The purpose of the muriatic acid besides cleaning is also to activate the steel to accept the zinc. Do not wire-wheel the bolts after. If you do wire wheel. Place the bolts back into the acid for a few seconds to activate the steel. The Amps is determined by the total surface area you are plating. Too much amps can burn the parts causing a bad finish. Once you get the temp up on the chromate bath that should help. If you use room temp, the part will take longer to coat. Also, pH on your zinc and chromate are important.
Yep this guy knows his shit.. only thing i am in difference about is how the muriatic acid allowing the metal to “accept” the zinc. All the acid is for is to etch the metal. So the zinc will adhere . The wire wheel is just adding dirt to the part.. is like paint.. you etch the metal and clean before paint. Itd be like cleaning the part with alcohol then sanding it after then painting.. the chromium is what is treating the metal and getting it to the right ph .. or something.. dunno.. but i do know the muriatic acid part.. my question is that i always wash my parts in a baking soda water mix to neutralize the acid otherwise the acid will continue to etch the metal.. ive had acid in a tote for washing an engine block and a week after i washed it out and let it sit outside i poured some baking soda water mix in it and shit still bubbled up.. so it soaked into the damn plastic tote.. crazy..
Cool setup. I would make it so you can only plug that hot plate in while the cover is open. Like you have to unplug that burner to close the work bench cover. Could prevent a possible fire some day when you are in the shop late at night and really tired.
I would really try and polish your test parts with a Dremel brass brush bit after your cleaning process before you start to try and zinc coat anything. I would thoroughly wash any part with chlorinated brake cleaner and scrub it very well, then clean it again. Air hose drying out goes a long way as well between steps. You might be contaminating with steps. I really love what you are starting here. I cannot wait for each episode you make lately!!! Thank you
Quick story time about Muriatic acid, had some friends who were pressure washers, used to use the stuff to clean bricks and cement walkways. One day we were all chill'n in the garage, working on our cars and the Homie says what's this? as he pointed to the muriatic acid. They told him it's for cleaning bricks and what not. This dude, took the bottle, and put his nose to the hole and smelled it!!! He literally exhaled burnt nose hair smoke!!!!! 🌬🌬👀😆🤦♂ Always wear your protective gear when dealing with caustic materials!😎
Yea if you ever forget to put the lid on the muriatic acid bucket, youll come out the next morning and literally everything that can will be rusted to shit.. trust me,. It happens.. if you even dont close the top to the jug tight enough that little bit will cause shit to rust.. quick..
Hey man have you thought about a thicker gauge copper wire. Your Electroplating process goes through that, and I think you would benefit from a thicker gauge
Hey Bro this is a great video! Great content and I love it when you do new shit and explain how to do it. I know how it is researching and everyone does it differently and they leave steps out.
You can use the same process to remove rust from parts. You could use a vibrating parts tumbler or a ultrasonic cleaner and save yourself time on the sand blaster. Enjoying the content bro keep it up! Ps you really should suss some better ventilation
On the next episode of Breaking Bad 🤣🤣🤣 Bravis White explains the beginning process of how he is going to credit a good "product"! But he will always stress to us that it's not the products that are illegal but it's the method in which they are mixed hince the respirator safety glasses and gloves for safety of course! ROLMAO 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 love the content bro ✊🏻 keep up the great work
This process is almost surgical, think about it like you wouldnt want your doctor to dig his balls right before putting his fingers in your mouth. Anyrhing you can do to not contaminate the metal after it has went through the acid bath is the best case scenario. Also part size, amperage, and time all play a factor, the smaller/ thinner the part the less time it needs to be in the coating at a higher amperage. Also if you are unsure where you should set it start low, you can always add more and its hard to take it back off. Hit me up if you have any coating questions and I will do my best to get you some answers(if I dont know someone at my work [we make diamond plated tools] will have an answer)
this is deff rad bro but deeezamn i aint know it was that tedious n individualizing of a task to zinc shizz .... maybe i end u all my shizz when its that time lol jk fam but naw on da real i would like to do this with my build as well being i bringing it from forged bored n boosted miata lol that looks like a clapped bucket to body working n trying to make it look the part cuz the 300+hp sleeper is fun but i wanna be able to look at it n do the dbl take at the gas pump ya know, i mean if i ride hoodless it looks the part lol but yeah man i deff wanna get on this level fam ...... much love and respect for your effort bro , peace n love fam keep it rad stay safe and build on ..l8z #DBFamStrong #BuiltNotBought #WhoopWhoop..... ps i wonder if this could be done with an aluminum coating or chromium coating as well 🤔 🤔
This guy has a great video where he goes over that additives you need to get the perfect result.. th-cam.com/video/Bc6n-vZGG-g/w-d-xo.html You need to add a brightener for the shiny finish right out of the solution and some citric acid to remove the lead impurities.

So glad you said something. Just finally watched the vid and was comin here to say something similar. Good lookin out!

Thought his power supply turns on and off all that's plugged in so he just hits the switch when he's done
You should always have an exhaust fan going when working with chemicals like that G.
Sick setup man can't wait to watch the progress on this 🤘
i would keep that acid out side of the garage the fumes makes everyting rust ask me how i know been there done that

Can't wait to see what you do with this setup. Keep kickin ass brother. 🤙

thanks for walking through this. Don't have room to coat any hardware right now, but it is definitely something that I want to do in the future!

RIGHT NOW TIME ⌚ JUST GOT HOME FROM WORK
Try putting your alligator clips directly onto the copper without the screws

Hell yeah brother can wait next update on zinc
Is the positive and negative wire in right orientation
I really learn a lot different things watching this channel 🙏🏽💪🏽💪🏽
those heaters heat very slow keep that in mind especially to 90 degrees it could take a few hours or more even for 1 gallon of liquid.
Masking tape trick was genius
Put a multimeter on everything and check the flow of current
Would be great to get a s10 update and would be cool to see you do that back owning over the new concrete
Will any of the plating companies in the valley sell you the supplies you need.
Hell Yeah Brother 🇺🇸🦅

...is that respirator rated for that?

I have an idea.. hear me out 👂 put 2 elelit hooks under the table and you can hang the pot and the lid underneath.. just an idea
Science! ⚗🔩😎👍
Check out this Scottish dude at RC Restoration. He goes over his process and it seemed pretty straight forward
You should check out ceracoat
Neighbors be like
He's building a meth lab in his garage 😳
Fire!!
Cool setup
Neighbors-yeah I think my neighbor is cooking up meth now😂
Neighbors are going to call the cops saying that you cook meth ! 😂
Presente desde la República Dominicana
your neighbors are absolutely going to tell the town your cooking meth in the garage lol
#DBFAM
Looking like heisenberg
Didn’t know you where Walter White papi.

Notification gang
If the cops come to your house, it’s going to look like you got a meth lab 😱
You should of just invested in a powder coating
Make sure you fully submerge that HEATER or it will break
It’ll be 90° soon 😅

⚗️
Good attempt but that's a super ghetto way the zinc is not going to hold up well
Dope set up almost looking like a meth lab na I just messing with you…
You wonder why your channel is struggling you don't upload when people have the time to watch no weekend uploads smh?
You're doing it all wrong, and need to study up before continuing...🤓
Go for the that blue 🔵💙
Could you coat my shaft with gold??
