  • Music, quilting and no talking! Just relax and enjoy. All the elements used in this improv quilting were introduced previously. You know all of them. If you do not, there is a whole playlist or two with suitable videos. Today it is all about using your favorite patterns to create a new design, new project, new art.

      there are basic videos that need explanation. If I want to teach, then I need to talk. But there are so many videos where people just talk and do nothing! So I like to quilt, put some nice music and share this peaceful expirience.... hugs and Love from Germany!

    Thank you for showing this in real time. So many fmq vids are sped up . This gives the impression that the work must be done quickly... as least it did to me. This is a process that should be enjoyed for the journey. It's my happy, calm, quiet place..... Thank you for sharing...

      Thank you for your comment. I do not like the accelerated videos. I agree with you. Quilting is a slow art. I remember how much it helped me to see the real speed. I realized I do not have to rush. Actually I am way more effective at lower speed. And more relaxed. I will continue with type of content. I am a rebel in the world of tick-Tock, IG reels, and social media :) ❤❤❤

      @@quiltingnerd I started my FMQ quilting journey on my domestic... and still use it for smaller projects. The natural progression for me was going to a longarm. I have a smaller one (15") and refuse to move to larger one or a larger frame than my 8ft. I have told my quilting friends that the day this turns to work, I'm out! I'm 71 and have been doing some form of sewing or quilting since I was about 8. When I transitioned to the longarm, everything I saw was accelerated on You Tube. The videos were great teaching tools, but I had to force myself to go slow. I don't have a stitch regulator on my longarm, so, I have begun to think of it as a domestic with handles! That has helped tremendously with slowing me down. I set the speed for a good movement to stitch ratio, then go slowly to maintain that pretty stitch. With this mentality, my quilting has improved greatly. And a surprise is that watching FMQ on domestics vs the longarm videos has helped reiterate in my brain that fast isn't always best..... Thank you again for your content. Your work is beautiful, soothing, and very educational!

      @@lanellehatcher561 Wow! Thank you for the story of your quilting journey! What a gift. I am quilting since 8 years. Then I got my tiny sewing space. I even do not have space for a long arm but I am happy with my large Janome. I can quilt a King size quilt on it. ANd I understand you about the hectic and pressure of preformance. We have to do faster, better, impress....I don't want that. For me quilting is a slow art. It is life style.... I would love to have more time for it, but I do enjoy what I can. It helps me to slow down enough to hear my thoughts. So I will never accelerate my videos. Quilting is slow, a beautiful meditation...

      This time I wanted strong contrast. The fabric is almost black so it is perfect for the golden threads. And they are shiny. I had this box of the yellows and wanted to experiment and focus on something what I would never do without my YT activities. ❤❤❤ Thank you for your feedback!

      @@MarionFeltham This is the way how I learn. Blending thread is extremely relaxing as it hides the inaccuracies. But high contrast... you need to analyze and think what is missing, how you can do it better, where is the problem... too much control, wrong angle, too large stiches.... It was brutal at the beginning but I learned that mistakes are mine to make and that I can hide them, learn from them..... I made me better person in a way...

      @quiltingnerd  27 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@MarionFeltham I learned that way. High contrast quilting shows everthing and pushes me put of my comfort zone. I learned to recognize my mistakes and own them. Actually it made me a better person, less of a perfectionist and more comfortable with my imperfections....I like my quilting way more and I like me much better as well..... funny how that worked out. :)

      @@quiltingnerd You only learn from pain and making mistakes, at least that's my experience of life, and I think perfection is perhaps over rated. My piano teacher and I used to discuss this - perfect technique, perfect timing, perfect notes somehow doesn't touch the soul as when someone plays with feeling and passion ie slightly slower, or faster at times, and with the odd wrong note. The human condition is a complex and wonderful thing, indeed quilting (and other creative activities) can be a great teacher in so many ways, that's why I think they are so important. Again, beautiful work and so pleased to hear you get so much from it. Long may that continue. Take care.

    You know, Gosia, I put one of your quilting to music videos on in the room while I'm working on my own quilt. I think it helps with my flow. I'm more than halfway done with my quilt, the one alternating snowball blocks and 9-patch blocks. I'm using a Glide Trilobal polyester thread in Cream for the whole thing-it looks amazing on the back of the quilt, which is a blue and green brush stroke texture. I love when I like the back of a quilt better than the front. Does that ever happen to you? I enjoy your improv quilting and it's so inspiring and educational, gives me ideas. Blessings my quilting friend, Cynthia

      @quiltingnerd  27 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      The description of your quilt sounds yummy. And yes, I do love when the back looks good. Actually, sometimes, when I am using busy fabric on top, I like to use a plain one on the back, so when I turn the quilt down I can see all the texture. I get it, totally.
      About the music. I quilt with my blutooth headphones on. It is either music or audiobook. I can write you the names of my favorite creators. It is mostly instrumental modern classic. The quilting just flows. It is a pity I cannot use it directly in my videos, copy rights and so on. But yes, good music gives you wings.
