4 steps of making roti canai original (kampung) style:_
    1. ULI: knead the dough and shaping into individual.
    2. PERAP: soaking dough in oil overnight
    3. CANAI: press and pull the dough into a thin sheet then hang loose in the air; roll into a sanggul, flatten..( housewives dont know how to TEBAR i.e throwing dough in the air)
    4. BAKAR : cook on a hot oily grill..
In 1960s we were still making our own roti at home. That was a feat some housewives were proud of.

Some places call it Roti Prata. Throughout Malaysia it is known as Roti Canai. According to the old person told when I was a little boy that the name canai is actually originated from Chennai. It is understood that when the mamak migrated long time ago from India to Malaysia they brought this lovely dish and name it as Roti Chennai. As times goes by the local called it as roti canai. There is another version of the story that Roti Canai came from the way the dough were prepared by kneeling it and these process is called Canai. Both of the stories can be accepted.
There are many type of roti canai available. The list are as follows:
    Roti Canai kosong
    Roti telur
    Roti Planta
    Roti Pisang
    Roti Sardin
    Roti tissue
    Roti Bom
    Roti Sarang burung
    Roti tampal
    Roti Bawang
    Roti Canai Cheese.
I believe that it wont stop there as there are many creative pleople will come out with all kind of new recipe of these roti. What ever it is Roti will forever be one of the Malaysian favourite dish.
My favourite place for roti canai is Doraisamy and Selangor Mansion.
And to served as roti banjir pecah "power" 1 biji.
As usual an amazing video from both of you.

We usually say 'Roti Garing' when we order. Some shops make it overly garing, but this humble uncle's one is one of the most perfect one I would say. Soft inside and finely garing outside. That's every Malaysians' dream Roti Canai. ❤️🇲🇾

Both can open a roti canai shop in Japan. If you don't know how to flip no problem. Both of you hold the dough and tarik until big big. Then you give it a new name - roti canai tarik. Serve with teh tarik

In Kedah they have Roti Sarang Burung. Crispy roti canai in the shape of O and in the center they pour in Curry Kambing with 2 half boiled egg

My favorite kuah for roti canai is kari kambing and kari ikan. Sometimes i do eat roti canai banjir kuah campur with half boiled eggs on top. Everyone has their own favorite combo when eating roti canai here in Malaysia

Come to Kajang, and i’ll take you to the most underrated roti canai place. some roti canai only taste good when it’s hot but the good ones last forever. sometimes i snack with roti canai on its own without the “kuah” on movie nights. Good roti canai should taste good on its own even without the “kuah” and even when it’s cold.

Roti Canai made by Malays are usually homemade soft and crunchy roti with sweeter dahl curry and watery fish curry, whereelse Mamak/Indian roti canai are usually tougher more generic (premade commercial dough) with milder dahl curry and thicker fish curry.

It's been a while since i eat warung roti canai. It's different than mamak stall roti canai. The smell also a bit different and it brings me back to my childhood days my father would tapau warung roti canai in the weekend. And kuah kacang dal much better than mamak as mamak dal too watery.
