Was finally able to get one of these yesterday. After about 8 months of looking and searching, they became available and I was able to get the leaf profile plain edge. 👍🏻
How do you think the PM2 salt will compare to this for EDC? . Lc200n vs Magnacut? I can only get one knife for multipurpose. I would the consider crucarta pm2 but I am close to the coast and am not sure how the cruwear will hold up.
Hi Pete, thanks for yet another good knife review. You had mentioned your arm in some previous video; if i could give you an advice.. Instead of sitting down when doing the rope cutting test, you could try to do it standing up with your cutting surface at a good hight. This is alot more ergonomic position, and will allow you to use your weight and leverage more than forcing your arm and shoulder. The hight of you bench or cutting area you have to experiment with, depending on your height and length of arm. This should take care of future problems. Wish you the best, looking forward to see more of your videos. Take care
It was well worth the wait for the review. One on the best yet. I cant wait to get mine having seen you worship at the Caribbean altar. Just not quite sure which PE model to get. Thanks again Pete, legendary.
If you live on the Atlantic Ocean like I do the salinity level in the Atlantic vs Pacific will cause LC200N to rust at some point or another if it’s being exposed to regular submersion in Atlantic sea water. If you aren’t taking the knife out on the water all the time the LC200N is probably better than H1 because of edge retention, but as a designated kayak fishing knife I like the pacific/atlantic salt series.
It’s designed for the off-shore sailor, fisherman, or very corrosive environments, and while wearing gloves. Thanks for showing the handle ridges which are impossible to see in the marketing ads. Great review. I’ll still take the Spydiechef....hands down.
The most salt water popular raft is the Zodiac, made famous by the naturalist and leading edge SCUBA diver Jacques Cousteau. Salt Water rafts are a thing!
There ya. Your review finished just I got to my station. I actually really like this knife with the warncliffe blade. It may be next in my collection. You know, to throw in the tackle box.
Its kind of a pain but on knives that have the edge right to the handle and you can't get it all with the kme I take the handle right off the blade and clamp only the blade. It may be over kill but if you want to get every last bit that's an option
I have that same delica 4 in the teal color frn. It is my absolute favorite edc just because how awesome the color is. Made me realize you really don't need super steels after carrying vg10 for this last almost year.
I would really like to see two of the same knife one fully serrated the other full plain edge cut rope until they are no longer able to. Just to see what the difference is
I just got one myself and I have to agree that sharpening it without messing up the handle will be a challenge for sure. Maybe this is one I just send back to Spyderco to sharpen it for me. I would love to keep the warranty intact if possible. I know if you take the blade out you could sharpen it just fine but that is risky with those screws IMO.
Just going to say it. You probably have thought of it... but i see lots of people sharpen their blades after taking the blade out from the handle... then you can sharpen that small part of the knife.
Was shocked to hear that this beat out the PM2 in your estimation. Love the premise of this knife but I think the lack of choil would drive me nuts. Either that or I would just have to freehand sharpen only for the Caribbean.
For me that's what made it better. (It's been 4 years...) to me the choil is pretty useless and because of it you are very far away from the blade in a normal grip so you are forced to use the choil. Also because of the choil it has a worse blade-handle ratio.
Just got one. I like it so far..... Would like a deeper pocket clip but I am a fan of the scales color (cuz there are plenty of black knives out there) and great egos, not to heavy but it's biggish. Mine came with the black screws.
Thanks for the great review. Also, I appreciated the picture of the rusty detent on the Spydiechef. Now I understand why Spyderco recently upgraded it with a ceramic detent ball.
First ? I have one as well and posted a rough vid on making the blade drop shutty. The weirdest thing of the knife is the torx hole on the non show side. It serves no purpose.
You'd have gotten my like on the Monkey Island reference alone...but also, an excellent and very helpful review! I think this is my next Spyder (for food prep and backup self-defense). Just need to decide about serrations.
SuperSteel Steve i sharpened the choil in my pm2 because i made it too deep and it only bothered me when i was cutting cloth like materials at work, I've learned since to leave it more shallow and no problems and yes apart from what i mentioned that part of the blade doesn't get much use
Knife geek comment, that PM2 blade is neither a drop point (convex on top at tip), or a clip point (concave on top at tip). Not really sure what it is. Anyway, thanks for a very good reveiw of this Salt.
It's my understanding that sailing knives have wharncliff blades because the sailors are cutting wet rope at night , and in storms , they were less likely to cut themselves .
Old vid I know but this is a sheepsfoot, which is also what you gave the history of, not a wharncliffe. They share the straight edge but are distinctly different and come from different histories.
