A lot of people have asked me how to play the older versions of Terraria, and unfortunately Relogic does not make this task easy. There is no easy way to downgrade your game, unlike games like Minecraft where it's built into their launcher. You will need to use a tool called "TerrariaDepotDownloader". Use this guide here to know how to use it properly, and make sure you backup your Terraria files! - forums.terraria.org/index.php?threads/terrariadepotdownloader-downgrade-to-any-version.107519/ This is NOT a pirate tool, as it requires you to actually own your own copy of Terraria on Steam. This is what I used for the majority of the updates, but it will only go as far back as 1.1.2, as no manifests exist for prior updates from that point. So to get an update such as 1.0, the only way to play them is through backups. You may be able to find backups of these versions across the internet, such as on internetarchive, but I don't condone that as it is technically pirating. Hope this helps some of you :) Don't forgot to subscribe

31:01 Snow biomes were actually introduced in 1.1, but they were rare and bare-bones, so 1.2 fleshed them out and guaranteed that a world would generate with one.
Now that you mention it, I vividly remember constantly making new worlds until I got one with a snow biome back in the day because I really liked the snow aesthetic. Then I was surprised to see actual snow-centric stuff once 1.2 dropped.
I'm pretty sure the snow legion is still in the game (If I remember correctly the summon is dropped by a frost moon enemy), allowing you to get the snow, dropped by all the enemies in the event, that is needed to create an artificial snow biome, letting you fight deerclops on your 1.0 world. Probably not worth the effort but it is possible
Yeah that’s true, the snow globe is a drop from presents on a hardmode world though, which you can only get at Christmas time. So I would’ve had to change the time on my PC to December. But yeah, it is possible, didn’t think of that tbh
@@CJDEATHBOT I just looked into it a little bit more and remembered that the reason why I thought it dropped was because what it actually was, was that in a recent update finishing a frost of pumpkin moon makes the game act like Christmas or Halloween for a single in game day, letting you get the globe that way. Look as great as modern Terraria is I’m always gonna have an affinity for 1.2.4 given that mobile was stuck on that update for like 3 whole years and that was the only version of Terraria that I played for a while lol. Great video bro!
Same, I’m always gonna be nostalgic for that version too, although I got hooked on Terraria a bit before mobile got the 1.2.4 update. I eventually migrated over to PC to experience 1.3, and the newest version of Terraria is stilly my favorite, but again, I still feel a lot of nostalgia for that mobile 1.2.3 version. This is why I really love the fact that they included the Space and Ocean themes from console/mobile and made it the day and night themes of the respective biomes
i remember when terraria came out and my dad showed me, had no idea how much of an impact it would have on me in the future :) still one of my faves to this day, and i love to see its progress!
Man, This video brings back a TON on nostalgia. I first played terraria in 1.1 on the Xbox 360. then my brother got into the game and we play 1.2 on the same console then 1.3 on a Xbox 1 S. I love this and I thank you for all the memories that are now back.
I got in on the original 1.0. It's kind of laughable how much stuff has changed. I also still have my OG world! One thing you didn't mention in what Terraria doesn't have is traps - they didn't exist in 1.0. So, at least mining underground was pretty easy! :)
Some other weird things about early Terraria: - before 1.0.6 hooks didn't have a hotkey, you had to use them from hotbar. There were also only the OG and the Ivy Whip, the gem hooks are 1.2 IIRC. - damage classes were added in 1.1, as you can see in 1.0.4 your Vilethorn just does "8 damage" - before shadow chests the older hell weapons were enemy drops. The Sunfury and Flamelash were dropped by Bone Serpents for example. - while they got rid of block types and generalised the pickaxe to break all blocks, the hammer to break all walls and the axe to break trees in 1.1, using the hammer to break heart crystals and furniture remained for longer, and using it to break Shadow Orbs and Demon Altars remains even today.
Watching you play original first phase Terraria before any updates was such a nostalgic moment for me. I played terraria since it first released so this was such a treat to watch.
for a newer player like me, it's cool to see how the game I came to only about a year ago started out in its humble beginnings. For example, some weapons which are considered bad weapons now were actually top tier in older versions of the game because of less content and no difficulties above classic mode, while other weapons were great back then but still hold up as a great weapon even years later when the game has changed so dramatically. In a way, it's like being given a history lesson.
31:00 surprisingly enough, they were added in 1.1.1 with the frost legion, they were just shockingly rare outside of Christmas time and completely useless.
