As hilarious as that was, Josh somehow took that stupid novelty pedal and made something musical with it. I think that's the first time I've seen it used where it didn't come off as terrible and out of place. He made it work

I honestly feel like the Darkglass B7K should be one of the important pedals of the 21th century. It not only give raise to what is now a giant company but also created a whole new era for bass tone.
Darkglass literally made any other bass preamp/drive obsolete in my eyes. I've never had a band situation where it didn't make my tone cut right through. Also it isn't based on any existing distortion circuit, its a completely original design
OD: EQD Plumes - This OD gives a real refreshing take on the TS and brings a more modern sound. Can't get enough of its sound. Fuzz: Big Muff Pi w/tone wicker - Not a fuzz that does anything crazy, but does exactly what I want out of a fuzz. I use the timeline and blue sky. I almost had bought the big sky but for me it seemed like overkill. Strymon are so clean and great if your running in stereo there is no other choice. My favorite effect of all is just a good amp and your fingers!
It would be cool if: JHS made an episode where they went through their pedal suggestions on their website, then asked people to somehow vote on what they would love to see be created out of the top five. Then you can do a limited run and make everybody cry.
Josh, This was my first introduction to Death By Audio. I’d love to see you do a whole episode on their pedals... such a cool company and unusual products. I love it
Loved the video . Also you are really creative in the way you craft your riffs and also the way you present your videos. The paper cutout as a part of the chain was hilarious 😂. All the best team JHS. You rock.
this channel has opened my ears to so much cool stuff. introduced me to new brands and awesome people who make cool stuff but i've gotta say, it's a tie between jhs and boss on my board. 3 of each. a strymon, a walrus, and my volume pedal.
Great pedal, certainly one of the best of the last 20 years. I feel like there should be an expanded version of this list. Maybe2 or 3 more categories and several choices for each. Mel9 would certainly make the cut.
...I think you may need multiple versions of "Am I Gonna Survive" ...like there could be a more metal version for when you're really irked. ...don't mind me backseat YouTubing over here.
Keeley Tone Bender, Neunaber Shimmer stereo pedal, Keeley Two Knob (with two internal knobs) compressor, Rocktron talk box, Digitech whammy IV pedal, TCElectronics chorus/flanger AND TS-9 (post-2000 😆 no one has bettered them🥸 mods/creations on the last two or three). By the way, I see behind you one of the first “multi effects pedal boards“. I bought it when it first came out in 81/82 and it was the only thing I had on the floor for my feet to play with ... for years… Then we got a puppy. It looks very much like my Ibanez UE - 300: TS9, CS9 and a “compressor” that is so noisy it could only be used for a boost pedal for solos! I still use the pedal(s) on almost everything I play (except the compressor ... I am not Joe Pass - though many of my songs have been “passed on” by some of the most famous performers in the world!) and it does a great David Gilmour-esque Overdrive/Chorus sound. ✌🏻💟🏴🇬🇧🇺🇸🏴🎸👨🏼⚕️🎸(you may have the UE - 405…?)

I don't have the sample size of anyone in the video to choose from, but here's my choices at this time: 1. OD - Analogman King of Tone v4. Mine has red side high gain. Excellent overdrive! 2. Fuzz - Union Tube & Transister Tour Bender. It's like a Big Muff and a Bender clone had a baby that cleans up, even with humbuckers. Amazing pedal! 3. Time - Diamond Memory Lane Jr. I can't deal with menus, and this sounds amazing and does everything that I want from a delay while being simple. 4. Mod - Wampler Terraform. Sounds awesome, has every form of modulation I want and is very functional and yes, simple! 5. Comp - Keeley Comp. I almost never use a compressor, but I have played thru a Keeley Compressor and can attest that it adds a little something nice to the signal. 6. Weird - EHX Mini Pog. Not all that weird, because I don't buy anything that I don't think I'll use in a band setting. But, I think it's awesome and you can get some odd synthy sounds out of it.