I’d really like to get a knife in this steel, and I like this one and the spydiechef. I’m aware that they are meant for different purposes, but just looking at price alone is the chef a 30% better knife? Also I’ve read that the chef now has a ceramic detent ball, can you confirm or deny this?
I like the leaf blade version’s overall design. I’m really intrigued to get Lc200n, but that yellow/black color choice kills it for me. Where can I find the SpydieChef in stock?
I'd be way more on board with the Mardi Gras styling if they wrote "Spyderco", or stuck a logo on that black band focal point on the handle. Give that awkward gap shape a bit more purpose and echo the frn volcano styling of yore a bit more strongly.
I just got my Caribbean after twenty-plus years of having to sharpen my Atlantic H1 Salt every time I wanted to use it. I have lived on a sailboat for forty-seven years, buying new knives and sharing the H1 steel. An eight-hour test is nothing. Try eighteen months in salt water.
I think I did mention that, didnt I? That the first gen had a steel one prone to rust and they CQI’d it? Without watching the whole video again I really thought I did. If not in this one then in a previous one on the chef
Been waiting for this review. Great job - I think i share all your opinions on this one, just can’t decide on the blade shape! I guess one can over think it maybe it’s just about personal preference at the end of the day?
I had a heck of a problem with the H1 “salt” metal. I dropped the blade and the tip literally bent into a U shape. It made me worry about the hardness of the blade.
you have to make a sharpening choil for all spyderco's. or just deal with that or just send it to spyderco to sharpen it on there belt grinders. also 99% of the time the compression lock never closes and catches the first time. or it bounces off the stop pin and pops out. rather annoying lock feature.
It’s like when your not making millions of passes through rope, your verbal reviews goes full steam ahead maybe causing tongue blisters instead of hand blisters🤣👍🏼 Enjoy them either way Love your grey dragon roaming the floors
I realized something when thinking about the knives you have bought and other good value options, your missing a khukuri! have you checked out any of the Nepalese makers? excellent value for the quality.
Rusty Shackleford North Arms Knives Skaha is a liner lock without liners. How about next time you don't assume your the smartest man in a conversation, it just makes you look like an ass.
The year is 2024 and I finally purchased a Caribbean. It’s great, ergos are nice, and the action is good. Excellent buy!
Was finally able to get one of these yesterday. After about 8 months of looking and searching, they became available and I was able to get the leaf profile plain edge. 👍🏻
Lc200n Sprint runs for everyone!
Great review. I have absolutely no need for this knife, but I want it. If I start fishing regularly again this would absolutely be in my pocket.
Most thorough video I’ve watched about the Caribbean. Brilliant work! Thank you!
This knife has not been out of my pocket since Christmas! Thank you for all your solid reviews.
How do you think the PM2 salt will compare to this for EDC? . Lc200n vs Magnacut? I can only get one knife for multipurpose. I would the consider crucarta pm2 but I am close to the coast and am not sure how the cruwear will hold up.
10:20 Waldo got lost in the Outback and nobody found him for years. Now he is going to find you
I wish someone would make scales for this knife. I want one but the 1st thing I would do is dye those scales.
Designed for cutting up pineapple to make Pina Coladas
Each Day ... And slicing up limes for rum drinks!
You have a great sense of humour and it is nice to have entertainment with our useful information. Thanks for another great review.
LC200N is such a great upgrade over H1.
but h1 serrated lasts forever and even shown so in catra testing.
Such claims about serrated H1 being a magical formula are almost entirely unfounded.
@@dkompolt1234 even crucible tested it and said it was work hardening.
I would say a steel that needs to be fully serrated to have good edge retention is a significant weakness that LC200N does not exhibit.
@@Creelyblades I'm not sure if it needs to be, but the fact of the matter is finding out how to work harden it without serrations.

Rusty Shackleford cheers mate. I think that's the way I'll go.
An excellent, thorough review Pete. Well done

16:00 Here is an excellent view you should take of the delica handle shape versus the non shaped para handle slabs
It’s designed for the off-shore sailor, fisherman, or very corrosive environments, and while wearing gloves. Thanks for showing the handle ridges which are impossible to see in the marketing ads. Great review. I’ll still take the Spydiechef....hands down.
Native 5 is getting LC200N variant I believe. More “normal”
Yep just got one...
never heard of salwater rafting lol 😂
The most salt water popular raft is the Zodiac, made famous by the naturalist and leading edge SCUBA diver Jacques Cousteau. Salt Water rafts are a thing!