Huh, well I've never had much trouble with the Solar Pillar after my first few battles against it. Staying close to the ground when you don't want to fight Crawtipedes is the first thing, but just as long as I kept attacking everything and not letting anything get close to me, I was fine. For me, the Nebula Pillar was probably the hardest.
I first played Terraria in December 2011. Not for long tbh, but revisited in 1.4. Quite a masterpiece I grabbed in early development. I subscribed, let's see what challenges you can achieve.
I managed to get back into terraria in 1.4 a few years back, and watching this makes me remember why i play the game as if the QOL changes dont exist sometimes lmao
I love how this video isn't just a challenge video but is also a mirror looking back at the history of the game and how one small increment over many many updates shaped Terraria to be what we know today. Absolutely loving this.
every time you call something from v1.0 "old" i can feel a new hair turning grey 😂 this is basically the only version i know and one of the games i grew up on, feels so strange yet familiar to finally see gameplay of this first version after soooo many years! ❤
The furthest back I can remember is terraria on the 3ds. I never understood why enemies dropped a key mold instead of the key. I'm glad in later updates they changed that. I also remember the fact that you needed all the emblems to make the avenger emblem. Another thing I'm glad they changed. I love how much attention and patience the developers and the players had for this game :)
This is my first time watching your channel and I won't lie the moon lord fight probably had me the most confused I've ever been it was definitely unexpected
I played on 3DS back in the day. You could find draxes in shadow chests pre-hardmode, biome mimics didn't exist, and opening your inventory would fill the whole screen, blinding you, but you would still take damage from enemies 😭
this is a really cool video! i first played terraria a ton sometime before the 1.2 update and seeing the old sun graphic brought me back lol. i took a long hiatus from the game after that and returning to it in its 1.4 state is WILD!
This video made me way more grateful for 1.4.4 lol. Really enjoyed this one. Idk how you found truffle worms without expanding your glowing mushroom biome tho, i wish i could have the same luck
I put a water candle down and just went in and out of their spawn area until they appeared. It took a while for each one but not as long as it has in the past so I’m not sure, maybe I got lucky
I started with 1.0.4 and my brain still classifies things like the infinite timer on summons, the Hell backdrop etc as "those new additions". Human brains are weird.
Just discovered your channel. Solid content. I have been doing a semi challenge where I go full summoner using only Abigail (and whips). Pretty fun partly because I adore Don't Starve so much.
I liked the idea the commentary is engaging and entertaining. But what I liked most about this video is the nostalgia as a player who started whit 1.1 version it was a very big summery of my past 10+ gaming years whit terraria. I want to thank you for this comforting feeling you caused. You don't really know how much it means to me!
i remember back when 1.3 came out i watched the trailer and got recommended a video of Red and Blue playing through 1.0 before the game released. pretty sure it's still on the terraria channel to this day, and it's super cool to see the vast progress that was made between then and now. plus it's fun to watch devs play their own games (especially if they're bad at it lol). Just neat to get the creator's perspective on the thing, ya know?
I remember back when I was a kid as a mobile player when 1.3 came out and I later was allowed to buy it on my PC I was so shocked by the new content from 1.2 to 1.3. It was such a massive feeling as I've been wanting to get the PC version for a long time at that point. Good times
honestly, using purification powder to make it so you have to beat a boss before getting shadow orbs/crimson hearts... ...until the world gen inevitably breaks and spawns them outside the corruption/crimson hearts
Theres is no way you don't hit your end of the year sub goal! I started watching you a couple days ago starting with you all achievement vids and now im hooked. The quality of you videos deserves so much more attention and praise. Keep it up man❤
I used steam depots, there are some pages out there that go over how you can do it, but the TerrariaDepotDownloder tool is your best friend for it. But for versions before 1.1 you need backups
I started playing at 1.2, and then stopped at 1.3.4 and came back for labour of love. I'm amazed by how much I've missed just from that, it's actually bananas to look at how far the game has come!
Says gotten better in the video, but I'd honestly like some of the more challenging facts of Terraria to still be around that aren't anymore. Like making life regeneration matter or purification powder matter more to name a couple. Now it's all useless and taken for granted. With the exception of the achievement for purging the evil using purification powder.
