Nathan Jones I've done a few 0-60ish shots before...one thing though is that most of the cars I drive have very few miles on them, and haven't been sufficiently broken in yet, so I try not to flog them too much. Thanks for watching! -Greg
Just bought one... SLT Crew Cab all options... Has a healthy sticker price, but....LOVE THIS TRUCK!!! Head and Shoulders above all the others out there...
I just wanna say you are by far the best reviewer I have seen online to date. Your reviews are detailed, "real", and interesting. Lol, I guess the reason I like 'em is because we have similar opinions on the industry trends and tastes. Thumbs up!
Looking into purchasing this truck. The dealer is asking for $22,500. Inside and out in excellent condition and has 105,200 miles on it. Is it worth the price asked?
I'm not exactly sure on that. I've got to assume that you can get a bench with a fold down armrest, but I didn't see any at the dealer. Good question. -Greg
I disagree, GM's had cylinder deactivation for years, its no different than others claiming Ford's EcoBoost is a durability nightmare. Yes, the Tundra will likely prove very reliable, buts its fuel economy is not as good. I'm impressed with what GM has done here. I'm also glad GM is doing well in the market place and 1000's of automotive related jobs still exist. thanks for watching and chiming in, I appreciate it! -Greg
Thanks! I'm just doing my thing. This being a side gig from my full time job (teacher, and school just started!) and doing all of the shooting, hosting and editing myself, they take awhile. I'm going to try and keep on it as best as I can! thanks again. -Greg
The All Terrain name is definitely a bit misleading, but this truck is not meant to be a Raptor competitor. (although there are rumors that GM is working on one) thanks for watching. -Greg
Thanks so much, I really appreciate you noticing. While I can't compete with MotorTrend, Drive or other high dollar media groups, I'm trying at least to make sure I have a level of quality that does the vehicles I drive justice. Thanks a lot! -Greg
dude, i love ur reviews!!! i just wish u would do more! right now this is the best most in depth review of the 2014 sierra on all of youtube...i have seen all of them. i wish u would review a 2014 silverado too (if they send u one of course...). :-D
Cheers from Socorro. I'm glad they kept the Pushrod engine design. From an engineering standpoint, it's a really solid design. My only gripe is that they don't offer the 6.2 liter v8 in the regular cab, short bed configuration.
Great review Greg! Really appreciate you taking the time to do this review. My decision just became more difficult. I was essentially sold on buying a new RAM 1500 Sport, but now I see I need to give this machine a test drive first. Thanks again!
The issue with the EcoBoost is well documented. There's a good write up on it in the f150ecoboost forum. There's also a class action suit out of Ohio, and the NHTSA has an ongoing investigation of the issues around acceleration problems. Ford has also issued 3 TSB's for issues related to intermittent stumble/misfire on acceleration from highway cruise in humid or damp conditions.
Here are its issues: 1: Terrible gear ratios 2: cylinder deactivation isn't proven to be worth much on a truck so far 3: Power on their main v8 is still below its competitors I did test drive one for myself and it does have a nice quiet interior, handles better and I liked the addition of the electric power steering but the one I drove was making some weird engine sounds. Interior was very nice though and I hope they make a 6.2l with 3.73 gearing option because I'd buy it.
What? No, re read the timeline I posted. My first Z71 was deemed "faulty" by GM, which to their credit they replaced. After experiencing more suspension problems on my 2nd Z71 at around the 30k-40k mark, I made the personal decision to explore my options. I did not like the RAM, opted for the Ford FX4, then Ford redesigned their line in 2011. Got the Ecoboost for the wife and the 5.7 Tundra for myself. "FYI" I have had no issues since leaving the GM consumer club.
Great review. Great truck. A few clues gave it away that truck is a SLE A/T. Diffidently a truck to drool about, but the SLT A/T or even the SLT A/T PLUS are even more amazing. GM perfected this one !!!
Very good review. I'm 6'3" and I can still do what you did and sit "behind" myself in the back seat and still have a lot of room. I owned a '12 and it was impossible in that truck. They have an SLT+ package for the all-terrain that is much more premium without that much more of a price tag too. Mine was only around 500 bucks more than the one you were driving and the only thing that one had that mine didn't was navigation in the Intellilink. I have plenty more than that truck though : D
Very insightful review. I bought this exact truck (in black) based partly upon your review. I have been driving mine for 3 months and love it. Many thanks for helping my research into buying the right truck. In addition to the non auto-up on all windows here are my 2 cents not mentioned that might be worth looking at on your next review. Pros: you mentioned them all except the bluetooth connectivity is excellent and front/rear parking sensors are exceptionally accurate. Cons: -the climate control functions like this: 3/4 power blast until you are freezing, then a period of comfort, then the cabin heats up to be almost uncomfortable, followed by another 3/4 blast...rinse, repeat -Navigation routing software is terrible. It will get you there, but almost never the most efficient way. -The computer is slow. Changing audio inputs is painfully slow as is navigation re-routing. Thanks again for the insight into this great truck.
Thanks, I appreciate it. Frankly, they're both great trucks. I was not able to drive the new V6 in the GMC, but it would be interesting to compare that to the 3.7-8speed combo I drove in a Ram 1500 earlier this year. (jump over to my channel to find that video) thanks for watching. -Greg
Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. Not sure where your numbers came from, but as you said, the loan was paid back with interest. In addition, hundreds of thousands of GM employee jobs and employees that depend on GM were saved and those folks are earning decent wages and paying taxes. They're also supporting small businesses throughout the country with those wages they are earning because of the bailout. That's a good thing for the economy and small businesses across the country.
Nice truck and great review. I traded in my 2011 Mercedes-Benz C300 AND 2012 Ram 1500 Express on almost this exact truck. Mine is an SLE with All-Terrain package in dark red with the 5.3 and 3.43 gears. On good pavement it is just as smooth as the Mercedes, not to mention quieter. Ram's coil spring rear suspension is smoother, but not a lot. Sadly, exactly two weeks after purchase I was stopped at a red light and some a-hole in a lifter Hummer H2 rear-ended me causing $7000 in body damage. Fortunately the frame wasn't bent, but the entire bed is being replaced. Hope its the same after repair as before collision.
