I hope the following suggestions will help your store do better: 1- Change the background color, I find white work the best. 2- Add a hero section on the home page describing the store or the goal behind it in a sentence like; Don't miss the old days anymore, feeling nostalgic well don't be ... something like that with a background of a retro photo of old ads or brand names 3- In the product page, either remove the background of the photos or make the page background white. Try to use fewer fonts if possible. 4- In your ads, the link you give to influencer should be a product page, not your home page - if you're not already doing that. Try to make the add itself not like an ad For example, instead of a bunch of photos of the t-shirts, post a few memes or something related to the design then the photo of your t-shirt. Just advertise for one design at a time and let your product page do the rest of cross-selling. Like that you're gonna get better engagement with your ads and hopefully higher conversion rate. I drove nearly 3000 visitors to my website in the first few days but only made 2 sales. The targeting, interest, and demographics were very precise and I've been frustrated wondering if the problem was the product or was I just doing something wrong. That's how I landed on this video. You should check the previous comment i left, its not your website, or your designs. Its the fact that a buyer will not trust to open their wallet that easy for an unknown company. Best of luck to you toó!
Your problem likely was that you didn’t choose a niche that is super passionate about the subject matter. People are passionate about things related to their hobbies, professions, families. In order to succeed with FB ads you need enough passion to create impulse buys. No one will want to buy from a random website selling some unknown brand unless the design directly speaks to their passions. Like this nostalgic niche - its cute but there is no passion for it. Compare it with putting a photo and name of someone’s dog that just died on a mug - people will instantly feel emotional and buy that for themselves or gifts.

I’ve been using print on demand for the apparel side of my brand TacoGear.com and using Printful since 2014. You definitely don’t suck, it just takes a lot more work to build up that brand. An Instagram and social media presence helps tremendously. Your brand has big potential with what you’ve started after some adjustments, etc.

This is an incredibly good video showcasing how difficult it is to make money doing this. In too many instances I heard people say they would make 15-30k a year using dropshipping etc. I made a video for those people a while ago (I train data analists) to show them what it takes to setup shopify and contrado, and how fulfillment by Amazon works. Your video dives deeper in the overall process, so I'm going to share this with them as well. Good job Daniel.
If you end up putting the designs on Redbubble, I'd love to see an update video on that! I've had a Redbubble shop for over a year--mostly just as a creative outlet for myself, but I recently started putting effort into it during quarantine. I love watching videos about other people's experiences with print on demand! So interesting! Love your designs!

Great video. You're almost there. Taking action is the biggest first step. If you got sales from FB ads, you're on your way. It is a volume thing. The margins on t-shirts is too small to make it work with Facebook Ads now. Other better print on demand products are out there. Great video. It shows that not everything works but keep at it and you'll succeed. :)

Yeah, but that would also king of defeat the purpose of the video, because you are basically adding a new demographic which is "Daniel's youtube following". And that's something that most people interested in starting a business like this don't have.

I know this is an older video, but I still wanted to leave a comment. I've been watching your stuff as of late since I found your channel and your calm and smooth delivery on your videos is a pleasure to watch. Plus the content has been great. Your videos are top notch, to the point, but you still manage to bring so much flavor and information to what you're doing. Keep it up! Now for some thoughts I had watching this one. The main take away I would put out there as a consumer is I have never paid $30 dollars for a tee shirt. I'm sure people do, and I wound if it just wow'ed me. Now that being said when totally love the design on usually licensed stuff I've paid like $25 at most which I imagine would be harder with a non licensed store. All in all is not far off from that $30 dollar price tag. I'm definitely not a business owner, or a business professional but if you could manage to lower cost to the consumer and cut the ADs cost somewhere in the long run I would think you would definitely sell more. I guess that's the question though... even over a long haul would the sales make up for for ADs and other service fees to keep the site running while still making a little profit? Great video either way!
To be fair the designs were extremely lackluster and cliche but i admire you consistently trying over and over again and most of all being happy with what you made (the shirt) .

