I have a lil' D4D with a D4E Hyster. Took it on a trade. Guy tells me the winch works but no brake. As an old seasoned Franklin Skidder winch mechanic (all the way up to the 2nd one that they called a 38, which was their last one they made that was electronic over hydraulic control) I figured brake band problems. BTW those last Franklin winches had clutch and steel brakes, they were actually great logging winches. But they are fast too, so you will eventually ring a main shaft or hull a ring and pinion and they are becoming unobtanium. Back to the Hyster. I pull side cover and it looks like the brake band just needs adjusted and cleaned. But when I start that process I notice the drum spins on the shaft. Stripped splines. You wouldn't happen to have any of these parts out there would you? Im in North Carolina so its probably a lost cause. I will probably just weld them together slowly taking care with wet towels in behind so I don't burn out the seal, because im not spending 2 or 3 thousand to fix a 5 thousand dollar dozer.
Great video Dan! I was just discussing these things with my Marketing Guy this morning. 'Rescue Winch'... new term for me.
