Great instructions, I have a similar GE model and was still able to get the pump out. No blockages, but the impeller wasn't fully seated in with the motor so pushed it in. Did the pump test and the impeller would spin then stop frequently as if it was stuck on something. Also sounded like the motor had water in it, so likely the gasket seal failed. Was hoping the fix would be quicker than ordering a replacement, but still happy to have found the root cause. Thanks for the help

Perfect tutorial. When I got the drain pump out, I disconnected the motor from the manifold and found the impeller shaft was broken. So although I couldn’t fix it without buying a new part. I’m pretty confident this is the fix, which is 90% of the battle. Thanks for the video!

Thank you so much. I have the same model. Thought I lost my washing machine when it failed to drain. The drain pump was making a humming noise every few minutes but after watching your video I was able to remove the clog (plastic piece jammed the pump) and save the pump.

Wow, following your video I was able to get to the root of the issue. Motor blade sheared off the motor. Found replacement on amazon for $59.53. Thank your for your instruction video! Try an internet search using "WBVH5300K0WW drain pump". That should give you quite a few options. Make sure to check all the different sites. When I was searching for my replacement pump, I found price disparities of $30-80 -- for the same pump.
Great video. My GE front load washer is about 1 month old. It already has pump issues. It sounds like it's chewing on nails when the machine is draining. It intermittently fails to drain. Of course it's under warranty. I put a call in for service. The tech says the grinding noise is "not that bad". Then he runs a rinse cycle and concludes the pump is ok because it drains the water. The second tech (a week later) says it does need a water pump. He said he will get a new pump on order. That's the last we ever heard. I'm sure not impressed with GE "service".
In my LG I have had to replace the drain pump 7 times. You have to remove the top, control panel, the front including the door and gasket to get to the pump. GE seems to be easier

GE Front Load Washer 4-5 years old. Model GFWH2400L0WW Can you more clearly explain exactly what the machine was doing before you cleaned out your drain pump? "Not draining" is not quite clear. Ours is stopping with 20-mins remaining in the cycle, the door locks and the pause button blinks. We can't open the door (it's locked), no button works at that point. The power button is lit and the pause button blinks. We can change cycles or complete the load of wash. I have unplugged the machine for 10 minutes, then held the power button in and plugged it back in (and held in the button for a few seconds longer) and it has worked a few times and the load completes. It will go for a week or two with no problems and then 7-8 loads in a row will have to be "reset" to complete the load. VERY frustrating. Could it need a pump? Could it need a new circuit board? Any suggestions?
My problem washer was not showing the symptoms yours is. For yours, I would start with checking the drain pump as I show in the video. From that you can determine if you have a mechanical blockage or not. If no blockage, and your pump is clear, you most likely have a circuit board, sensor, or other electronic issue - not mechanical interference (like I had in mine). Hope this helps.
How do you know when the washer drain pump is failing? Mine will go on in the middle of the night and you can hear the drain pump go on. The unit itself will be turned off, but out of nowhere the drain pump will start draining. I also started having instances where the washer will not spin. The unit just barely hit 2 years. A factory technician came out before the two years were up and stated the unit is not broken and to just unplug the unit if it goes on in the middle of the night or middle of the day and starts to drain.
I don't have any experience with your symptoms. My experience with the motor is that they either A) run and drain, B) run but don't drain because there is something stuck in the impeller, or C) don't drain because the motor is dead. My intent for the video is to hopefully inform people on how to address B so that they don't end up with C. Regarding your symptoms, it sounds more like a logic board issue. The technician's answer is unacceptable. I would start diagnosing by getting power to the motor directly to see if it reliably turns off and on as you add/remove power.
If your washer is not spinning or getting to the spin cycle, that sounds like more than just the pump and probably your circuit board. I hope you can get it diagnosed and fixed.
Would this also cause for the washer not to spin? I cleaned out the filter and check the belt on the back but they both seem to be fine. When I start a cycle the washer will pour water then I can hear the motors trying to start then the washer goes on pause and the door sounds like it unlocks. Please help! 🙏🏼
Most likely the filter is not related to your no spinning issue. Checking the belt is a good start. It is possible it could also be the spinning motor or maybe a control board issue. Good luck!
GE wcvh6800j1ww : I bought a used unit the owner said pump was the only thing not working. Construction is similar to this for the pump. Nothing in the filter. Took the motor out and found an Oring that has locked the motor fins. To get to the fins, unscrew the 3 screws holding the cone/cover over the fins. (No idea where the gray Oring came from hopefully not from the unit.) To test the motor I cut up a spare computer power cord, crimped and ran the motor to check that it worked since it runs on 120V AC. This fixed the unit. *I've found where the gray rubber piece came from, it broke off from the door boot gasket.
Yes. Those go up to a wiring harness that I had already cut. (Good eye.) This washer was already being deconstructed for parts and I was using it to create this instructional video. I hope it has helped.

My washer doesn’t get to the spin or drain cycle. Could it be the pump or the main control board.

Step one take hoses off 9 out of 10 times the lines are clogged ! Took me 10 minutes to fix mine...
Yep.....if it isn't the pump it frequently is the hoses. Glad you got yours fixed.
What hoses? The exterior ones for hook up?