I believe you can ride ocean 🌊 with saltwater rafts.
Just bought this knife but with the leaf shape blade.
So pumped
I had no interest in this knife until you and AKB reviewed it. Now I need one. Thanks alot dickheads.
There ya. Your review finished just I got to my station. I actually really like this knife with the warncliffe blade. It may be next in my collection. You know, to throw in the tackle box.
Great review, brother! You really knock out a comprehensive review. Thank you very much for sharing! 👍
Changed screws to black in the CQI release. Disassemble to sharpen.
Next on my list, stopped collecting then began again, great knife 🔪 👍
First one from Spyderco I've been interested in. I'm in Florida and kayak. Right now I carry a beater Scrade and my Cold Steele Immortal.
Found out my Cold Steele Immortal doesn't like salt water 😒
Its kind of a pain but on knives that have the edge right to the handle and you can't get it all with the kme I take the handle right off the blade and clamp only the blade. It may be over kill but if you want to get every last bit that's an option
Never mind, I just realized I can dye the yellow out.
I like it, but for that neon yellow G10. Make it blood red plus a really nice stonewash on the blade!🤩🤩🤩
I have that same delica 4 in the teal color frn. It is my absolute favorite edc just because how awesome the color is. Made me realize you really don't need super steels after carrying vg10 for this last almost year.
Id love LC200N PM2
With lc200n liners
It would be interesting to see your take on the Pacific and atlantic salt knives in lc200N.
I would really like to see two of the same knife one fully serrated the other full plain edge cut rope until they are no longer able to. Just to see what the difference is
my prediction is the serrated would win by a large distance but be equally large a job to resharpen it!
There will be a 4.25” blade version out in the future. Sal has hinted at a possible Ti handled version too. Great review as always
Daniel Clemens I would love a mini version. The last thing they need to do is make it bigger.
Savage!
Best video on this knife I've found!! Come on Santa!
I just got one myself and I have to agree that sharpening it without messing up the handle will be a challenge for sure. Maybe this is one I just send back to Spyderco to sharpen it for me. This is definitely my next purchased. I believe the blade shape is a sheepsfoot technically?
Just got one. I like it so far..... Would like a deeper pocket clip but I am a fan of the scales color (cuz there are plenty of black knives out there) and great egos, not to heavy but it's biggish. Mine came with the black screws.
The intro was epic.
Probably the only spyderco I like ,good review
Thanks for the great review. Also, I appreciated the picture of the rusty detent on the Spydiechef. Now I understand why Spyderco recently upgraded it with a ceramic detent ball.
First ?
I have one as well and posted a rough vid on making the blade drop shutty.
The weirdest thing of the knife is the torx hole on the non show side. It serves no purpose.
Interested in getting this one. Is there a significant difference between LC200N & 14c28n?
Great knife and thorough review. Going rafting? (freshwater ) Bring a full tang serrated blade in a molle compatible sheath. ✌
You'd have gotten my like on the Monkey Island reference alone...but also, an excellent and very helpful review!
I think this is my next Spyder (for food prep and backup self-defense). Just need to decide about serrations.
I take a dremel with a diamond bit and put a small sharpening choil on every spyderco i own lol.... Cant stand the no choil thing
SuperSteel Steve i bought set of diamond needle file set for that, i can even sharpen the choil.
Oozy9Millimeetah that's cool.
I just never find myself ever using that first 2mm worth of blade. The notch i cut is literally 1mm x 1mm
SuperSteel Steve i sharpened the choil in my pm2 because i made it too deep and it only bothered me when i was cutting cloth like materials at work, I've learned since to leave it more shallow and no problems and yes apart from what i mentioned that part of the blade doesn't get much use
Caribbean after market scale need to be a thing. Micarta? Yeaaa
Knife geek comment, that PM2 blade is neither a drop point (convex on top at tip), or a clip point (concave on top at tip). Not really sure what it is. Anyway, thanks for a very good reveiw of this Salt.
Ordered one today living in Florida it’s a must have, the Bumblebee!
Is that "croc" cheddar?
It's my understanding that sailing knives have wharncliff blades because the sailors are cutting wet rope at night , and in storms , they were less likely to cut themselves .
kerryrwac yes. So we don’t poke ourselves in a pitching boat
Chayavat Mokarakorn or the tops of our feet
That spydie has a long effective cutting edge
Solid Review!!! Thanxs..
Do you prefer that version or leaf shaped ?!!!
Old vid I know but this is a sheepsfoot, which is also what you gave the history of, not a wharncliffe. They share the straight edge but are distinctly different and come from different histories.