Great idea to use Facebook and Instagram ads, though from an advertiser’s perspective, I do find that these are much better for generating awareness first. Not that you can’t make sales from Facebook ads, it’s just generally a little broader. Facebook groups are an interesting method to try out, but of course it’s not as passive as I’d like, since it does require some management of questions/messages. What I would say, is try to use Google Ads. Though more expensive probably, google ads would probably help a little better. Search ads for your website, and then maybe display ads or even google shopping ads, might get you a higher conversion. :) Anyways, awesome video! Been a fan of Mango Street for years and really enjoying what you’re doing in this new channel. Love the effort you’re putting in these, and I really enjoy all the content you’ve put out. 🙌🏼

Hi Daniel, I just discovered you yesterday and have been binge-watching the Anti-Guru! I, too, just launched a store last month and can relate to the overwhelm. But the opportunity to start a brand without much monetary investment is pretty cool. I have been using a mix of print-on-demand apps to avoid being limited by just one POD's product offerings. I agree that in the end, it's all about marketing, so it was really interesting to hear about your paid ad experience. Thank you for going deep!
Hi Daniel please dont feel bad, i follow another pod youtuber and he is also a web developer and he close his shopify store as well because he said that even though his designs and website were great he couldnt make people open the wallet and purchase because its an unknown brand. However in his Merch by Amazon pod store he is having a lot of success because people already trust Amazon and they dont hesitate on pulling their wallet out and shop away. I think your designs are pretty cool, the concept is great, i am sure your talent will have a lot of value in one of the POD platforms. Best of luck!

A lot of scams that wanna make you buy in their idea of making money super fast, super easily. It's great that you share your steps and the reeal profits you made. Got a new subscriber ;)
Nice review bruh! I also tried doing this same thing selling print on demand shirts 3 years ago with shopify and teespring. Total profit was about $100 minus expense. I end up closing all my online stores due to too much wasted time and not enough passive income. I think print on demand is overly flooded nowadays and not worth the investment and time.
I love that you're not only creating videos that ended up being a success. This one at least made my mind up about just using Society6 and Redbubble because they already have an organic fan base. Also I think in order for someone to purchase print on demand products they have to really be invested in the creator/brand.
A very nice and fresh format on trying these 'how to make money online'. You offer a realistic view on what could happen If an person tries to start a POD site. No BS and No promises of getting rich quick.

Great video! I created a POD site selling tshirts years ago (before it was popular). I had 3 customers total after months of work. My best customer purchased 3 shirts that said "I was polled by Frank Luntz" who is a political pollster pundit. It was Frank Luntz who purchased those three shirts :)
loved the video! you could try opening an Etsy shop and integrate printful. This worked much better for me instead of having a shopify site. I had one sale on shopify and decided to open an Etsy with the same designs and within a week had sales going.
Very interesting look at this. I was weighing up this Shopify + Printful combo against Redbubble and ended up going with Redbubble. I guess at least you don't have the upfront costs. Plus you have their audience as they get a large amount of traffic. But I think I've made around $5 so far 😅
If I were you, I'd look into doing something like learning how to make a sales funnel. I'm sure you know what it is, but I've been working through a marketing book called "Marketing Made Simple" by Donald Miller and a lot of it is working to get your potential clients/customers to trust you. Its based off his previous book "StoryBrand," where you are playing as a guide in helping people through their own story. I'd go into it further, but I'm in the middle of building my wedding film company entire off this model, and I was thinking about starting a print on demand to do something similar. I recommend BOTH of those books, I think they can help with ANY business (I'm not a salesperson for them, I just like them a ton). That was "StoryBrand" and "Marketing Made Simple" by Donald Miller.

Awesome and very helpful video, I’ve been wanting to set up a print on demand but realised it’s pretty much like starting a brand and you really have to promote it hard with PR and celebrity endorsements. That’s when the orders will start coming in! Be interesting to see how it does on red bubble, hope to see that video soon.

Very interesting, I've had similar results with starting online businesses. I think that there is for sure a point where it may not be the best spend of time or funds to keep going, but that being said i'm sure anyone could turn most online businesses into becoming profitable with enough effort or funds.
This a GREAT video. The content is very high quality and informative. Personally, I didn't dare to step foot into the POD business until I had a plan to generate traffic and sales for free, largely dependent on the POD websites themselves doing the advertising. Like you said, it eliminates that upfront overhead. It will probably be slower at first, but better than feeling like I've started with a penalty.
I have been debating whether or not to spend the little extra cash on Facebook / Instagram ads for my clothing brand (it's not print on demand - I actually create and sew everything) but thankful for your insight on how effective they were! Might have to consider spending the big bucks and bite the bullet on influencer marketing.