I'll also chime in that I think the small/midsize segment has really fallen apart. If GM could truly bring a competitive/world class Colorado/Canyon to market, I think it would sell really well. That being said, I wouldn't expect the pricing to be that much more affordable than the full size segment! -Greg
Curious how you found the transmission feel? Any hesitation in mid gear quick acceleration? Found the Canyon to take a second or so to realize i've floored it only to have basic acceleration with very minimal torque. The dropped cylinder tech makes me wonder if it's too slow to re-engage back into full V8 at times. Would love to hear owner's experiences. I've just bought a Tundra and wondering if I made the wrong choice...?
2 questions: 1. Would you recommend this truck? Over say a 14 F-150? and If you were me, would you personally waited to buy the new 15 F-150? Im torn in the middle on this decision
yikes, you got me there! I'm not in a position to buy a new truck so I have a hard time answering this for people. Frankly, I think Ford should be rewarded for the work they're putting into weight reduction on the 2015 F150, takes some guts. As a cyclist we're always looking for weight reduction as it increases efficiency, with cars continually getting heavier with every iteration, that's refreshing. Cheers! -Greg
GM's new line was just released. The prior lineup was behind in sales and ratings due to poor performances and mechanics. (?) My Z71's, a 2001 and 2004, both had major issues. The 2001 had continuous transmission problems and the sway bar snapped randomly. Eventually the factory labeled it faulty and gave me the 2004. After dealing with suspension problems with the 2004, I traded for a F150 FX4. The FX4 ran great, but then the 2011's came. Got that and a 2012 Tundra 5.7. Both are amazing trucks.
I love my 14 sierra but i think GM was very conservative on the transmission. I honestly think you really need a tune to wake the 5.3L up. There are guys with 5.5s 0-60 runs with a tune, CAI, and exhaust. I really hate the delay of acceleration when getting on it. Other than that, so far those are my only gripes.
Thank you, for a good review. The Sierra will be my next truck. Raptors and PowerWagons are way cool. Ford and Rams newest offerings are very nice too. However, i'll take refined and evolved any day. Like the others, she is a bit pricey.
This truck looks good. Review was ok.. I don't get why the reviewers talk up the interior of a truck and then not mentions the payload or towing capacities. It's a TRUCK I need that info to make decisions on how much trailer and payload I can use!
Hey Greg, Thanks for the reviews. I've watched a bunch of your videos several times before I go for a new truck. From the F-150 to the Ram and GMC's. I decided I'm over the little hatchbacks and I now need room when driving. I'm torn between the Ram 1500 and Sierra. The GMC dealer is swaying me towards the Sierra when I discussed the pricing difference between the Ram and the Canyon. I told him it's too close for me to consider the Canyon since the Ram was coming in at $1000 cheaper with the Hemi and Crew Cab. The incentives are crazy right now! I'd hate to see my Focus ST go but I'm sick of being cramped on trips. Keep up the good work. Very informative.
Well, I pulled the trigger for the GMC Canyon. Perfect size for me and my garage. I love the utility and practicality. Everyone that sees it is surprised at the quality and the ride. Some never heard of it. I've seen one in my area since June. Thanks for the informative videos. I'll need another car next year so I'll be looking out for more.
True... I've got a 2000 Silverado with 137k miles and I won't buy new until they do something to REALLY impress me. I like the all terrain crew but 50k is diesel money
I would never be able to afford a truck like this. I am waiting for the mid size trucks from Chevy and GMC to come out in 2014. Maybe those will be more within my price range with some decent features.
Nice review for a nice truck , but i am not sure about it's offraod performance , and i think toyota tundra with 1794 interior would be better , but is it better than the tundra in offraod capability
I love the look of this truck. But it will be a while before I will buy one...after 3 yrs. you get the same truck but with depreciation added you bet better value ;)
I just saw almost this exact truck this morning on my way in to work and yes, I was reminded that its a good looking truck! But pricey! thanks for watching. -Greg
A internally deactivating cylinder system vs. a engine with twin turbos installed? Umm, I'll take the turbo everytime. Especially, when experts from everywhere all praise the quality of Ford's new ecoboost and new diesel. I'm glad chevy did something to upgrade their full size truck line up, but I don't see anyone outside of the chevy loyalist buying into it. Tundras are amazing trucks, and Ford F-series are doing great things in terms of quality and sales. I think dodge and chevy are in trouble
Ross Baker probably way too late but I've got an 2007 avalanche with the v4 mode and 6 speed that has 200k miles on it with no major work. I'd think that the 6speed being the next gen as is the updated 5.3 should have no problems with the truck at 55k miles
Ross Baker It has to many miles, that truck should be less then 30k. If you're going to buy used go private, make sure they have all the documentation, maintenance records etc. This is my motto, if I'm spending 27000 to 35000, it better be the best of everything for that dollar, not just payload and towing. That's why trim levels are so important, when buying and selling trucks.
Let me get this straight. You traded two trucks due to one of them having a small suspension problem, sway bar, and the other a transmission problem? Didn't the dealership offer to fix the sway bar? Seems to me its a minor, inconvenience to the owner but a fixable issue. And you never stated what was wrong w/ the trans. FYI, all cars & trucks will issues regardless of brand/maker.
I'm personally a fan of the carbon fiber. It's nice to see trims that don't force you to have old man wood.
I'm an old man,,,I'll take the wood grain.
This is a great review. Especially for 9 years ago. Well done. Picking my 2014 sierra tomorrow. I’m excited.
Love my 2014 GMC Sierra!
Probably the most informative and thorough auto reviews on youtube. Might throw in a quick 0-60 on your vids, that'd make them complete.
Nathan Jones I've done a few 0-60ish shots before...one thing though is that most of the cars I drive have very few miles on them, and haven't been sufficiently broken in yet, so I try not to flog them too much.

