Forest of Monsters, Treasury Room, the secret room, the waterfalls, the end credit song all of them. A true masterpiece soundtrack, Dracula X is a good game but the soundtrack to me is just a cheap remix of all the castlevania songs.

Castlevania X and not Super Castlevania IV? Are you serious? Castlevania X only revamps the music from the NES games. Super Castlevania IV has a totally original score. The music in SC IV is not only original but also beautiful, one of the best soundtracks from the 16 bit era. Also, instead of Ninja Turtles IV, I would have added the music from Space Megaforce.

Dammit why does Terranigma always get overlooked. It has awesome gameplay, amazing soundtrack and everything, yet on things like this it is always overlooked and forgotten. One of my all time favorite games for the snes as well :( Also Shadowrun, Secret Of Evermore, Illusion Of Gaia, Breath Of Fire 1 & 2, to name but a few games with awesome Soundtracks. Perhaps you guys should do a top 10 of the most overlooked games....

FUCK yes, DKC2 at first place! It totally deserves it, it's definitely in the top 5 soundtracks I've ever heard. If it was any lower, I would've been mad. I think Super Mario World should've been replaced with Yoshi's Island and be higher up on this list though, because it was honestly better.
Finally a number 1 pick I can completely agree with. DKC2 did not only have memorable and catchy tunes but the sound quality was also unrivalled on the SNES. Quality over quantity, that's why DKC2 ultimately beats Chrono Trigger and FF VI.
No ActRaiser and UN Squadron at least honorably mentioned puts a tear in my eye. In terms of pure OST's for SNES Games, both of those are legendary in my opinion.

One that I rarely see anyone mention, but which absolutely deserves to be on anyone's list of best SNES soundtracks, is the Argonaut Software game "VorteX." Another Super FX chip game that bears more than a little similarity to Transformers in concept (you play as a walking robot that can transform into a jet, steamroller, or tank at will), it's a reasonably fun but RIDICULOUSLY difficult game -- perhaps a little TOO difficult, which may have been its undoing, as it was just far too frustrating to keep most players engaged through to the end. Its soundtrack, however, is absolutely stellar. The first stage theme (which is self-titled as "Vortex" if you wanted to look it up on TH-cam) doesn't loop until it's been playing for around 9 minutes (though many TH-cam videos cut it a bit early), and is easily one of the greatest compositions on the whole of the platform -- it's a veritable techno masterpiece. The rest of the soundtrack follows suit, with not a single weak track in the bunch. A couple other personal favorites are Cryston and Magmemo.
No joke. Dracula X was heavily criticized, in part for its derivative and homogeneous soundtrack. On the other hand, the music of Castlevania IV is widely called out as the gem that it is.
The 16-bit era was the golden age of gaming soundtracks. Seriously, music was just _better_ then. Even on PC it was- compare the Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness soundtrack to, well, _any_ other RTS soundtrack that came after it and there's no comparison. The "one entry per franchise" rule bites down hard- you're basically legally obligated to put FFVI on the list because Mystic Quest was such a joke of an actual _game_ compared to it... but I personally think the Mystic Quest soundtrack is better, despite the lack of a 20-minute final boss track (then again, just _listen_ to the Dark King's theme, dammit!). The honourable mention for Lufia II was fantastic, but neglecting to mention either Terranigma OR Illusion of Gaia (I think Illusion of Gaia's soundtrack is actually marginally better, although Terranigma was the better game) is heinous.

Glad DKC2 was number one, I freaking love that soundtrack. I really love that last song they played at the end of the video, the stage with the blowing wind. That music is so soothing *le sigh* DKC1's soundtrack was great as well, I love those two games. Those were the games that made me wish I had an SNES as a kid. Had to go to my friends house to see DKC, Super Metroid, etc.

I'm a big DKC fan, but Chrono's soundtrack is just out of this world, no competition at all. (Also, would have thrown an honorable mention at Magic Knight: Rayearth's music, it was amazing too)

Super Metroid is definitely my favourite! The music is great and it matches the environments, such as the calmness of Crateria, the hellish Norfair, or the before and during of bosses.
It is a great soundtrack and it is indeed surprising that it didn't get even an honorable mention. Though I was specifically quoting Screwattack on the game from their Top 20 SNES games.

