- Damian Lillard's history of clutch NBA shots had to start somewhere and ... well, he didn't wait long. Lillard's first ever playoff series presented an opportunity to win the whole thing with one dagger.
To understand what a big deal that was, you need to look back at how the 2014 Trail Blazers came to be. That story includes a history of excellence, then a turn for the worse, followed by the exciting rise of LaMarcus Aldridge, but also the sad tales of guys like Brandon Roy.
And this was a Rockets team that had just found James Harden a co-star, trying desperately to avoid a second-straight playoff washout.
This was a big moment; one of the first and brightest in Lillard's career. Let's rewind it!

Mchale was an awful coach. Notice how Parsons was the one having to coordinate defensive assignments while he stood by with his mouth open
Seeing Roy's knees deteriorate as a Blazers fan was, and still is so heartbreaking. They really could have done it if he was healthy.
I watch the 2011 comeback against the Mavs. It makes me choke up. It was like watching the old man give one last great performance, but he was still so young.

I still believe that trio would have had a shot at a title, had all of them been healthy and played to their full potential, though we rarely saw Oden being able to do that unfortunately. They also had a really good supporting cast in 09-10 with Miller, Blake, Fernandez, Batum, Outlaw...

Another great moment for a great player like Roy, only team to not get mollywhooped by those 2011 greatest Mavs team of all-time was the Blazers, and It was his last act too on his remaining toe.

man this moment means so much to me and i’m not even a blazer fan. every generation has that one shot that started it all for them, and for us teenagers i feel like this is that shot. watching this just gives me flashbacks to st patrick’s day jerseys, and playing nba 2k13 and that one nba jingle bell commercial. such a good time to be a young fan of the nba. too bad you never know your in the good ole days until there over, cause man those were the good ole days.

This video was extremely well put together, built up the tension so nicely and waited until the last seconds to finally show this absolutely beautiful shot. Even though i’ve seen this buzzer beater a hundred times it still felt incredibly exciting because of how good the narration was!
This is hands down the best sports series on the internet. Even though I know what's coming the writing and delivery puts me right back in that moment. I always get chills at the end of these episode when the play unfolds.
This really reminds me how people really over play the whole "Downfall of Dwight Howard" narrative. The guy was so close to reinventing himself at Houston and even made the All NBA Second Team while wearing a Rockets uniform. Unfortunately, he got hit with the injury bug.
He was also a key cog in helping them overcome a 3-1 series deficit that next year

As a Blazers fan, that shot still gives me goosebumps! I legit cried watching it live, one of the most clutch shots of all time!
After watching how the floor was spread and a more detailed look at how things played out I can appreciate Lillard's read of the mismatch and decision to break the play and catch the look he did. THAT is good basketball, not jumping into every defender to draw shots at the line like he does now. I'm not debating anyone so save your breath

I know we don’t see the Blazers go to the Finals, WCF, or this year even the 2nd round, but I enjoy watching a first round Dame night more than I do games deeper in the playoffs by a lot of teams.
As a Thunder fan, with how things turned out for OKC I can now say I am very grateful for getting "Dame Timed", if you will, in 2019. But still, Dame is an absolute clutch weapon

Brandon Roy is such a tragic story. So much friggin talent negated by bad injuries. It's an even bigger "what if?" than Odon. Because Roy had a ton of success in his early professional career. Unlike Odon who never had a chance to prove either way if he could hang with the best of the best.
I saw this on tv live and maaaaannnn I was soooo hyped. I was literally screaming. Dame is the real deal. That being said go Lakers.

Correction: Damian Lillard was taken with the 6th pick, which originally belonged to the Brooklyn Nets (Gerald Wallace trade lol). The Blazers got the 11th pick that year and took Meyers Leonard. They were bad, but they didn't get that high of a lottery pick.

The dominance of the Spurs, the underdog status of the Mavs, the twists and turns of Carter's career, and the ridiculousness that had already happened in that series (Dallas controlling most of Game 1 before going 8 minutes without an FG, then blowing out San Antonio on the road, and the 17 lead changes already in Game 3)

Damien Lillard is a bad man, and I mean that in the best way possible. He's got that x-factor that allows some to maintain ordinary focus when the moment is extraordinary.