You're right, they are pricey. That's likely when I'd own too...several years from now! Thanks for checking it out.

Good review and you weren't as annoying as "The Fast Lane Truck" channel....Good job sir!
thanks for watching. Much appreciated.
-Greg
Well, I'm pretty aware that I'm not particularly funny, so I don't try to be!
thanks.
-Greg
thanks for watching, I appreciate it!
-Greg
Ya I find that they can be a little bias, especially when they compare other trucks to fords ecoboost.
Thank you very helpful. Got one in the driveway they let me take home for the night. Pointed out a lot of things i didn't know. great job.
I'm not exactly sure on that. I've got to assume that you can get a bench with a fold down armrest, but I didn't see any at the dealer.
Good question.
-Greg
high five, man! Just bought myself a 2014 and your vid helped me get there!
But I must say you DID talk more about this truck & its features in lengthy detail than other reviewers. Thanks for the info...
Love my 2014 GMC!! No problems
Z71 is the suspension setup, All-Terrain is the combination of suspension, wheels, tires, badges, etc...
Great job Greg! The new graphics and camera angles have taken your videos to another level. Keep up the good work!
I was referring to the truck but the review was perfect as well keep up the good work Greg!
-Ram

Unbelievable review Greg. It's a fantastic new truck. We have a 2013 Tahoe Z71, and to say the least, I'm looking forward to the new one.

-Greg
Outstanding review, MotorTrend should hire you.
Wow, thanks for the compliment. Let them know for me will ya!?
thanks for checking it out.
-Greg
Nice truck and great review. I traded in my 2011 Mercedes-Benz C300 AND 2012 Ram 1500 Express on almost this exact truck.

Andrew F yikes! A Hummer of all vehicles! thanks for chiming in. (good luck with the repairs)
-Greg
Thanks Greg. Should be okay as its only the bed. A unibody vehicle would be a mess.
I'll also chime in that I think the small/midsize segment has really fallen apart. If GM could truly bring a competitive/world class Colorado/Canyon to market, I think it would sell really well. That being said, I wouldn't expect the pricing to be that much more affordable than the full size segment!

