As a musician who was born in 1973...my parents were gracious enough to share their experiences stories and above all this wonderful gift of music with me...I jammed it all from DELTA BLUES to COUNTRY to DOO WOP to ROCK N ROLL...I now have a steady gig in two bands...I'm a drummer in a heavy metal band called CAIN RESURRECTION and THE FOUNDING MEMBER and GUITARIST of a heavy blues BAND I named after the address of where I grew up called 1016...in which I use every ounce of experience and inspiration to write our material. The reason why I share this with you is that anyone who says "this is real music" or saying that something isn't real music...is obviously a person who isn't a real fan of music at all...just a closed minded individual who has a snobby personality and will argue that their time was better than the times of today. I love the music that came from the days of ROBERT JOHNSON, ELVIS PRESLEY, SISTER ROSETTA THARP, JIMI HENDRIX, AND SO ON, but truth be told...those time periods weren't really that great. Does anyone remember the LYNCHINGS??? EXACTLY!!!
FRANKIE LIVES ON !!!!!! THIS IS HIM JUST HOW HE WOULD HAVE BEEN ! WHAT A WONDERFUL TRIBUTE TO SUCH BRILLIANT TALENT THAT WAS PREMATURELY TAKEN FROM US .........
Rest in peace Louy Lymon.I wanted to meet you and talk about your brother, Frankie. But, I did not get the chance, it would have been an honor. I thank you and Frankie for what you both gave to us!
that is so sad; i went to school with him at ps 169 in upper manhattan in the 1950's; we were in 1st grade together and one day for "show and tell" he went to the front of the room and sang "goodie goodie" and then showed the teacher and all of us the gold record of his brother frankie, since the song had just gone gold. He was a very nice guy to be with.
Frankie was only two years older than Lewis. You're confusing him with someone else. Goody Goody was released as a single in 1957. Lewis was already recording with the Teenchords by this time as a 13 year old.
I discovered Lewis Lymon back around 2003 on a 10 CD set called "The Best of Doo Wop".This was a killer collection put out by Collectibles.Lewis Lymon recorded for Bobby Robinson who had Fury Records. They had a killer rhythm section and tenor player behind them. That CD set is at Amazon.
The fellow who introduced Lews Lymom a was Bobby Jay. Bobby well known in the NYC as a DJ on WCBS-FM 101.1 for years. He sings as a member of the Teenagers at oldies shows. Sometimes the Lewis Lymon lead is performed by Tiny Tim. No, not the one that immediately comes to mind, but the performer on another dowop classic, Wedding Bells. (Tiny Tim and the Hits)
I heard this on the Google Chromebook commercial and thought it was Frankie, until I looked it up and found out it was his brother. It's good and sad at the same time. Sad because they look and sound alike, especially on the original recording, so it reminds me how Frankie left us at such a young age and never got to share his gift with later generations, but good because because they look and sound so similar, it's almost as if Frankie Lymon was still here. Thanks for the upload,
Thanks Cookie for the info and you singing this song back then. Yes we all wish sometimes we could go back to those days. That is something we never forget.
Bobby Jay! Not only a great bass singer and a member of the Legendary Teenagers, but he also sang with the Laddins, and was an on-air DJ for many years on WCBS-FM 101.1 ! Used to listen to him every night in the CBS-FM Hall of Fame and Friday Night 50's!
This group sounds great here. Frankie Lymon was as talented as Michael Jackson. Unfortunately, he was a victim of the music business in the early days of R'n'R and ended up a tragic figure. Every artist today needs to know who Frankie Lyman was. He paved the way for their careers. Lewis seems like a good guy, and sounds a lot like his brother, which is a good thing.
Glad to see his still Rocking. Got to see him perform in Vegas a couple of years ago. Super nice guy. Bobby Jay who introduced him here, cut his share of vocal gems back in the 50's with his own group The Laddins.
That looks like Jimmy Castor of the Jimmy Castor Bunch in the middle. I remember he had a nice hit with Troglodyte in the early 70's. I once heard him say in an interview that from time to time he would stand in for Frankie when he was unavailable and the audience never knew the difference.
I allAys did like frankie i had graduated when that song came out why did fools fall in love his bro to had a good voice to sing .they was a hot group.
Also in this video group is the late Jimmy Castor of the Jimmy Castor Bunch who wrote "Promise to be True" by Frankie Lymon... RIP guys, NYC forever!!!
DOOWOP TRB how did Timothy die, and how old was the sister?? Is the dad or anyone still alive?? I’ve been searching, but can’t find anything! Did Lewis have any kids?
Thanks for this upload! This is the one of the only performances I can find from Lewis Lymon after the 1970s. Interesting to hear him now that his voice has fully matured.
Excellent, Nothing like a kids voice doing this song, however Lewis did a heck of a job here, I love that mature sounding voice of expierience. Great performance. ( I did a few shows with The Teenagers and one show Lewis was with them)
@Love4FrankieLymon Lewis, indeed, did at least one record that I know of - an updated CD of his greatest hits - with a contemporary flavor, and of course, the adult voice register you hear on this clip. It was released on Mad Hands (Hands On) Records in 1999, I believe. If it's not on Amazon, check the label's website - madhands-dot-com
I was in the Navy with Lewis and later met up with him in Pawling New York when he was singing with the Drifters
How the hell could 36 people give him thumbs down ? Unreal .Love you Lewis ! You are real doo wop .

Lewis/Frankie... Thank you for getting me addicted to Doo Wop - Rock & Roll. Rest in peace.
Lewis made some really great records in his own right, so I'm glad to see that time has been kind to him. Bless you Lewis.
I'm from Soundview and we used to sing on the corner of Boynton & Watson Aves. I agree - great times!
