  • Texas LEOs Josh and Bill show don't wear seatbelts in this episode of The Rookie!
    Ask us questions on our livestreams every Tuesday and Thursday at 7:30pm CST right here on this channel.
    "Crash Course" is the second episode of the first season on The Rookie.
    Jackson is questioned as to why he didn't fire his weapon during a previous firefight, but Lopez covers for him. Chen is stuck with a temporary training officer whose style is more cautious than Tim, who is recovering from being shot. Nolan continues to face difficulties in navigating between his civilian instincts and how they affect his actions as a cop. He and Bishop are assigned a rusty old car as Nolan's punishment for damaging their vehicle. Chen finds out that Tim intentionally got her assigned to a more passive T.O. to test her commitment. Bishop is able to get a new patrol vehicle, which Nolan nearly crashes on his first drive.
    The Rookie is an American police procedural crime drama television series created for ABC by Alexi Hawley. The series follows John Nolan, a man in his forties, who becomes the oldest rookie at the Los Angeles Police Department. The series is based on real-life Los Angeles Police Department officer William Norcross, who moved to Los Angeles in 2015 and joined the department in his mid-40s.
    The series stars Nathan Fillion, Alyssa Diaz, Richard T. Jones, Titus Makin Jr., Mercedes Mason, Melissa O'Neil, Afton Williamson, Mekia Cox, Shawn Ashmore and Eric Winter.

    I think Nolan's TO was not questioning his courage when she said that he might not be ready for when they find the suspect. She was worried thay he would do exactly what he did, forgetting to secure the scene because he's prioritizing on giving the victim comfort.

    The Scissor lift scene is based off of a real police stop. You can watch the entire thing on youtube, its hilarious. In the real story its a worker who is clearly intoxicated and is actually sitting on a pack of beer as hes driving his scissor lift to the home depot to buy more supplies. When the cop asks him to come down he raises the scissor lift, and keeps sayin no. Then the fire department comes out and they drain the hydraulics and drop his lift.

    What I like about "The Rookie" is that despite it being a show, things that could happen to Nolan could and will happen to cops one way or another. Like in this scene, finding a dead guy and someone who stabbed someone to death in a swoop as a rookie, absolutely accurate.
    Friend was a cop and once he finished his academy, he was assigned to traffic. During his 3rd day as a cop, he had to set up a roadblock during the middle of the night for a routine check during a festive day.
    Guy came upon the roadblock drunk and out of panic, he sped off thru the roadblock, hitting multiple officers. Friend gave chase with 2 other units and found that the guy crashed his car just 5 blocks away and managed to find the driver and his passengers, 1 male and 1 female all hiding under a staircase. Searched driver's slingbag and found a bloodied knuckle duster. Snr.Sgt interrogated him on the spot and driver blurted out that he punched someone at the back alley of the club that they went to prior to the roadblock and left the area when the other guy wasn't responding to their taunts post-attack.
    Other units went over to find the victim and he had severe injuries from that and by the time he went to the hospital, he was declared vegetative from brain damage. Imagine being a cop on the 1st week and you already seen shit like that.

      From your first to your last day as an officer ANYTHING can and will happen, it's both the best and worst part of the job. I've had a month where nothing happens and a shift with 3 uses of force and a pursuit. It's definitely not for the faint of heart.

But Nolan turns out to be an outstanding cop and the Watch captain is actually a likeable character, I JUST started watching this show. I'm hooked. on season 3. lmao Nolan gets A LOT of OJT. The term "the shop" is often used by LAPD officers to refer to their patrol vehicle. This term is derived from the use of the vehicle as a tool for their work, similar to how a mechanic might refer to their workshop as
      "the shop." It reflects the close association between the officers and their vehicles, emphasizing the practical and functional nature of the vehicle in their daily duties.

      In the world of law enforcement, rookie cops are often referred to as "boots." This nickname has been around for decades and has become a common term used to describe newly graduated officers who are fresh out of the police academy. The origin of this term can be traced back to the military, where new recruits were referred to as "boots" due to their clean, shiny boots that had yet to be scuffed or worn down. Similarly, rookie cops are labeled as "boots" because they are new to the field and still have a lot to learn. This term is not meant to belittle or demean these officers, but rather to acknowledge their inexperience and remind them that they have much to prove and many lessons to learn. Being called a "boot" serves as a reminder that they are starting from scratch and must work hard to gain the respect and trust of their fellow officers and the communities they serve.

    Best cop scene involving a potential suicide from a multistorey carpark was in a English cop show called 'SCOTT & BAILEY' while the empathetic cop tried talking to the desperate man/woman from a few feet away, her partner would grab her jacket every time she made a move toward the jumper, preventing her from killing herself if the jumper went for it.

Storytelling is gritty, centered around two female cops (not winning every case but doing a difficult job), more along the lines of THE WIRE and HILL STREET BLUES. 60% criminal investigations and 400% about their home life and family, especially their family and friends who are unawares of the pressures or fulfillment of the job... and don't realise that home is supposed to be welcoming and not another pressure point.

    doesn't he have to be P.I.T. certified? maybe not all agencies, but definitely the LAPD

    • @OnlyCops
      @OnlyCops  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Most officers don't get PIT certified right out of the academy. But I bet LAPD does do that for their recruits

    I have a theory why The Rookie Uses terms like Shop and Boot. It’s most likely since the writers and actors went through LAPD training it may be a way to drop fake bits in case someone tries to impersonate a cop.🤷🏽‍♀️

    • @OnlyCops
      @OnlyCops  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There is definitely a lot of inspiration from the LAPD and fortunately for us all, outing a fake cop is pretty easy for law enforcement, but on the civilian side of things I could definitely see it being a cause for alarm/worry.

    Why hit Nolan in the back of the head when he could have just shot him in the back.