If you ever revisit this, I suggest you showcase the tricks on each version, for example: On 1.1 they created the gun FFF and forgot to nerf it, so you can shoot without bullets or On 1.3 they added boss ZZZ but it was almost impossible to beat because of X (later fixed), but you can cheese it with Y. or on 1.23 there was a bug where you could use guns with swords. --- all above are not real examples of course. And you should use all those strange things or showcase before the devs fixed/patched. It is nice to see the difference in visuals, but I imagine knowing that some weapon was OP and seeing you use it, would be more fun.
You could have fought deerclops in that world. Naughty present with silk and ectoplasm, beat a high wave, enabling Christmas on the world, get presents, get a Snow Globe, and farm snow from the snowmen. Make an artificial snow biome, get the flinx fur, make the spawner, beat deerclops.
dang all the quality of life improvements you went over at the start, thinking about it, I don't think I've ever played terraria after all those things were added. it's been a very long time since I've played it. auto opening doors and walking up blocks goes crazy I gotta try modern terraria
I can't remember whether it was 1.0 or a bit later, but snow biomes existed prior to 1.2. The twist is that rather than spawning normally in any old world, they had a low (i think like 1/6 chance) of spawning in at spawn instead. There also wasn't really anything interesting about them other than the fact that they were made of snow.
Your Eater of Worlds experience reminds me of exactly what happened when I first fought the Brain of Cthulhu right when 1.2 dropped. Funny how history repeats there
5:13 that is normal, I remember when the surface jungle was added. I started somewhere after V1, but before hardmode was added. I remember when it came out and my friend and I had to abandon our house and rebuild in Hell because the corruption and hallow spread so much faster and took over our whole surface. We were very proud of our angel/demon wings and magic harp/megashark.
Frankensteins still drop Broken Hero Swords, it’s just a 0.04% chance now Edit: It’s 0.4%, not 0.04%. And the can also drop from Swamp Things with the same chance.

- damage classes were added in 1.1, as you can see in 1.0.4 your Vilethorn just does "8 damage"
- before shadow chests the older hell weapons were enemy drops.
In a way, it's like being given a history lesson.
shout out to the devs for sticking with this game and working with fans to make it into the perfectly balanced masterpiece it is today
For me, the Nebula Pillar was probably the hardest.
somewhere in the world there's a queen slime fan absolutely malding
queen slime is crying rn
I
NOOOO MY GIRLIE 😭
Why😢
I first played Terraria in December 2011. Not for long tbh, but revisited in 1.4. Quite a masterpiece I grabbed in early development. I subscribed, let's see what challenges you can achieve.
“So old it came out in 2011”… ouch
Yeah.. I felt that too lmao
I managed to get back into terraria in 1.4 a few years back, and watching this makes me remember why i play the game as if the QOL changes dont exist sometimes lmao
Such a beautifully edited video, you deserve at least 100k subs
Thank you so much!
I wasn’t expecting Saul goodmoon to pull up 💀💀
I started playing in 1.1, feels nostalgic seeing these old versions.
Death bot: it's crazy how you can't use item in your inventory in this update
Console users: having to wait years before they can do that
This video made me way more grateful for 1.4.4 lol.
Your choice of music is my favorite part of your videos. Genuine nostalgia.
Personally I started playing in 2016 but seeing all of the previous version was something beautiful to be quite honest.
I remember when me and my brothers used to play terraria on family phone, I still remember the old inventory..
you are severely underrated my man, this was a huge nostalgia trip
Naked gummy person: Ok that’s alright
Same gummy person with slightly sexy clothes: GOD DAMN
?
I liked the idea the commentary is engaging and entertaining.
But what I liked most about this video is the nostalgia as a player who started whit 1.1 version it was a very big summery of my past 10+ gaming years whit terraria.
I want to thank you for this comforting feeling you caused. You don't really know how much it means to me!
Thank you for saying that, it makes me so happy that I can have an impact on people through my content! :')
It would make sense that the MAGIC mirror would use mana to teleport you back to spawn
Really good video! I started playing Terraria in 1.3, so it is cool to see the older versions
i remember back when 1.3 came out i watched the trailer and got recommended a video of Red and Blue playing through 1.0 before the game released.
pretty sure it's still on the terraria channel to this day, and it's super cool to see the vast progress that was made between then and now.
plus it's fun to watch devs play their own games (especially if they're bad at it lol). Just neat to get the creator's perspective on the thing, ya know?
hey i just witnessed this upload. perfect for eating now
ok.
Alright.