Do you use this knife?
Was this one enjoyable enough to stay in the collection?
I thought a wharncliffe had a steep drop to an acute point like a Spyderco Yojimbo and a curve down to the edge like this Caribbean was a sheepsfoot??
It's a great knife (I have the Leaf solid edge) and other than my SpydieChef It's more carried than my PM2 also!
I’d really like to get a knife in this steel, and I like this one and the spydiechef. I’m aware that they are meant for different purposes, but just looking at price alone is the chef a 30% better knife? Also I’ve read that the chef now has a ceramic detent ball, can you confirm or deny this?

Dang
I hope i get to try lc200n or Vanax in my lifetime
we have a Calico too!!
I have been looking forward to this review! Seems like a better value than a spyderco shaman.
I just got my Caribbean after twenty-plus years of having to sharpen my Atlantic H1 Salt every time I wanted to use it. I have lived on a sailboat for forty-seven years, buying new knives and sharing the H1 steel. An eight-hour test is nothing. Try eighteen months in salt water.
no mention of the fact that the spydiechef has had a ceramic detent ball for a long time now that does NOT rust, like the Caribbean?
I think I did mention that, didnt I? That the first gen had a steel one prone to rust and they CQI’d it? Without watching the whole video again I really thought I did. If not in this one then in a previous one on the chef
Very thorough review
Should i buy a sheepsfoot or leaf blade?
Well, do you find yourself piercing things very often? Or opening boxed or cutting tape kind of jobs more often?
solid review , good job!
Been waiting for this review. Great job - I think i share all your opinions on this one, just can’t decide on the blade shape! I guess one can over think it maybe it’s just about personal preference at the end of the day?
I'm going with the sheep's foot shape as I'm less likely to stab myself on a rolling fishing boat.
Dude how come you still haven't tested benchmade n680 steel? Thanks
Does this knife float in water?
lonewolf no
Does any knife float in water?
Yes, often diving knives will float so you don't lose them.
trav v The Z hunter does...that pile of poo ain't sinkin
trav v Mora recently brought out a knife which floats
I'm thinking you're part of some LC200N CABAL! Forcing me to buy some!
I love spyderco, but damn, do they not understand what a sharpening choil is!!
Well done review.....🤜🏻
Ya man, dat a bamba clat, bad bwoy blade, cha!
I bet it cut ja herb nicely. Good yacht, sailing knife
I had a heck of a problem with the H1 “salt” metal. I dropped the blade and the tip literally bent into a U shape. It made me worry about the hardness of the blade.
Average Joe yeah that stuffs not known for being much more than very stainless
Love the final fantasy 7 music lol
you have to make a sharpening choil for all spyderco's. or just deal with that or just send it to spyderco to sharpen it on there belt grinders.
also 99% of the time the compression lock never closes and catches the first time. or it bounces off the stop pin and pops out. rather annoying lock feature.
Awesome. Something to watch on the train trip home.
mine came with a bad detent
Hell yeah Nice Dogs 😆👌🏻
I require para 3 lw lc200n
It’s like when your not making millions of passes through rope, your verbal reviews goes full steam ahead maybe causing tongue blisters instead of hand blisters🤣👍🏼
Enjoy them either way
Love your grey dragon roaming the floors
I really like the blade shape. Wish they would adapt it to the PM2 line up. Thank's! 👍
I realized something when thinking about the knives you have bought and other good value options, your missing a khukuri! have you checked out any of the Nepalese makers? excellent value for the quality.
Just got 1 from campsaver for 20% off...$135.00 shipped. Thanks for review
Advanced Knife Bro asked Sal's people about Caribbean torx hardware and they are S.S. not Ti.
Not so excited for that dimensions, in that range for hard work i tend to prefere a fix blade knife.
Salt water rafting? What the hell is that?
That's a sheepsfoot blade, not a wharncliffe.
function over form is a pro for me not a con ...this is a tool to be used .
Would love a SALT version of a PM2. Patiently waiting. Love my Caribbean though.
Lol, spell H-1 steel! Just messin with ya, it is a good knife, well done
Always hate the absence of a TIP!!
I'd prefer an option for a different color, wire clip, and no liners.
Z. Ripley how will it lock?
Jordan Steffanson compression lock
Rusty Shackleford why would you say that?
Rusty Shackleford North Arms Knives Skaha is a liner lock without liners. How about next time you don't assume your the smartest man in a conversation, it just makes you look like an ass.
Rusty Shackleford no it doesn't have a liner, it has a lock bar.
Thanks for the compliment.
