- On today's episode of the Mini build we change out the downpipe in my Mini. Installing the Racing Dynamics Catless Downpipe had a few issues, but at the end of the day we got the decat installed in about 4 hours.
Videos I used to help me:
Video 1: • MILLTEK Downpipe/Decat...
Video 2: • MINI COOPER S F56/F55 ...

Canon 5D Mark IV

Install looked like a pain, but that sound was worth it. Good video, keep the mini mods coming!
I put a intake hard pipe on mine and it truly is a mess, I didn’t take off the windshield wipers and other parts and it literally took a while, I can’t imagine installing the downpipe it’s a process
It was definitely a pain! Took me a few hours to do but it was 100% worth it in the end. Especially with the tune soon!
That sounds gnarly! Thanks for giving me good (bad) ideas for my S lol! How's the sound while highway cruising? Any drone? Awesome video!
I would be happy if you reply. Hello, I own a 2014 Cooper S in Japan. Thank you for your always fun videos. I use them as reference. I have replaced the muffler with a straight down pipe, but did you tune the ECU in any way at this time? When I changed the muffler to a straight one in the past, the power dropped a lot. I'm a little scared and hesitant to replace it with a straight down pipe. I would like to know the detailed vehicle specifications at this time. Sorry if I'm using wrong English.
I tuned my ECU after this, and it helped. Removing the downpipe removes restriction and then engine needs help compensating for that
Thank you for your reply. I see, after the replacement, the ECU needs to be tuned. I don't have much money, so it looks like it will be a sub-computer. I hope it works out.
WD40 the exhaust hangars, works every time
After messing with my rubbers for 5 mins I got the wd....it slid on. Now I read these comments as I am taking a break from my install. Just gotta hook up my intake and all the stuff above the heatshield.
Does everyone in your family have a MINI? That's awesome.
How did you actually manage to get the cat out? Been trying for hours and I can’t get it out still
Your dad's about as gangsta OG gangsta level over 9000 as mine... learn everything you can from that man my dude cuz they got every trick in the book that will save you all the stress and agro angry tool throwing that will arise later 😆 I would have went for the air drill and rethread the thing later and if that was a no go the pin head for the oxy acetylene would been the melted messy last chance pull for it 😆 get her red hot mushy and bend the tip on a old flat head screwdriverand fuse the thing let it cool and twist it out hahaha but OG with a hammer and the reform was finessed for the win, nice, killer laugh of a vod with a good bit of helpful how to added keep it up dude your good at the content creation side of it and the car looks good i love my 2018 jcw 2 door. They are fun fun cars the mini cooper's are
do you experience smell in the car?
You should open your valve and then unplug the Bluetooth system so it stays open. 😏
If I wasn’t in a neighborhood I 100% would. It sound so good with valve open, but it’s too loud for my neighbors
i cannot seem to remove the plastic below the wipers!
hi nice video
i have one question : do you remapping the ecu after instal the downpipe ? you don't have a default code whit the sensor ?
thank you for your futur reply
Yes I remapped the ecu, and the re-map cleared the check engine light
@@AidenOwen thank you for your reply ✌👍
Sounds gnarly. May have to do that to my f55. I have a borla s type axelback and a resonator delete so maybe I'd shoot some flames haha
If you want to see what it takes to shoot flames go check out my other video on it! It's awesome if I do say so myself!
Love the videos, just found you today and have watched like 8+ vids. I own a modified F56 myself and you seem to be just ahead of me (downpipe soon to come). I had the same reaction you did when first getting the JCW Pro Exhaust + Tune. I'm looking into cosmetic mods now (ie. quick release steering wheel, Mini LCD LHD Display, de-chrome interior (already did my exterior) and i didn't even CONSIDER painting some of my engine bay, def to complete that soon. Also do you still run your underglow? if yes how is it? If no, what made you decide against it? Keep making content as you go, so far: KILLER.
Thank you so much for the support!
Cosmetic mods are definitely next for me now that I’ve got a decent amount of power, I’m just deciding on if I’d rather do exterior or interior cosmetics.
As for the underglow, yes I do still run it, however the company has been giving me issues with their support. Water got into a few of the strips and shorted some of the leds, and it should be covered by their warranty, but so far It’s been 3 months and I haven’t heard a word back about if I’m covered or not.
Hey good video, what size was that o2 Socket?
did you find out what size the o2 sensor is
I did yes @@towersofhanoi
@@rrud59 what size was it
@@towersofhanoi 22mm
Did u have to tune your mini?
what exhaust do you have? the jcw pro? thats the only one i know that can open and close valves and its like 2k
Remus also do a valved exhaust. Same with cobra.
