    14:51 I actually brought the 2005 box set even though I already had the 2004 set. I mainly brought the 2005 set so I could keep it at my nan's house so that if I ever wanted to watch the original Star Wars trilogy while visiting, I wouldn't have to bring the set I kept at home with me. I wasn't too bothered that the 2005 set didn't include the bonus disc. But when my nan went into an old people's home and didn't have a TV set or DVD player anymore, we gave the 2005 set away to charity. I kind of wish I'd kept it though as I like how the box set cover shows the artwork from one of the original 1977 Star Wars posters. But then again, I have the 2004 DVD set, the 2006 Limited Edition DVDs and The Complete Saga 2011 Blu-ray set. So, I already have quite a few copies of the original trilogy. And I also have the initial DVD releases of the prequels, the DVD releases of the 2D Clone Wars series from 2003-05 and the Blu-ray releases of The Force Awakens and Rogue One.

    The 3 Discs for just the films and the 4th disc for all the bonus features is the same as the Indiana Jones box set from 2003. The 2007 re release of that had a flimsy box as well just like the 2005 Star Wars set. But, it still had all 4 discs, just in slim cases.

    I've been looking forward to more of these! Very detailed and informative. Aside from the prequels, will you also be covering the spin-offs, like Ewoks, Droids, and the 2 Ewok Adventures on various formats? And are you planning to go as far as things like Robot Chicken Star Wars, Family Guy Star Wars and Lego Star Wars? Keep up the great series!

    When I bought this, the seller repackaged the bonus disk in an XBox case. I just pretend it's a special Yoda case. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    I saw the 2005 set at a second hand store about a month ago. I though it looked jarring, since I only knew of the 2004, 2006, and 2008, box set releases (in terms of DVD releases.)

    They should have put Widescreen and Full Screen on the individual discs.
    That Bonus Disc the main documentary spent way too much time on A New Hope.

    Just came across a widescreen copy of the 2005 set at a thrift store. Its pretty banged up but I'm not too worried since I already have the bluray steelbooks. I can just pick up a better copy if I come across it somewhere. At least this fills the hole in my collection until then. I honestly thought it was a bootleg at first since I hadn't even heard about this release coming out...

    What burns me up on the full screen is they were too lazy to make the credits in full screen and that at the end they've still got 1997 on them and they're not they're 2004.

    If I had to choose, the 2004 special edition changes were the best in my opinion. 1997 is ridiculous, considering Luke screams when he falls in Episode V, Jabba looks horrendous in Episode IV, not much for Episode VI, 2004 fixes that. The minor changes especially lightsabers while irritating on why they would ever consider changing them because the original cut looked better, but what do I know. No NOOO! From Vader, No CGI rocks covering R2-D2, and no continuity error.

    One important question: is the bonus material disc, that comes with the 2004 full screen box set, is full screen or the same widescreen as the widescreen box set?

    • @ChronoRadio
      @ChronoRadio  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      PlotagonDP 36 The bonus material disc is the same for both, just with the color scheme of the label and the case art matching full screen by being old. The actual disc content is exactly the same. We are doing snapped off

    • @PlotagonDP36

      Nathan Butler even the deleted scenes and the trailers are the same from the widescreen box set bonus disc?

      PlotagonDP 36 Yes. It’s literally the same disc with a different label on it.

    Ewoks, Droids, Ewok telemovies, Clone Wars, and The Clone Wars, definitely. A few others too. Not sure about the things like Robot Chicken, though, since they aren't LFL, per se.

    I've been reorganizing my collection over the past week and was irritated over the gold vs silver packaging. I have all of the prequel widescreen DVDs in gold. I have the OT DVDs in 2004 silver and 2006 gold. I keep the 2006 gold boxes on the shelf with the PT DVDs as well as the Story of Star Wars DVD (2006 Walmart exclusive??) which has a gold spine...then there's the Empire of Dreams "Bonus Material" disc I have from 2004 but it has the silver spine. Like you say, I think the silver looks better but...I want them to match! I looked on eBay and found a gold version from the full screen set on ebay but didn't really want it if it was full screen. One seller on ebay that I found had listed the gold version bonus disc by itself and stated it was widescreen. That arched a brow with me so I came here to see the review. Sure enough, the bonus disc is the same no matter which set. The listing was a Buy it Now for $6.49 and free shipping. SOLD! Once it arrives I will likely sell my silver widescreen 2004 set on ebay as I'll have no further use for it. I'm not a completest in this area so I'll be set. Thanks Nathan, as always, for the great info! These videos are like an encyclopedia that can be referred to over and over again.

