe after 5 minutes :) "Looking hot and mysterious at the airport is one of the top 3 experiences a woman can have" 😂 Blowing you tiny kisses with both my hands--hope you catch them! I find anyone that has a signature style so damn stylish. I have worn a red lip everyday for 20 yrs and live in my jewelry. I feel like even when I'm running around in my trash mom clothes I still have *something* going on. Even if I don't personally identify with someone's stylist choices, I love when I see people making bold choices.
I was excited when I saw this video suggested and then very quickly realized it was not in fact about elements of style, just specific trendy items... Every single one of these things is like HYPER trendy. Even "breaking fashion rules" the examples were pattern mixing and material mixing which are both major online trends recently (like broquette). It's just so disappointing to see one more take that boils down to style=adhering to trends.
“you can buy fashion but you can’t buy style” is my new motto 🙌🏻
It’s an Iris Apfel quote!! 😌🩷

Clothing that fits. Pieces that are thoughtfully tailored, taken in, shortened or lengthened. Combos that are proportioned.

omg totally resonated with what you said about bags that feel too brand new! 100% there with you. I like bags that feel undone or worn in as well.
i think partially because it speaks to the quality of the item if it's held up for that long!

“Worn-in designer bag filled with shit” is so iconic, I love it
I love this because most of my clothing (especially bags) are secondhand, so they come pre-worn!
Your eyeliner is so stunning in this I can’t stop staring at it it’s perfect
omg thank you!! 🫶🏻

Funny, astute, creative, quirky attempt to describe something so ethereal - style. We know it when we see it.

So many good tips!
i live in hamburg/germany and would you like know how often i see someone here, who i think is stylish? one time in 5 years

@@michaeladickson ah I remember you saying that.. Yes, the fleamarkets in summer are very nice :)
