I just tried FLO-ing a Dynamic Gold Stiff Shaft with a drill chuck & laser and the response I get is a flat line regardless of the shaft orientation. Now, the initial path may be elliptical at the start, which probably is due to me, but shortly after becomes a flat line. Question, is FLO-ing required when using a good quality stiff steel shaft? Thank you.
I haven't encountered any shafts, including the DG's that FLO in any orientation. That being said, I did come across TPT shafts (Graphite) who claim to be stable in any orientation, but with their ultra steep price tag, I've never had the opportunity to test one for myself. I have had trouble finding a solid FLO line with C Tapers and also have a Ping Tour Shaft (Graphite) that maintained a surprisingly tight ellipse in whatever orientation, but with that one, I did find one orientation of FLO, despite other orientations exhibiting tight ellipses. To answer your question more directly, I have FLO'ed a set of DG S300's, PX 5.0's and PX LZ 6.0's, all for personal use, and all of them exhibit a specific FLO orientation across the entire set of irons. I had a friend bore out the threading from the chuck, and then I use the smallest laser, both in length and diameter I could find. I added masking tape to it so it fit snug inside the chuck.
A friend made the chuck for me...I think he got it at Harbor Freight and used a drill press to make room for the laser. As for the laser, I found it on Amazon, back in 2013...apparently, the item is no longer available.