      +Matt Desrochers FYI: Check the playlist, and you'll eventually find The Story of Star Wars covered a while back. It was a Wal-Mart pack-in exclusive for ROTS but it was based on the PVD material from a bit before.

    • @ChronoRadio

      At this point, that won't be happening because (a) I don't have them all yet and (b) they aren't official, retail home video releases. They might make for a supplemental episode, but not a regular part of the series, since they aren't an official product line.

    I have the 2006 version and it’s better since I have two different versions of the movies

    • @ChronoRadio
      @ChronoRadio  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On the other hand, other than one audio commentary and a LSW3:TOT demo, the 2006 sets have no bonus features at all. So it depends on what someone's after: the "unaltered" (but not really) versions on a separate disc, or bonus features. The one thing all can agree on, though, is that the 2005 boxed set was the worst of the 2004 - 2008 ways to get the films, as it was the 2004 set without the bonus features disc.

    • @Code1Lyoko
      @Code1Lyoko ปีที่แล้ว

      Well Nathan when you were talking about A New Hopes changes for dvd in 2004 with Han and Greedo well people say that in that scene on the dvd releases they had the film like stop at the one moment before playing it again if you don’t know what I’m talking about I’m talking about Han jerking his head to the right to dodge Greedo’s blast it looked like the film suddenly stopped and then they continued filming and it’s been like that since then until the 2011 blu ray copies they made the scene 10 times better by tiding up the scene and making it look like they fire at the same time

    The part that has a long time ago in a galaxy far far away does not come out and it does not have a back to it.

    • @ChronoRadio
      @ChronoRadio  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah! Okay, I didn't even think about the inner sleeve. Basically, the set has the four discs, which are in their own cases, which you seem to have. Then those are to go into a sort of "inner box" that holds them, and then the cardboard part you have is the "outer box" that goes over that inner one.
      This is a pic of mine: www.flickr.com/photos/nathanpbutler/9741736395/in/set-72157629408300634
      You seem to be missing the inner box, which is on the top right of that pic. The rest of your cases appear to be legit and complete. You might check to be sure about your disc labels and the inserts. Doesn't seem to be a bootleg (fake) of any kind, just a set missing part of the box.

    I always thought the new emperor scene is a disgrace to the actress and actors voice in the original. Why bother to change the scene if you always wanted Ian to be the emperor?

    • @ChronoRadio

      Where have they said that Lucas always wanted McDiarmid to play Palpatine, such that it would've been the choice to make back when still filming TESB?

    When you said the first new DVD we've gotten since 2004, Do the Bonus Discs from 2006 not count?

    • @ChronoRadio
      @ChronoRadio  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +The Creepernator Without rewatching, I'm not sure of the context here, but I would not count bonus content discs, even if they are essentially film discs, as a new DVD release, per se. The comment was probably pointing out how they tend to constantly reissue the same product in new packaging, so the DVD discs that were authored for 2004 were re-released as the core product on DVD again in 2005, 2006, and 2008.

  • @mestupproductions21
    @mestupproductions21 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    It was also brand new

    • @ChronoRadio
      @ChronoRadio  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it was listed as brand new, it really sounds less like a fake and more like someone pulling a fast one by taking something that should have been new and complete and selling it as such, only for it not to actually be new or complete, just repackaged. So far, nothing you've said or shown makes me believe it is fake, but it definitely is not complete.

    • @ChronoRadio
      @ChronoRadio  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      In theory, it could just be missing the slipcase. If you want, take a pic (or pics) of the cases, any inserts, and the discs themselves, and email them to me: nathan@starwarsfanworks.com. I'll take a look for you.

    • @ChronoRadio
      @ChronoRadio  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From what I can see in those pictures, it looks legitimate. I'm not sure what you mean about not having a slipcase. The box looking thing that you have that is not entirely folded up is the slipcase itself. What you have is indeed the widescreen 2004 set.

      +Nathan Butler Nah. He might be in NZ. I lent the set from my uncle and it had the bonus disc and all that jazz, but the NZ releases are different
      For example, the 1997 widescreen VHS isn't wide in NZ, it's just a silver version of the gold (fullscreen) version. They had a slipcase similar to the 2004 DVD release you have in the video. Just look it up on TradeMe (an online NZ exclusive website).