The one in this video tho is the jcw pro exhaust
Love the video I just bought the same Downpipe and had a quick question if you see this. It seems like the adapter for the new pipe isn’t fitting well onto the second cat. Did you have this same problem? If so did you just force it down with the clamp?
Yeah I had that exact issue. I just clamped it as hard as I could and then let it heat cycle a few times (moderately hard driving) and then cranked it down again after about 3 weeks
@@AidenOwen oh okay cool hopefully it goes on easy so I can make it to work tomorrow night😅😂Thank you very much for the help.
Also did you get a check engine light? What tune will you be getting??
I did get a check engine light, but it might be tuned out. Still working with the company on if they can do that or not.
I got a Bytetronik tune!
@@AidenOwen how do you feel the car now? Is it much much faster? What numbers do you think we’re looking at at the dyno
@@betoest93 I haven’t gotten the tune yet. The ECU is off at Bytetronik now getting unlocked so I can tune it. According to their dyno they were able to get 286whp, so if I can break 230whp on the one I used I’ll be happy. I’ll get it tested at a better location at some point in the future
But with just the downpipe the down low torque is noticeably improved, as is turbo spool time. There’s almost no lag whatsoever now
@@AidenOwen that’s really dope! I’m looking forward to it once you get it down and dyno’d. Essentially would that be all for performance or are other things on your list? What about aesthetics, are you dropping it?
@@betoest93 For engine power that’s all for now. But I’ve got other stuff I want to do, including lowering it
Going with the downpipe you have in this video, aswell as jcw tuning kit, any problems with the downpipe? Diffuser get burnt or anything I rlly don’t wanna have to get a new diffuser
No issues at all with about 2500 miles so far. There was a little bit of rattling but I think that had to do with the way I installed the downpipe. It went away when I installed a catless mid-pipe. There's also a lot more soot on the exhaust, which is to be expected
@@AidenOwen thanks for the fast reply, it’s just stressing me out, this is my first real “sports car” and I don’t wanna make it unreliable as it is my daily driver, keeping it pretty simple
@@AidenOwen also another quick add on , how much louder are the cold starts with valves closed, I also live in a crowded neighborhood
Reliability wise the current gen mini is pretty rock solid. I have a friend with 100k miles on his, 50k of it stage 2.
With the valve closed on cold start it’s about as loud as if you were starting with the valve open on the stock cat, but after about 10-15 seconds it quiets down significantly
Will the dp being catless affect the car’s motor in the long run??
It shouldn’t since this is after the engine. With the tune it should all be good
Did you have to install a waste gate or blow off valve after installing the catless downpipe?
It has a wastegate from the factory!
Thanx!!!
Also what tune are you using?
How did you get the windshield wipers off? I’m installing an intake pipe on my f56 and I need to take all that plastic off too
I undid the bolt and then pulled on the base of the wiper while tapping with a hammer to loosen them. It took a couple minutes to get it just right for them to come off
Where did you get your parts
did you put heat shield back or not?
I did
does it resonate?
Not very bad, but there is some drone on the highway
Sports Nugget
this only a downpipe ? stock everything else ? exhaust ?
Downpipe and the JCW valve exhaust. I’ve got another video coming soon where I’m replacing the mid-pipe with a test pipe
@@AidenOwen do you have a ECU tune ?
@@marc974 Yep. That video is also coming soon!
@@AidenOwen looking forward to that, I have a countryman S and wanted to do the downpipe + tune !
What in your opinion do you need to do before a stage 1 tune? Ive been told Downpipe, is that all?
Did you get the check engine light when you first installed the downpipe?
Yep. It came on after about 30 minutes of driving. The tune took care of it though
Hace u Installed any tune?
I got the car tuned with Bytetronik and absolutely love it
i really wish you weren't so shaky with this video lol
you drive the car up the ramps ,, not jack the car up and try to fit them,,,
I tried that but the bumper was rubbing. These are truck ramps that we got at harbor freight
I did the same Racing Dynamics downpipe on my 2014 F56 and it wasnt too bad to do haha. I just had to put spacers on my O2 sensors to keep the CEL from coming on and to take it apart took me like 10 minutes yesterday haha. If you want to see my Mini my instagram is Andrew.F56
After doing it once I can definitely say its easier the second time around to do. O2 spacers probably would've helped me a lot
