    That was a great ride on a very fast at times train. Slovenia scenery never disappoints. Views of the Sava River were always great. The homes on the slopes were beautiful and around the small towns that the train went through. Thanks for showing me a part of the world that I will never see in real life.

      You are correct. This is series SŽ/JŽ 642 built by Brissonneau et Lotz diesel locomotive. But there is also a SŽ/JŽ series 643 locos built under license by "Đuro Đaković" in Slavonski Brod. Se SŽ 643 had more powerfull engine inside and some other changes were made. How to to separate them only by visuals is easy. SŽ 642 has yellow straight line all over the loco and SŽ 643 has 2 falling yellow lines at each end of loco. @1:47:30 these are SŽ 643 in newer Blue paint scheme. 2 are coupled together.

    I was in Slovenia a couple times in the early 2000 and then again in 2014 and 2015 for business reasons but it was between Ljubljana the Capital and down to the port city of Koper and surrounding coastal area but I'm surprised how lovely this trip was between Ljubljana and Maribor. Still amazed how much the government is putting into and updating the rail system, you can see the massive amount of improvement that's happened even since 2015 and when I first visited back around 2004 the difference is truly incredible in such a short amount of time really.

    • @RailRelaxation
      @RailRelaxation  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Richard Long it is true, they are investing a lot in infrastructure, especially on two main lines, from Ljubljana to Maribor and to Koper. There are major works on the second line all the way down to the sea, to Koper. Hopefully this will improve the travelling time and people will more often choose to take a train. Gretings from Slovenia!

    Čudovito ! Čestitam ! Meraviglios0 ! Congratulazioni ! Il tratto superiore sloveno della vecchia Vienna-Trieste. Questi video Rail Relaxation sono i migliori in assoluto! Due curiosità: al km. 127, 1 fra Poličane e Slovenska Bistrica c'era fino novanta anni fa un tunnel, eliminato. Fino a 20 anni fa si vedevano ancora i resti delle nicchie, gli ultimi lavori hanno allargato la sede dei binari. Ma si può ancora capire che c'era. Al km. 134 per un passaggio a livello guasto il treno si ferma e poi fa la regolare marcia a vista. E poi a Pragersko gli ormai infiniti lavori..........quando finiranno?

    is there a refurbishment in Pragersko 's railway station? i saw Zidani Most - Celje trackside is more recent and renewed! The line close to Sava River lacks of a modern railway! The mainline is strategic but needs a line less tortuous! I saw a lot of increasing changes from Zidani Most upon Lasko! maybe Savinja Vallery is more inhabited! I didn't understand why SZ couldn't make a tunnel linking Ljubljana to Celje, without passing on the Sava Valley.

    • @RailRelaxation
      @RailRelaxation  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @wladislaw79 There are major works on that line. They are renovating the Railway station in Pragersko and the line there. The works should end by the end of 2023. Concerning the tunnel from Ljubljana to Celje, I really don't know. I heard in the news something about the new railway line from Ljubljana to Maribor with the travelling time 55 minutes. That would be great. Maybe someone else reading this comment can tell us more....

    • @gtgagaggagagagga
      @gtgagaggagagagga ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is the original line, that was built by austrians 150 years ago, Sava valley was an important coal mining centre at that time, also building it where highway is would be expensive so it is what it is.

    • @TheANDRAXY
      @TheANDRAXY ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are planning a series of tunnels in the Sava River from Ljubljana until Zidani most, and in Savinja valley from Zidani most till Celje to make the line straight and capable of speeds up to 200km/h, but the project hasn't started yet.The current line mostly runs on the old corridor from 19th century, when tunneling technology wasn't so advanced and required speeds were low. The Section from Celje to Ljubljana is currently a major bottleneck.
      The highway is much more direct and as a result, rail passenger traffic is low. With the modernisation and tunnel building, the travel time on ICS train will be faster than with a car.
      Celje -> Maribor -> Austria is currently being renewed, so is Ljubljana -> Koper (with a completely new, mostly tunneled line from Divača onwards). Renovation works were already completed on Ljubljana -> Jesenice line last year.

    Very nice video, thanks for sharing. BTW, do you know what's the criteria for light signals being positioned to the left or to the right side of the running track? Thanks.

    • @ZvonimirZelenika
      @ZvonimirZelenika 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Signals are typically on right side of the track (in stations or on single-track lines), but when You have a dual-track line, signals on the open line (outside of station) are on the "outer" side - so both right and left, especially if line is equipped with bidirectional signalling when both tracks can be used for both directions. On double-track lines, Slovenia follows "Italian" convention which is driving on the left in normal operation (in neighbouring Croatia our default is opposite, right-hand operation). So, in stations you look at the signal on the right, but on double-track lines You look to "outside" depending on which track You are.

    • @ZvonimirZelenika
      @ZvonimirZelenika 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would argue that right-hand operation makes more sense as then signalling is always logical (on the right) regardless if You are in a station or on open track (especially as line does not have to have bidirectional signalling) - in our case (Croatia) even with bidirectional signalling it is considered "regular" to drive on the right (and observe right-side signals) while driving on the left is considered "irreuglar" operation. In Slovenia it turns around - in station and single-track You observe right-side signals, but on dual-track You follow left-side signals.

    • @ruipina5636
      @ruipina5636 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ZvonimirZelenika it's curious and I think unique. But... that's the way it is :) thank you so much for the explanation. Cheers.

    • @ZvonimirZelenika
      @ZvonimirZelenika 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ruipina5636 I stand corrected - at 45:33 You see line to Dobova (and Croatian border) branching on the right. That line (Zidani Most - Dobova) is exception in Slovenia as it's right-hand operation (same as line in Croatia it connects to) - take a look here: th-cam.com/video/djyd95idgwI/w-d-xo.html

    • @TheDiveO
      @TheDiveO 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Regardless of considering LH or RH side track the standard track, the rationale for putting signals on the outside of a double track line is simplicity. Ease of access and maintenance of signals and their infrastructure. Also, ground-mounted signal posts would need more space between tracks. That's the reason for using signal bridges only in special situations (visibility). Many countries have similar signal installation designs.
