    I rode a 169 skunk ape the first half of last season. About 25 days. The camber profile was rocker dominant and felt very dead pop-wise. Switched to an 10+ yr old full camber 163 morrow mid season after breaking an edge up on the skunks nose and was a lot happier.
    6'1, 190, 10.5 boot.
    I liked the magna traction and the skunk ape felt stable at speed, but held me back whenever doing freestyle stuff.
    This year im riding a rome freaker 157w fwiw.

    5' 10" fatso here 220lbs Size 13 here and I own the original skunk ape 158. It was my first non traditional camber board. (went from Burton baron 167W) I mostly do groomers. I never got into jibbing or big jumps but I was usually the fastest of my friends. Not because of skill I am just heavy so gravity loves me more. I really enjoy it. I might go with a custom Knapton so I can ride a shallower stance/not toe out.

    I’m 6’6” - 270lbs. Wear a size 15 boot. I got the 2023 model 170UW - my second board after my 2018 nitro prime. First day riding it, stiffer than my first board but I feel better about it at the end of the day than the beginning. Rode on hard packed snow today - riding in looser fluffier snow tomorrow, I think the board will ride better in the looser stuff.

    Have you thought to tame a samsquanch, strap it down to that thing, and watch what happens? Learn its language and ask it the questions you ask yourself for reviews. It is a lot of work but it's for science.

      I had photons + genesis. Photon toe boxes disintegrated between days 35 and 60. The genesis stepon lots bits and the rear toe clips were useless by end of season (70 days). I got a full credit, bought strap photons and they're pretty much like new after 60-65 days... So yeah. I think step in is purely for casuals that skid easy turns... All day... Can afford to replace their kit every 4-5 weeks of use... Or think they're getting value getting one week a season for 4-5 seasons.
      But I ride and carve hard.

    Buddy boarded a week with me last season, first time ever, and now wants a board for this season. He’s 130 lbs, 13.5” foot measurement and if it helps, 6’2”. He’d mostly ride groomers this season and maybe add a little off piste, possibly some back county once he got good enough. Any board recommendations?

    I'm 220 lbs with size 13 boot and already own a 157 Stump Ape and 158 Gnu Gremlin.. I LOVE the Stump Ape. Is it worth picking up a longer Skunk Ape like a 161, 165, or 169? Also with a size 13 boot, not sure if I would want the W (268) or UW (285)?

      Go with it, I am 6'4, 250 and size 14/15 and really like it so far (It is my first own board ever). Rode the board last season first time for a couple of days, still being a beginner/intermediate. Definitely had to get used to its size and learn to control it, it felt considerably bigger than all rentals I had before and harder to control since I had mostly full rocker boards before. However I got used to it very fast and it holds the edge super nice, carving (as much as I can do it with my skill level) feels way more stable and controlled (I have the 170UW, 28.5 waist width).

      As long as you're getting a wide you can do between a 58 and 62ish. For boards to look at Jones Flagship, Ride Berzerker, Korua has some great options as well as Amplid.

      For what its worth, once your get to a certain weight/foot size you might want to consider a full custom board if you have the $
      Prior snowboards out of Canada, Franco Snowshapes out of Wyoming, & Custom Cult out of New Mexico....all are riders and craftsmen, but you'll pay for it.

      I bought Union Atlas bindings last year and they aren’t quite stiff enough but this years are supposed to be stiffer, I can center up and fit my size 14 wide burtons in them. Before that I had ride bindings for over a decade and the baseplates kept bending but they were stiffer. Also! Kindred snowboards from Vancouver Island do custom sizes on all their boards for only $150 extra.

    • @brodiwheeler7583
      @brodiwheeler7583 ปีที่แล้ว

      To my knowledge, this board has the widest waist width of any production at 28.5cm in the UW versions... the Burton Custom tops out at 27.0cm WW in it’s largest sizes. I’m thinking this will be the best option for my 240lb size 12 boot to be able to lay over some deep carves without booting out... but the burton custom camber 170 will also be a good option with the camber helping to prevent some boot out to an extent while carving.

      Never Summer has a bunch of extra wide boards (waist over 275 or 280 mm). They call them DF (drag free), I'm on a Never Summer Nokhu 161 DF - I love it for carving, trees, steeps, side hits/small/medium park hits and general freeride. It's fun switch but it's a directional board so turns are a bit different. 6'5", 215 lbs, 13 shoe, 12 boot. Just a FYI its a 'volume shifted' board so while I would usually ride 167-171 I'm quite happy, even in deep powder, on the 161DF. Also the Ride Warpig goes to a 277 mm waist.
