By the way, I last traveled by train in Italy in 2012. I see substantial improvement in the design and look of the stations, the tracks, the power lines, the engines and passenger cars.

Just a point of interest: I don't know if you've taken a look at the manfredi3692 YT channel, but posted there in pieces is a run along the old line from Udine to Tarvisio and Udine to Villach. Of course, being recorded ~30 years ago, the audio/visual quality isn't up to today's standards, but it's still very nice to be able to see the old route. Similarly, that channel also has the old run up the south ramp of the Brenner Pass, before, for instance, the Schlern and Pflersch Tunnels became operational. Just thought these 2 items might pique your interest a bit.
Nothing against these tunnels, but they should have let at least some old lines operational too (more or less like Westbahn in Austria). Many towns and villages lost their connection to railway. In case of Pontebbana there was originally just one track. But in case of Brenner there were two tracks before building these tunnels, and stations. Now it has less capacity than before - this is NOT a change for better.
The distortion in this newer wide-angle lens (especially at the left and right edges) is fairly substantial. Is there a way it can be reduced in future videos? It's likely a byproduct of the new camera (which changed recently, if I remember correctly), but if it can be reduced some it would be appreciated. Keep up the great work!
@jgbcodemonkey As you probably already saw in the comments I made a test with new camera just to see how it works. Maybe I still have some videos with wide angle, but, from last week on I started to record on linear mode again. So, int he future there will be no more distortion on the angles. Thank you for this High Quality journey! I raelly enjoyed it but didn't know that there were such many long tunnels on this route. I travelled on the old line many years ago; the views were spectacular and I had plenty of time to enjoy them as the trains ran slowly. I'm glad the old route is still in use as a bike trail.
Cab signalling (BAcc, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blocco_Automatico_a_Correnti_Codificate ) ordered an emergency stop due to transmission failure (AC, assenza codice) or simply acknowledgement timeout (there was a temporary speed restriction, restrictive signalling codes must be acknowledged within a due time).
Seconds before the braking there is a board announcing a temporary speed restriction, a yellow hexagon with two yellow lights arranged on a diagonal... I wonder if they had some issue with the temporary balises placed between the rails to enforce the restriction. The actual restricted speed section is in the tunnel just after the viaduct, it begins with a yellow rectangle with two horizontal yellow lights and ends with a green rectangle with a single green light.
Sadly, the construction dates of some of those tunnels indicate that this would have been an impossible journey in 1995. I say that, since in that year I was working as an intern on an archaeological dig in Osnabrück during my studies as a part-time mature undergraduate in Geography with German at the University of Derby and one of my colleagues on the dig came from Udine, so this otherwise might have been the first stage of her crossing the Alps towards Germany to get to Osnabrück. It was a fairly dramatic journey, nevertheless, so thanks for this.
@@RailRelaxation You're welcome. Since I posted that comment I have found the Deutsche Bahn rail map of 1995 that I still have with a map of the railways of Europe on the reverse and it appears that the Udine-Tarvisio route was apparently identical to what it is today, but it is very small-scale, so it's difficult to tell the detail.
Great video, thanks for uploading!! I watch these on the exercise bike - makes me feel I'm going somewhere😁 One question: why does the train go so slow through the tunnels before Pontebba (54km/h)? They look similar to the later tunnels (same age, maybe less incline...) yet they steam through those others at 109km/h! Thanks again
@s0nica that you. It is a great idea...one day you can go on a bike and ride on the old line (cycling path was build on the old Pontebbana railway line) 😁. The speed limit in the tunnels before Pontebba is just 80km per hour and in the others is 110 km per hour. I am not sure what is the reason..
Very well done ! Judging by the position of the camera and sound from the microphone, I suppose your equipment is fixed somewhere outside… Don't you fear for it ? and how do you do to get this sound (windy, but not garbled or polluted by wake and turbulence)? Very nice to watch with good headphones !
@nanba25 Thank you very much for the compliment. I mount the camera outside, it is quite well secure and, I use the separate microphone to get better sound. The most complicated thing is to capture a quality sound....but, I am very happy that you find it ok.

Bellissimo video, complimenti !
I don't understand why this train drives so slowly, like around 100 kph. Actually the pontebbana railway is allowed to be driven 180 kph through the most parts. Actually from Venzone away until Ugovizza Valbruna all the time except the area of Pontebba
A mio parere dovrebbe andare almeno e dico almeno a 180/190 kmh invece fatica a raggiungere i 150 kmh. Qualcuno mi sa rispondere? Grazie
The maximum speed of the line is 180km/h, although ÖBB Railjets are only certified to go 160km/h in Italy (instead of 230km/h) because they limit speeds based on axle loads I believe. I would be interested to know why it travels so slow as well though.

@tonkonardelli8658 hvala vama. Ne znam što se dogodilo.
Beautiful video! Thank you. Trieste - Venice had be nice as well, do you plan to make it in the next future?
@fredpalmer260 This line is on my bucket list.
Excellent footage, what make of camera did you use. Subscribed your channel as well.
@michaelrademacher2986 thank you for subscribing. I use GoPro 10 and 11 cameras.
Great video, thanks for uploading!! I watch these on the exercise bike - makes me feel I'm going somewhere😁
One question: why does the train go so slow through the tunnels before Pontebba (54km/h)?
Hello👋

@gargamel91660 great. I am thinking about going to France to record some lines there for quite a while. I still have no videos from France, it would be great if I could get some advice about the lines....and about the language....now we have the google translate😀

Thank you for your trains videos.❤Very nice camera work and lovely sceneries. They are very relaxing, almost like sitting next to the train engineer. 🙂…..Any chance of a Simplon Tunnel run from Italy 🇮🇹 to Switzerland 🇨🇭?
@julianbristow4793 Thank you very much! I would love to do it. For sure will go back to Switzerland. I just don't know when.
Note: the 'Venzone River" mentioned in the video is actually the Tagliamento River. The rest is perfect.
@fabiogerussibueriis thank you for the correction. I already change the name in the timestamps in the description of he video. Not possible to change the name on the video any more, but appreciate your comment, from that comments I am learning a lot.
God how many tunnels ! LOL🥸🥸🥸
@veijovuorela7574 yes, there are quite a few of them on this line.

Bellissimo video, complimenti !
@paolopetronio8260 Grazie.
Belíssima viagem por terras Italianas.
@joaosantanna7552 obrigado. Realmente é belíssima.
Total paradox. Many very long tunnels built, but the easiest part - next to Udine - has still just one track.
Would you happen to know what is the maximum speed allowed on the railway? (180-200?)
Further, is 90kph speed limit mandatory in all tunnels?
@marcoloc2609 Max speed slowed is 180 km-h. I am not sure about the speed in the tunnels.
What's happening @ 25:30, the trains stops in the middle of a viaduct, without a signal in sight… ?
@nanba25 Sorry I don't know what happened.

8 hours for a distance of just 440 km. You perhaps can imagine why we always used to go by car to Venice.
If You are a bird than it is 440km, but there is a small 🏔 between so it's closer to 600km both by car and train. And it's about 7,5 hours so it's bit better 😀
