I used to be vegetarian for 6 months in the past. I'm also a lazy cook and I ended up always eating premade/artificial soy foods. When I realized it wasn't that healthy, I figured I'd just go back eating meat.
I used to eat a lot of soy products too and found the same! It's hard when you think 'oh its vegan so it must be healthy' which is a trap I fell into for a while.
Proud of you! ✨1:16 loved this part, I thought was hilarious (as a complement) referring to animals as people. I do feel bad that I work in the dairy industry, but it's kinda hard not to in NZ. I just do it so that I can feed myself and put a roof over my head, as I'm a vegetarian too. There is also scientific proof that human beings are biologically designed to be vegetarian. A few pieces of evidence for this are: 1. Our teeth- we have molars for grinding plant based foods, whereas carnivores do not have molars. 2. The length of our digestive tract is 15 times our body length, whereas for carnivores it's 4 times their body length. Carnivores have much shorter digestive tracts than herbivores, and the fact that human beings have such long digestive tracts indicates our biologically herbivorous nature. Also, plant based foods are much more anti-inflammatory where as meats are highly inflammatory to the body- which explains the extra energy that you experienced when doing your degree at Uni as a vegetarian
Thank you for you comment! I don't believe it is hard to find work outside the dairy industry in NZ, none of my friends or family have ever worked in that industry. However I don't know you or your background so maybe that suits your lifestyle. Yes, there is a lot of evidence to back up what I feel, so thanks for sharing that :)
@@annamatthews1 I live in the Waikato region and dairy is quite a prominent industry here. Mostly vegan here for the last ten years. Ovo/lacto vegetarian before that for about 4 years. To me it’s a tiny effort to reduce unnecessary cruelty and waste of resources. For this we’re hated.
I have been a vegetarian from my early teens, so almost 25 years now. Two or three years on a vegan diet, now I eat chocolate, eggs, and cheese from time to time. So still like 97% vegan 😅 It's a simple way to reduce cruelty and pain in this world, and we can easily practice it every day. Keep it up! Greetings from Germany. ✌❤
Wow, what an achievement! That's still making a huge different to the world and I'm sure to your health, well done for sticking to what feels right to you :)
im a lazy cook aswell xD im eating since 5 years everday the same meal -> chicken, rice and vegetables and I am happy with it. I respect people who live vegetarian or vegan, but i dont want to stopp eating meat.
I was vegetarian for a few years, in school. Since two years I reduce my meat consumption. Actually, I will start being vegetarian or vegan again. Mostly for the same reasons you have mentioned.
Anna, thank you for the new video! I guess I'm more or less vegan... I love to eat hamburgers and another meat products, I must confess, but I don't do that very often. So, if I may ask, you're a vegetarian, but not vegan?
Some good points, but I do believe that the argument that meat has to be cooked all the way through is a misconception. Anecdotally I can say that I've never been ill from undercooked or even slightly spoiled chicken, though I wouldn't recommend the latter.
@@annamatthews1 The red color of steak is not blood, it's myoglobin (a protein) that gives the muscle cells its red color. I assume you are referring to a steak that is "well-done". Personally, I think having steak like that is quite unappetizing and therefore a waste of food.
there is plenty of scientific evidence backing the health and environmental benefits of vegetarianism and veganism, luckily google does exist for those who want to learn more. thank you for being open about being vegetarian, even if it doesn't wasnt a video about convincing people, you still spread awareness. all the best to ya.
Thank you! I really didn't want to make this about facts and figures, rather just my story. As you say, I hope those that wish to find out more will do their own research :)
Conflicted, tbh, between my body wanting meat and my psyche not wanting it (same ethical reasons as you). Compromise of meat at lunchtime weekdays and not other times is working for me.
I'm a lacto-ovo vegetarian. That is short of being vegan. It means a person who will eat eggs and honey and will eat cheese (though I don't like cheese that much), but will not any animal flesh or body products like gelatin.
@@annamatthews1 I love eating veg. I don't miss that, what do they call it.... uh, _meat,_ that's it. Really, I get my protein mostly from eggs, but also tofu. I also don't put that much into cooking. Various friends set examples for me, and were non-preachy about it. So I do the same for others. Animals are wonderful and all deserve to be loved and nurtured. Ideally, I'd eat only Pasture Raised eggs. I'm still working on that. I haven't always been able to stay with that rule. Also, I eat a great product marketed as "Just Egg," an egg substitute, loaded with protein and it tastes great (not an ad, I assure you).
What do you think of carnivorous plants? It always amuses me that they can photosynthesise like any other plant, but every morning, they wake up and choose violence, and their design is a deliberate mechanism to attract the hungry and the vulnerable, entice them through their greed and then to deliberately and persistently murder countless unwitting insects, with no regard for their families or their circumstances.... and not content with that, they then play a symphony of death, through their gramophone like appendages, as the sun goes down, musical grotesque melodies, celebrating their macabre, evil and relentless homocidal grip on the world......
I've been a meat eater all of my life, I've raised beef for consumption, but I do respect vegetarians!
I'm glad you still respect us, even though you eat differently. And I respect your choice to eat meat :)