I'm a graphic designer, selling online since 2011, marketing skills, I also have the equipment to produce t-shirts in-house, and even then I do not sell on-demand. I don't like the clothing niche, many factors, sizes, colors, styles, not to mention "graphics". It is a lot of wear and tears not counting the competition. I prefer other niches that now a day generates $20K a month (average), enough to not have a job spot or schedules. Great video!!! It's the reality of those who enter the business without being a graphic designer, which in my opinion is the spine.

Great video. Shame you made few sales but I guess the name of this game is testing - especially when there's so many different variables, with one of the main ones being the t-shirt designs. I thought they were cool but the pricing was too high - is that the same for all these POD stores?

Would be interested in a video on how you design YT / FB / Instagram ads specifically to stand out & promote a product or service, (or possibly one that shows A/B testing of photo/video ads you design to determine effectiveness) and how you negotiate with popular IG or Tiktok channels for placement & pricing. Something probably not a lot of new or smaller brands have familiarity with. Thanks!
You can still make good money, all you need to do is work with a local printer that does DTG and shipping. Online print on demand is not worth it unless you have a massive following. Also, another thing you can do is build up a brand that you can just release a certain amount like 6 designs per season, build the hype then release date and from there you will be able to tell how many people would be interested in buying. My customers usually do pre-sale so they know how much order they need to make from me, and yes starting a brand is hard its best to start within your capability meaning people like friends family, etc to have them buy some so that you can get that real review and real images from them posting on their social media thus earning the trust of others that your brand is real, legit, and others will follow.
Pricing is definitely a tad high! Upload your designs for free to Tee-spring, Redbubble and Merch by Amazon for free traffic. Would LOVE an update video afterwards. If in doubt or want some advice, watch Greg Gottfried videos or maybe even a co lab? Good luck! Very exciting! Extremely well put together video. Can't criticize it one bit. keep it up!
very good insight thanks. I'm just about to start my own journey. I've watched several content providers who claim to make $1000''s per day selling tees, but the only links you'll see on their videos are links to buy 3rd party materials or services ( no links to their own store or merch collection). I reckon there are a few people pretending to make big money who are really being paid by the 3rd party suppliers to fake a lifestyle and income in order to promote the 3rd party products and services ( no tees actually being sold)
I would just start by using a few print on demand sites and upload in all of them instead of your own shop. I would only use shopify if there's like grand idea that has big research behind it and branding. Use free advertising like instagram, facebook, pinterest and maybe pay some influencers but nothing more. It will take time but just consistent interaction and new designs will eventually make you some sales! I'm no expert and pretty new to pod but i think i finally found a perfect niche that is not also less competitive but fits my own personality!

But the opportunity to start a brand without much monetary investment is pretty cool. I have been using a mix of print-on-demand apps to avoid being limited by just one POD's product offerings. Hi Daniel please dont feel bad, i follow another pod youtuber and he is also a web developer and he close his shopify store as well because he said that even though his designs and website were great he couldnt make people open the wallet and purchase because its an unknown brand. However in his Merch by Amazon pod store he is having a lot of success because people already trust Amazon and they dont hesitate on pulling their wallet out and shop away. I think your designs are pretty cool, the concept is great, i am sure your talent will have a lot of value in one of the POD platforms. Best of luck!

Nice review bruh! I also tried doing this same thing selling print on demand shirts 3 years ago with shopify and teespring. Total profit was about $100 minus expense. I end up closing all my online stores due to too much wasted time and not enough passive income. I think print on demand is overly flooded nowadays and not worth the investment and time.

I love that you're not only creating videos that ended up being a success. This one at least made my mind up about just using Society6 and Redbubble because they already have an organic fan base. Also I think in order for someone to purchase print on demand products they have to really be invested in the creator/brand.

Great video! I created a POD site selling tshirts years ago (before it was popular). I had 3 customers total after months of work. My best customer purchased 3 shirts that said "I was polled by Frank Luntz" who is a political pollster pundit. It was Frank Luntz who purchased those three shirts :)

loved the video! you could try opening an Etsy shop and integrate printful. This worked much better for me instead of having a shopify site. I had one sale on shopify and decided to open an Etsy with the same designs and within a week had sales going.