They could and should do a drum kit rundown video, absolutely! They need to get nerdy with it too. I’m sure there’s a bunch of us here that do both guitar and drums.
Overdrive: Ehx East River Drive (for absolute simplicity, cost effectiveness, and doing that one thing super well) Fuzz: Earthquaker Devices Spires (has not left my board since it released and I’ve put at least 30 other fuzzes up against it by now and none of them make sense to keep on the board because of what the Spires can do) Compression: Keeley Comp (any variant will do, what more could you need out of a compressor?) Modulation: Mr. Black Tunnelworm (never used flange before this pedal but since I’ve had it, I’ve never even considered taking it off my board.) Time: Alexander Oblivion (super underrated pedal. Multi effects device with insane amounts of tweakability, modulation, boost, multi head delay option, etc etc etc it’s amazing) Weird: Catalinbread CSIDMAN (I know it’s technically a delay but this thing is so much more than that. Plus it’s so usable and so unlike anything else out there.) Favorite record of the last two decades: Era Vulgaris by Queens of the Stone Age, because that album literally changed my life and still blows me away to this day.

I think I need to slightly tweak my 2020 practice routine of messing with my pedal board for 2 hours and practicing for 5 minutes.
this times a million.
The drummer's looks during the "Miku" section is priceless!!!
Josh, This was my first introduction to Death By Audio. I’d love to see you do a whole episode on their pedals... such a cool company and unusual products. I love it
Favourite Rock Album of the century: Crack the Skye - Mastodon / Nonagon Infinity - King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard
Favourite Record: We Like It Here - Snarky Puppy
I think 'EHX Freeze' is the most used pedal for experimental sounds.
Korg Miku Stomp... Nuff said
'Weee ohhhh doooo paaaa!'
1. DRV, 1981 Inventions
2. Muffuletta, JHS
3. Volante, Strymon
4. Waterfall, JAM Pedals
5. Cali 76 Stacked, Origin Effects
6. Enzo, Meris
Weird pedal fro me is the Mel 9. I had to put a doggy shock collar on it so I didn't use it on everything.
Mel9 is the next pedal I'm buying. Heard some great sounds with it on Acoustic recently that shot it up to the top of my list.
Great pedal, certainly one of the best of the last 20 years. I feel like there should be an expanded version of this list. Maybe2 or 3 more categories and several choices for each. Mel9 would certainly make the cut.
Another fun show. I recently upgraded my tv speakers and it’s so nice to hear your jams sounding as they should. You guys get great sounds.

OD: King of Tone
Fuzz: Hoof
Time: El Cap (strymon)
Modulation: Julia (Walrus)
Compressor: Ego (Wampler)
...I think you may need multiple versions of "Am I Gonna Survive" ...like there could be a more metal version for when you're really irked. ...don't mind me backseat YouTubing over here.
Or a "the post office lost my pedal" track
Overdrive/distortion: OCD
Fuzz: Ehx green russian Big Muff reissue
Time: Boss dm2-w
Modulation: JHS 3 series chorus
Compression: Keeley compressor
Other/weird: Miku Stomp
Holysmokes! I forgot about the OCD - it's been huge for so long I thought it was from the 80's or 90's. But you're right - released in early 2000's

Boss E.Q. Is maybe the best “Push the amp” pedal I have. Opinion of course, but throwing that out there.
That's the way dimebag pushed his amps!
MXR 6 Band is my EQ of choice but you’re right that its extremely useful!
I had more luck pushing amps with an old Boss GE-7 than any drive pedal
Overdrive/ Dist:
EQD Plumes
Fuzz:
Keeley Fuzz Bender
Time:
EHX Canyon/ Grand Canyon
Mod:
JHS Emperor V2
Comp:
Walrus Audio Deep Six
Other/ Weird:
Keeley Synth-1
OD: Boss Angry Driver
Fuzz: DOD Carcosa
Comp: SP Comp
Time: Strymon El Capistan