Frankly, I think Ford should be rewarded for the work they're putting into weight reduction on the 2015 F150, takes some guts. As a cyclist we're always looking for weight reduction as it increases efficiency, with cars continually getting heavier with every iteration, that's refreshing.
Cheers!

GM's new line was just released. The prior lineup was behind in sales and ratings due to poor performances and mechanics. (?) My Z71's, a 2001 and 2004, both had major issues. Great video. One of the most informative reviews I have seen.
thanks! I appreciate the support and thanks for watching.
-Greg
The truck or my review?! ;)
thanks for watching.
-Greg
I love my 14 sierra but i think GM was very conservative on the transmission. I honestly think you really need a tune to wake the 5.3L up. There are guys with 5.5s 0-60 runs with a tune, CAI, and exhaust. I really hate the delay of acceleration when getting on it. Other than that, so far those are my only gripes.
It was definitely a nice truck...out of my price range!
thanks for watching.
-Greg
Thanks for putting this stuff together. Intelligent and insightful.
Nat F Thanks for watching. I appreciate the support.
-Greg
This truck is very nice. Great review. Keep em coming bud.
thanks for chiming in.
-Greg
great to hear! (spread the word! :)
thanks for watching.
-Greg
seven years is a long time in today's product cycles!
thanks for watching!
-Greg
I think the 2014 GMC Sierra is the best looking truck.
I think I'm in agreement!
-Greg
My Ford would disagree, but you are entitled to your opinion. ;)
thanks so much! I really appreciate the support.
thanks for watching.
-Greg
I suppose you liked it then!?
Thanks for watching.
-Greg
Thank you, for a good review. The Sierra will be my next truck. Raptors and PowerWagons are way cool. Ford and Rams newest offerings are very nice too. However, i'll take refined and evolved any day. Like the others, she is a bit pricey.
thanks so much!

dude your reviews are awesome !
I appreciate it.
-Greg
thanks!
-Greg
great video..love the truck..im about to possibly go buy a 14
Awesome video man. I think I might wait a while till one comes up used or dealers do better to price drops.
i just got a SLE single cab short bed, love the truck and my biggest complaint was that it is too quiet lol
6SpeedSilverado its definitely a quiet truck...very calming!
thanks for chiming in.
-Greg
Hey Greg,
Thanks for the reviews.
The incentives are crazy right now! gvkleys a tough decision, fun vs. practical! Thanks for chiming in!
-Greg

+gvkleys looks wise the sierra, but I've test driven the ram and you will get way more bang for your buck.
I'm hoping to!
thanks for again.
-Greg
thanks for checking it out!
-Greg
Great counter-argument, Sir. No pun intended.
I like the carbon fiber. I think it sets it off. The only gripe I have is that gm still puts the same color headliners in every truck...
An interesting point!
thanks for watching.
-Greg
Cost efficient...
there's definitely still bean counters at GM, they're just not entirely running the show anymore!
-Greg
True... I've got a 2000 Silverado with 137k miles and I won't buy new until they do something to REALLY impress me. I like the all terrain crew but 50k is diesel money
Any plans for the 2015 GMC Sierra Denali review?
I'm hoping to get in one. I'll likely try and drive the new Yukon first...perhaps with the monster 6.2!
thanks for stopping by.
-Greg
Great video. Thanks for the focus on the interior that is few
thanks for watching, I appreciate it.
Greg
Likewise!
Thanks!
-Greg
I would never be able to afford a truck like this. I am waiting for the mid size trucks from Chevy and GMC to come out in 2014. Maybe those will be more within my price range with some decent features.
Nicely done, thanks for posting the vid
thanks for watching!
-Greg
Nice review for a nice truck , but i am not sure about it's offraod performance , and i think toyota tundra with 1794 interior would be better , but is it better than the tundra in offraod capability
AHMED Ibrahim Front airdam is a bit low for fuel economy, but fortunately very flexible!
thanks for stopping by and spread the word!
-Greg
I got the 2015 Silverado 5.3 v8 and I'm very disappointed in the mpg. It suppose to be 19 mpg combined, I get only 16mpg.
Tech Star Thanks for sharing!
-Greg
I'm hoping that issue gets avoided!
-Greg
I love the look of this truck. But it will be a while before I will buy one...after 3 yrs. you get the same truck but with depreciation added you bet better value ;)

that's quite the incentive!
Rams had 8speeds by 2012 and heated and cool front and back seats with bigger screens and better ride then anytruck with air ride.
Yep you can. Front buckets are an option.
Another excellent review!

Great truck. Great commentary!
There is this exact model of sierra at my local dealer. 55k miles for 31 grand, bad deal? Is that too many miles?
So, no more seating for 6 ??
I bought a 2013 tundra, love it. But I think the Silverado Z71 looks better...in red.
Just both one today ❤️
thanks for watching!