Very interesting look at this. I was weighing up this Shopify + Printful combo against Redbubble and ended up going with Redbubble. I guess at least you don't have the upfront costs. Plus you have their audience as they get a large amount of traffic. But I think I've made around $5 so far 😅
If I were you, I'd look into doing something like learning how to make a sales funnel. I'm sure you know what it is, but I've been working through a marketing book called "Marketing Made Simple" by Donald Miller and a lot of it is working to get your potential clients/customers to trust you. Its based off his previous book "StoryBrand," where you are playing as a guide in helping people through their own story. I'd go into it further, but I'm in the middle of building my wedding film company entire off this model, and I was thinking about starting a print on demand to do something similar. I recommend BOTH of those books, I think they can help with ANY business (I'm not a salesperson for them, I just like them a ton). That was "StoryBrand" and "Marketing Made Simple" by Donald Miller.
Site looked great. Though, the prices were outrageously high for a new, unrecognized brand.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I have considered this in the past but I feel the Tshirt bubble burst a few years ago. so many Tshirts for sale and low margins as you say, not ideal. Kudos for sharing all your hard work.

Awesome and very helpful video, I’ve been wanting to set up a print on demand but realised it’s pretty much like starting a brand and you really have to promote it hard with PR and celebrity endorsements. That’s when the orders will start coming in! Be interesting to see how it does on red bubble, hope to see that video soon.

Very interesting, I've had similar results with starting online businesses. I think that there is for sure a point where it may not be the best spend of time or funds to keep going, but that being said i'm sure anyone could turn most online businesses into becoming profitable with enough effort or funds.

This a GREAT video. The content is very high quality and informative. Personally, I didn't dare to step foot into the POD business until I had a plan to generate traffic and sales for free, largely dependent on the POD websites themselves doing the advertising. Like you said, it eliminates that upfront overhead. It will probably be slower at first, but better than feeling like I've started with a penalty.

I have been debating whether or not to spend the little extra cash on Facebook / Instagram ads for my clothing brand (it's not print on demand - I actually create and sew everything) but thankful for your insight on how effective they were! Might have to consider spending the big bucks and bite the bullet on influencer marketing.

I'm a graphic designer, selling online since 2011, marketing skills, I also have the equipment to produce t-shirts in-house, and even then I do not sell on-demand. I don't like the clothing niche, many factors, sizes, colors, styles, not to mention "graphics". It is a lot of wear and tears not counting the competition. I prefer other niches that now a day generates $20K a month (average), enough to not have a job spot or schedules. Great video!!! It's the reality of those who enter the business without being a graphic designer, which in my opinion is the spine.

Great video. Shame you made few sales but I guess the name of this game is testing - especially when there's so many different variables, with one of the main ones being the t-shirt designs. I thought they were cool but the pricing was too high - is that the same for all these POD stores?

Video idea for you - you mentioned the FB ad you designed but don't think you showed that.
Would be interested in a video on how you design YT / FB / Instagram ads specifically to stand out & promote a product or service,
(or possibly one that shows A/B testing of photo/video ads you design to determine effectiveness)
and how you negotiate with popular IG or Tiktok channels for placement & pricing.
Something probably not a lot of new or smaller brands have familiarity with. Thanks!
You can still make good money, all you need to do is work with a local printer that does DTG and shipping. Online print on demand is not worth it unless you have a massive following. Also, another thing you can do is build up a brand that you can just release a certain amount like 6 designs per season, build the hype then release date and from there you will be able to tell how many people would be interested in buying.
My customers usually do pre-sale so they know how much order they need to make from me, and yes starting a brand is hard its best to start within your capability meaning people like friends family, etc to have them buy some so that you can get that real review and real images from them posting on their social media thus earning the trust of others that your brand is real, legit, and others will follow.
Pricing is definitely a tad high!
Upload your designs for free to Tee-spring, Redbubble and Merch by Amazon for free traffic.

very good insight thanks. I'm just about to start my own journey. I've watched several content providers who claim to make $1000''s per day selling tees, but the only links you'll see on their videos are links to buy 3rd party materials or services ( no links to their own store or merch collection). I reckon there are a few people pretending to make big money who are really being paid by the 3rd party suppliers to fake a lifestyle and income in order to promote the 3rd party products and services ( no tees actually being sold)

I would just start by using a few print on demand sites and upload in all of them instead of your own shop. I would only use shopify if there's like grand idea that has big research behind it and branding. Use free advertising like instagram, facebook, pinterest and maybe pay some influencers but nothing more. It will take time but just consistent interaction and new designs will eventually make you some sales! I'm no expert and pretty new to pod but i think i finally found a perfect niche that is not also less competitive but fits my own personality!