I remember back when I was a kid as a mobile player when 1.3 came out and I later was allowed to buy it on my PC I was so shocked by the new content from 1.2 to 1.3. It was such a massive feeling as I've been wanting to get the PC version for a long time at that point. Good times

Rip queen slime, not gone but forgotten.
honestly, using purification powder to make it so you have to beat a boss before getting shadow orbs/crimson hearts...
...until the world gen inevitably breaks and spawns them outside the corruption/crimson hearts
You can get through ebonstone with explosives on 1.0 but needs to be dynamite
The molds and ocram were my childhood. I used to have those in my inventory :sob:
easily the best terraria youtuber. keep up the great content
Thank you❤️
I used to play the legacy version on the ps3, this explains so much, like the king slime spawn which was also on ps4.
Always enjoy these challenge vids 💥
Wow, this made me realize how old the legacy edition of Terraria on the PS3 is 😭
Just like Minecraft.
Crazy to see how much this game has changed over 12 years
1:10 Because it was and it still is, it has a development team but a small one.
Yeah I know, what I meant is that it doesn’t FEEL like an indie game anymore, even though it is. Considering how polished it is
Theres is no way you don't hit your end of the year sub goal! I started watching you a couple days ago starting with you all achievement vids and now im hooked. The quality of you videos deserves so much more attention and praise. Keep it up man❤
Played it when it first came out on mobile, remember spending forever to get a holy hand grenade just to blow a giant hole In the ground
How do you play the old versions? This has had me stumped for a while.
Great vid btw really cool concept.
I also wonder this, I need my 1.1 world back lol
I used steam depots, there are some pages out there that go over how you can do it, but the TerrariaDepotDownloder tool is your best friend for it. But for versions before 1.1 you need backups
as someone who's been with the game since launch week , it's so so cool to see a condensed version of how the game has progressed :D so much nostalgia
Would of been cool if you fought ocram
I velieve he was console only
As well as 3ds and old mobile he’s not really fightable anymore same with Lepus and Turkor
@@mattygee6852 and mobi-
@@user-đæþñœçəüž yeah

man i used to play 1.2 all the time because I didn't have a PC or anything to play the newer versions, only me and my friends and my PS3
I started playing at 1.2, and then stopped at 1.3.4 and came back for labour of love. I'm amazed by how much I've missed just from that, it's actually bananas to look at how far the game has come!
3:02 "You can see the old sprite"
**Proceeds to stand DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF SAID SPRITE**
3:09
also 3:13
Perfect timing 👌
Says gotten better in the video, but I'd honestly like some of the more challenging facts of Terraria to still be around that aren't anymore.
Like making life regeneration matter or purification powder matter more to name a couple. Now it's all useless and taken for granted. With the exception of the achievement for purging the evil using purification powder.
Nice vid
If you ever revisit this, I suggest you showcase the tricks on each version, for example:
On 1.1 they created the gun FFF and forgot to nerf it, so you can shoot without bullets
or
On 1.3 they added boss ZZZ but it was almost impossible to beat because of X (later fixed), but you can cheese it with Y.
or
on 1.23 there was a bug where you could use guns with swords.
---
all above are not real examples of course.
It’s pretty nostalgia to see all the previous updates upgraded little by little to what it had becomes today ngl
10:34 this out of context sounds very suspicious
You explaining how stuff used to work pre1.3 is nostalgic af
That skeleton with the blue jacket was sans.
dang all the quality of life improvements you went over at the start, thinking about it, I don't think I've ever played terraria after all those things were added. it's been a very long time since I've played it. auto opening doors and walking up blocks goes crazy I gotta try modern terraria
MANA DOESNT COST COST 10 FALLEN STARS NOW EITHER?
Im going to cry when the adventure has complete just like ash catchum for pala town😭 the og's know what i mean
I remember playing one of the earlier versions thanks to you. It brought back so much.
Frankensteins still drop Broken Hero Swords, it’s just a 0.04% chance now
Edit: It’s 0.4%, not 0.04%. And the can also drop from Swamp Things with the same chance.
You fighting the Moonlord was complete *CHICANARY!* You orchestrated it! CJ!
"almost over now" is the biggest laugh of this video. it's still being updated :)
As someone who used to play Terraria on Xbox 360, this brought back memories. Many memories.
Ahhh, the nostalgia of Terraria 1.0. I don't miss it. Been with this game for the whole journey and boy I really would not go back.