Lol you clearly have no idea what you're talking about. Nearly all the tracks, apart from a direct reference here and there, are purely original creations. When we talk about Earthbound's tracks and say that they feature samples, it mostly means that they comport some 3 seconds loop somewhere, modified, and, more often than not, impossible to identify. Besides, most of the really important reocurring themes don't even feature any samples, and are not sampled in anyway whatsoever.
Mojo's logic is the best soundchip, the best OST. If they want to play that game, I challenge them to listen Tim Follin's Plok. Secret Of Mana has great town music, great boss battle music, great situation music Fairy Child or Happenings On A Moonlight Night!!!
DKC2 has a well deserved #1 spot, it probably has the best soundtrack ever in a videogame. It's amazing how David Wise could compose such music despite cartridge limitations. I'm just disappointed to see Super Metroid in the honorable mentions, it should at least be in the top 5.

I just think DKC 2 really pushed the boundaries of what the SNES could achieve in their sound capabilities. The songs had amazing amounts of atmosphere and stickerbrush symphony is just pure heaven.

MegaMan X has the best soundtrack of all, there isn't a SINGLE dull track in the game. Every single one sticks in your head and to this day I still find myself humming along to the various themes after hundreds and hundreds of playthroughs. Also best intro stage music ever ;)

If I did this, Lufia II would be at the no.1 spot. Although the SNES was amazing. Just thinking of how they wrote and composed these songs with the hardware limitations they were working with is amazing.
Glad DKC2 was number one, I freaking love that soundtrack. I really love that last song they played at the end of the video, the stage with the blowing wind. That music is so soothing *le sigh* DKC1's soundtrack was great as well, I love those two games. Those were the games that made me wish I had an SNES as a kid. Had to go to my friends house to see DKC, Super Metroid, etc.
DKC2 does have a fantastic soundtrack, but I don't think it tops Chrono Trigger.

I'm a big DKC fan, but Chrono's soundtrack is just out of this world, no competition at all. (Also, would have thrown an honorable mention at Magic Knight: Rayearth's music, it was amazing too)

Yes. The overall soundtrack of Turtles in Time stood above Final Fantasy, which had a few _very_ strong tunes and some "meh" ones.
Demon's Crest should be on the list. also, Super Metroid deserved a spot and a high one, not a honorable mention only. Megaman X deserved a higher spot.
Donkey Kong Country 2 best sound track ever, no childhood is complete without this game, easily the best in the series.
Super Metroid is definitely my favourite! The music is great and it matches the environments, such as the calmness of Crateria, the hellish Norfair, or the before and during of bosses.
I can't believe Super Metroid nor Super Castlevania IV didn't make the list.

Nearly all of Earthbound's tracks are sampled, so while they're good, it might be cheating to have them make the list.
Lol you clearly have no idea what you're talking about. Nearly all the tracks, apart from a direct reference here and there, are purely original creations. When we talk about Earthbound's tracks and say that they feature samples, it mostly means that they comport some 3 seconds loop somewhere, modified, and, more often than not, impossible to identify. Besides, most of the really important reocurring themes don't even feature any samples, and are not sampled in anyway whatsoever.
Secret of Mana is #1 in my book. You guys at watchmojo sure have a thing for DK2.

Mojo's logic is the best soundchip, the best OST. If they want to play that game, I challenge them to listen Tim Follin's Plok. Secret Of Mana has great town music, great boss battle music, great situation music Fairy Child or Happenings On A Moonlight Night!!!
DKC2 has a well deserved #1 spot, it probably has the best soundtrack ever in a videogame. It's amazing how David Wise could compose such music despite cartridge limitations. I'm just disappointed to see Super Metroid in the honorable mentions, it should at least be in the top 5.

@@cobracmr4 oh so do I. The Snes has some of the greatest soundtracks of all time and chronotrigger is one of them. I just think DKC 2 really pushed the boundaries of what the SNES could achieve in their sound capabilities. The songs had amazing amounts of atmosphere and stickerbrush symphony is just pure heaven.

MegaMan X has the best soundtrack of all, there isn't a SINGLE dull track in the game. Every single one sticks in your head and to this day I still find myself humming along to the various themes after hundreds and hundreds of playthroughs. Also best intro stage music ever ;)