Time: El Capistan
Modulation: Warped Vinyl
Compression: Deep Six
Other/Weird: M O O D
Record: You Are My Sunshine by Copeland
ALL CANADIAN LIST! (I might have chosen differently if I included other countries, but just look at these pedals and tell me that Canada hasn't killed it in the last twenty years!)
Fuzz: SolidGoldFX Lysis
Compressor: Diamond Compressor
Overdrive/Distortion: Dr. Scientist The Elements
Time: Montreal Assembly Count to Five
Modulation: Fairfield Circuitry Shallow Waters
Weird: Empress Effects ZOIA
Nice choices
Josh: Which of these pedals do you like most?
me: yes.
Brother bought me the Tumnus Deluxe for xmas. Totally blown away. Has me looking at some other pedals that are just dying to be replaced
Interesting snare drum mic technique! Sounds great!
Overdrive: King of Tone by Analogman
Fuzz: Mini Fuzz Si by King Tone
Time: Deep Blue Delay by Mad Professor
Modulation: Bi-Chorus by Analogman

Best record of past 20 years. .. .The Empyrean, John Frusciante
One of the things I love about this channel are the jams! You guys are always jamming out!
I totally agree with Josh.. the DD20 is my all time favorite delay pedal. I like the sound of Boss Digital delays. It may not be as powerful as the timeline, but it is just right for me
OD: SD-1 Waza
Fuzz: EQD Life Pedal
Time: EHX Memory Man with Hazarai
Modulation: EHX Freeze
Weird: EQD Bit Commander
Love the Life Pedal.
Did not expect Morning Phase. What an amazing album. Literally changed my life.
Same! One of my all-time favorites
Strymon Big Sky - it's an Inspiration machine, and an instrument unto itself. I am blown away every-time I use mine = Game changer.
Overdrive: Mad Professor Sweet Honey
Fuzz: Wren & Cuff De La Riva
Space: Walrus Slo
Modulation: Boss CE-2W
Compression: Boss CP-1X
Weird: Earthquaker Arpeggiator
I don't have the sample size of anyone in the video to choose from, but here's my choices at this time:
Favourite Record of the last 20 years = 'A Deeper Understanding' by The War on Drugs
OD: Keeley Red Dirt
Time: Neunaber Immerse
Modulation: Walrus Descent
Compression: Keeley
Other/Weird: Mel9
Overdrive/Distortion: Origin Effects Revivaldrive
Fuzz: Spaceman Sputnik (Version 1)
Time: Eventide Space
Modulation: Caroline Somersault
Compression: Origin Effects Cali76 Compact Deluxe
Other/Weird: Catalinbread Csidman
Great picks
@@bipbipletucha Thanks Mate
Do you actually have a cali76? I really want one.
@@yoursensei8837 Yes i've been an owner of a Cali76 compact since 2019. It ended my quest for a compressor. Absolutely first class pedals.
I own (or have owned) all the pedals in my list ;)
@@enricopallazzo8510 well dammit now I have to buy one.
Excellent utilization of the pedals in show and awesome drum grooves. This is certainly one of my favorite episodes so far. Thanks for what you guys do.
On the first jam when you went with only the Vox MkII it was an amazing fuzz tone. Adding the Timmy boosted it up.
1. JHS Crayon
2. Mid-fi Demo Tape Fuzz
3. Boss DD-8
4. Strymon DECO
5. Origin Cali 76
6. EQD Rainbow Machine
Album: IDLES - Joy As An Act Of Resistance
The Deco is hands down the best pedal of the last 20 years
1. Analogman King of Tone
2. Analogman Sunface (NKT version came out in 2002)
3. Catalinbread Belle Epoch
4. Neo Instruments Mini Vent
5. Keeley Compressor
6. JHS Crayon
OD: Mid Fi Electronics Magick "i"
Fuzz: Thorpy FX Veteran SI
Time: Boss DD7
Modulation: Strymon Mobius
Other: Red Panda Tensor
Record:Thrice - Artist in The Ambulance / Jason Isbell - Southeastern
No other channel makes me smile as much as this one :) Great stuff.
different locations and settings in a JHS video: here's the room where I have every pedal ever made. here's the room where I have every vinyl ever pressed. here's the room where I have every boutique amplifier ever produced.
We demand Nick's Picks (for Pedals of the Century)!
for some reason, i’m more interested in that snare tone 😅
What is that drumset? It sounds so damn good
f**k yeah! I noticed it too! ) Sounds great!
