Hey guys i like your report but i am from Mindanao. Jolo is pronounce as Ho-lo thank you ☺️☺️☺️. I don’t think there will be union any time soon since our culture is not the same and i need to be honest we don’t have the same language. I like the idea of ASEAN as long it’s only about work and travel. No government union.

      2) Linguahe Español (Spanish)-same reasons like Malay
      Third languages: (Optional)

@HoiNam Superior Southern Chinese Your China, I presume the People's Republic of China, existed in 1949. The Philippines has been around since 1901. You're comparing your ancient empire to new nations which makes totally no sense because:
      1. They aren't the same.
      2. It's a completely baseless argument because ancient empires have no legal basis on territorial ownership. (If it did then China should belong to Mongolia ;)
In reality, modern nations agreed on the framework of the UN Law on the Seas as the basis of who owns what territory. While ASEAN countries have overlapping claims on some parts South China Sea, China's claim are completely unreasonable and have no legal basis whatsoever.
Believe what you want, good sir, but you are being brainwashed if you truly believe that China owns the entire SCS. Might as well just admit that China controls it through brute force, bully tactics, and a lack of respect for other country's sovereignty; atleast then you'd be telling the truth.

he fails to mention that neither of the ruling class in the philippines and indonesia are actually malays in the philippines are the tagalogs and in indonesia its the javanese that actually controll the country malays are minority that inhibit sumtra, coastal borneo, southern mindanao and the bisaya people which were decendants of the srivijaya empire which was a malay empire. Maphilindo is nothing more that an effort to keep actual malays from gaining power to keep them from creating seperatist movement all over indonesia and philippines or worse a new major power in south east asia. Malaysia however is rulled by actual malays which is why indonesia and philippines dont agree with the formation of malaysia fearing it might lay claim to all malay populated areas and support separatist movement like one that has already happen in mindanao, southern philippines

Duterte is mestiso in heritage but he is a pure blooded Filipino and Malay at heart.
You have to go past the physical, dig deeper. There was never a Filipino president aside from Marcos and probably Macapagal who share the same quality. There was a reason Marcos was ousted by the oligarchs, or the REAL meztisos, he wasn't among them. Same treatment Duterte is getting from them today. It's not coincidence, but a pattern.
Duterte family rules Davao, but never by force but because Davao residents love them. The proof is in the pudding. Duterte transformed Davao from slum and chaos into a progressive first class city. He is slowly doing the same to the entire Philippines, not just physically but transforming the Filipino mindset as well, instilling pride and nationalism.
Filipinos used to worship the west to their detriment sometimes, not anymore. Duterte has awakened them by exposing the real picture, something no president has done in the past.

As an Indonesian native, this content is especially interesting! Indonesian school's history curriculum didn't really talk much about the development of Maphilindo dynamics over the course of history, choosing to focus more on Indonesia-Malaysia relations and ASEAN as a whole. So this really piqued my interest, especially regarding Indonesia-Phillipines relations.
The notion of these three countries banding together to form a superstate is also intriguing, in a sense that it's quite tempting but very headache-inducing to be attempted in the current era, LOL. Thank you!

@Kazumaf Tagalog and Malay is nothing like Portuguese and Spanish. There is some degree of mutual intelligibility between Spanish and Portuguese, I've seen my friends from Brazil (Portuguese speakers) and those from Costa Rica, Venezuela and Colombia (Spanish speakers) speak to each other in their respective Portuguese and Spanish languages.
But there is practically no mutual intelligibility at all between Malay and Tagalog. Malay/Indonesian speakers cannot speak to Tagalog in in other's respective language. I am a Malay speaker from Malaysia, native Malay speaker. I don't understand a thing when I hear Filipinos speak Tagalog although I could discern some Malay words in their language, but I don't understand a thing.
Malay is also a "bahasa" (using your own word), officially it is called BAHASA MELAYU while Indonesian is officially called BAHASA INDONESIA (bahasa in Malay/Indonesia simply means "language"). Therefore both Malay and Indonesian are "bahasa", we understand each other between 80-90% in STANDARD form, because both are standard registers of the same language, the Malay language (bahasa Melayu).

The Philippines used to be like Indonesia too sociopolitically and linguistically, back when the islands were in the mandalas (spheres of influence) of the Srivijaya Kingdom, Brunei Kingdom, and Bruneian Sultanate. These are two separate periods, back when the Malays were Hindus/Buddhists and after they became Muslims.
Many of the "Filipinos" back then spoke Malay (i.e. the royals, merchants, literati, and clergy, at least) and were very much Malayised (e.g. your royals dressed like the Malay royals, and they married each other and swore fealty to each other). The result of this Malayisation is still very evident at present in the "Bangsamoros", who live in Sulu and all over Minadanao. They never were as Hispanicised as other Filipinos. Did you know that much of their literature is in the Malay language, written in the Jawi script?

As a Filipino, uniting the Malay states it only benefits much to Malaysia and Indonesia. The strong influence of religion (Islam) in Indonesia and Malaysian government is one of the major hindrances the Philippines couldn't easily integrate to the larger Malayan majority. Religion in the Philippines as a Christian country is totally detached and separate from state.

Other examples, the Indian ocean - location near India, Arab sea - location near Arab. So, it's totally not logical to simply 'claim' The Open Seas as anybody's!... 😄

And we don't want to change the way of living there, the people in Sabah can still live in a way they used to be. We don't have any intentions in taking their peaceful living in there. We just want to unite our people and get what really belongs to us. The North Borneo or known as Sabah was a gift of the Sultan of Brunei to the Sultan of Sulu which is now a region and part of a sovereign territory of the Philippines. That's why we maintains our strong territorial claims over Sabah based on the 1878 "Lease treaty" and also based on the historical claims.