They could and should do a drum kit rundown video, absolutely! They need to get nerdy with it too. I’m sure there’s a bunch of us here that do both guitar and drums.
Oh, favorite record:
Elephant by The White Stripes
Excellent choice!
Drum tones are f!@#$%g stellar!
Overdrive: Ehx East River Drive (for absolute simplicity, cost effectiveness, and doing that one thing super well)
Fuzz: Earthquaker Devices Spires (has not left my board since it released and I’ve put at least 30 other fuzzes up against it by now and none of them make sense to keep on the board because of what the Spires can do)
Compression: Keeley Comp (any variant will do, what more could you need out of a compressor?)
Modulation: Mr. Black Tunnelworm (never used flange before this pedal but since I’ve had it, I’ve never even considered taking it off my board.)
Time: Alexander Oblivion (super underrated pedal. Multi effects device with insane amounts of tweakability, modulation, boost, multi head delay option, etc etc etc it’s amazing)
Weird: Catalinbread CSIDMAN (I know it’s technically a delay but this thing is so much more than that. Plus it’s so usable and so unlike anything else out there.)
Favorite record of the last two decades: Era Vulgaris by Queens of the Stone Age, because that album literally changed my life and still blows me away to this day.
are we just not going to talk about how awesome that BILT guitar is?
I guess it was BILT by professionals...
Albim: Them Crooked Vultures
I never comment. But today I need to, because I miss one pedal here, that nobody mentioned: The Strymon Deco!
This is extreme and debatable but it serves to make my point, that this pedal is absolutely fabulous:
OD: Deco
Time: Deco
Modulation: Deco
(subtle) Compression: Deco
Wierd(ish): Deco
Fuzz: DBA Fuzz Gun (certainly not the Deco 😋)
Damn what a sound around the 5min mark.
This is insane. (Guitar looks and sound killer)
Great great Guitar playing as well.
The Knowledge , the love for Music, the humor and the playing is what makes this channel outstanding.
Better than almost all the other guitar besed channels.
Please never change anything.
Subscribed !!
This was a truly great episode. Clear, informative, concise, funny. Streets ahead of all the waffle out there. The jams were excellent - get a singer and some words and you have instant albums. Thanks!
EQD Dispatch Master. That’s why there was one on EVERYONE’s board for about five years.
I'm at 17:00 waiting for Josh to say that all his picks are from the new JHS 3 series.
I would love to hear 'Freebird" and 'Sweet child of mine' with the Miku
I tried sweet child with a miku...it's the absolute definitive version
The long outro of Freebird being "sung" by an anime character 😂
1. Overdrive: EHX Soul Food. So good, so simple and sounds great. Accessible.
2. Fuzz: EQD Spires. Double fuzz greatness.
3. Time: Meris Polymoon. No other stereo sound like it. So tweakable, vast and truly unique in how it incorporates phaser. No one does it like Meris, my fave pedal maker as it currently stands.
4. Modulation: Meris Hedra. Surprise, more Meris. Rhythmic pitch shifting? Yes please.
5. Compression: Keeley. Same as so many in this video lmao.
6. Other/weird: Hologram Microcosm. Just came out it feels like, but makes it in time to work on this list. Mark my words, we're going to be hearing this thing's granular sampling mark on many corners of music just like the DL4 made its impact felt. Feels like a musical cheat code in the best way. I feel so fortunate to own one.
1) Tumnus Deluxe - Wampler
2) Ram's Head Big Muff reissue - EHX
3) El Capistan - Strymon
4) The Emperor V2 - JHS
5) Deep Six - Walrus
6) Randy's Revenge - Fairfield Circuitry (this one would also win in the Modulation category, it's just awesome)
----
Record: The Sane Day by Beardfish. Just like Josh's pick, it's not my favorite, that's an impossible task to do, but this is probably the overall most influential record for me, in the past 20 years.
Great episode, cheers!
Best record: The Raconteurs - Consolers of the Lonely
