    Andy Mac is an excellent teacher, awesome musician and full of soul. He shows us the power and passion of these controllers by Akai. I recently purchased the MPC Studio and I am not looking back. The MPC studio is so powerful and allows one to create passionate music in any genre. What better way to start your songs with inspiration and set the stage for further processing with the DAW of your choice and then take it for final mastering. Simply put, the MPC Studio saves you the time of organizing your ideas in a DAW and launches you up to full blown sequences full of musical inspiration. It will take work, dedication and persistancy to learn this system but it is well worth it and what better way to learn but with the masterclasses provided to us by Andy on the Akai website. Oh, shoutouts to the man Ave McRee, Musician Paradise, SampleKings and my boy X.E.L. Ohhhh!

    Now that looks like a product for me, as not a musician, but enjoy messing around inside studio one with atom, this looks like a whole new level of ease and fun. As it is cheaper than MPC One and I am always tied to computer anyway, so seems like a no brainer present to myself at Christmas!

    This was awesome Andy, thanks for taking the time to put this master class together which I imagine must have been quite fun :) I just need to wrap my head around the pad mute thing as it's quite new to me... coming from a Logic Pro dynamics of linear editing/ arrangement I find that having to memorize what's in each pad during that process quite challenging, but it's also a very interesting and hands on approach. I wrote full pop song using only my MPC Studio and learnt a lot during the process, which is why I'm considering buying the MPC One Plus, but making music without a DAW also gives me the fear of having to dive into the sub-menu of the sub-menu of the menu of the sub-menu... let's see :)

    It's not a bad idea to go with the Studio controller and software as it is a very modern workflow for producers of many genres. The controller itself is a bit limited probably because Akai wanted it to stay within the low price range but all in all it definitely worth to try. Just learn how to operate software with mouse first - learn where and what you can do and then connect controller to speed up the workflow and use pads for performances.

    • @boutstaxx
      @boutstaxx 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly its easier to understand if you came from standalone when at least comes to advanced features I use mpc x and bought for portability and to help learn software more if i didn't have X as a newbie I think it would've been difficult to know of advanced features chopping sample tuning assigning lfos and etc most demos I see people use to make basic patterns

    • @cyberluke
      @cyberluke ปีที่แล้ว

      @@boutstaxx I come from Live II to Studio mk2 and while you can do everything on standalone MPC, here on Studio mk2 a lot of things you can't do. Changing bar length? Changing note length? Selecting note? Navigating in sequence? Changing bar in sequence? All of these are bugs. And the funny thing is that attaching any 3rd party midi controller, you can go to Global Midi and assign Sequence Current Bar to fader or knob. So it is in the software, just Studio mk2 has bug in firmware because it is not mapped to any of plethora locator buttons (or pad banks, or digital dial, or touchstrip). This completely kills the creative workflow you have with any other MPC, just not Studio. I want MPC workflow, not mouse. MPC Software should have added only possibility to use external plugins, but the workflow should be the same. No touching mouse. The only exception would be typing a track name on a keyboard. Other vendors, such as Presonus and their ATOM (and ATOM SQ) or NI Maschine can do this stuff. MPC standalone also can do it. So I was a bit surprised that half of the work I need to fix by mouse with Studio mk2. Already wrote on MPC Forums, no answer. Wrote on AKAI, no answer. Filling RMA with distributor now.
      BTW: You even cannot change number of bars or current bar by mousewheel. You need to hold down left mouse button on +- field and move the mouse vertically. It is very difficult and painful after several hours with mouse to change bar length by 1. The precision is bad. Makes your arm tired and it is not healthy. Even the UI is not made for this. Other DAW can at least adjust values by mousewheel. Here only hold+drag or typing keyboard.

    • @boutstaxx
      @boutstaxx ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cyberluke Some of the things u mentioned I think u can do on the mk2 but you’re right when it comes to editing the midi information u can’t it seems like u should be able to select notes and change length with the jog wheel one thing about the mk2 it’s going to make you learn the software like you have to go to the software menu to find things like track clear or copy hidden I’ll admit the touch strip was pretty cool I had one for about 2 months when I sold my X afterwards I sold that and got a live 2 so I understand your frustration

    • @cyberluke
      @cyberluke ปีที่แล้ว

      @@boutstaxx Yes, thank you. Imagine I work at computer 8-12 hours per day and then want to make music. I'm pretty sensitive at using mouse and I have been using FL Studio and Ableton for years, so I don't like clicking menu. People buy MPC to get that workflow. The workflow is very good. But it seems on modern MPC, the most of the workflow is happening thanks to the touchscreen. I am also a hardware maker. Touchstrip is now very popular everywhere, it is cheap (cost effective) solution. I don't have a specific issue with that and you can always map midimix knobs to q-links in software. But the way how they integrate the sequencer, a lot of people on MPCForums says that some basic stuff is missing and sequencer should get more love from Akai. The product is one year on the market and there has been no specific update for Studio mk2, only MPC 2.10.1 (the initial version with studio mk2 support). For example Presonus Atom SQ does not have touch screen display, but has that touchstrip as well, and you can change everything and edit anything like on standalone MPC. Even have 8 knobs. The workflow is different. I wish MPC Studio mk2 would be that product.

    I’ve been a One user and let me say, the studio 2 is fun as shit. Nothing beats it for speed the only time you need a mouse and screen is when loading samples and naming things and that is 100x better than menu diving on a stand-alone unit.

    The Studio Mk2 is a very good option indeed particularly when you weigh in it comes with the MPC software. The negative feedback from some reviewers is partially unwarranted. I bought one and I have a MPC One already.
    At the same time, it represents missed opportunities:
    1) It is very competitive with the Mikro Mk3. That's where it should've been marketed as instead of being called a Studio Mk2. Calling this a Studio Mk2 builds consumer expectations this unit was not designed to meet. The layout doesn't match the Studio so you're not going to seamlessly move between a Studio and this.
    2) The screen is too small for a Studio but ok for a Mikro Mk3 competitor. Again, proper marketing matters. Names mean things to consumers and they may build expectations based on a name.
    3) The touch slider seems of limited utility over using the space for 4 Q-links. Change is good at times but it is unclear that this change makes working with the device any better. Just different and not always as convenient. For a Mikro Mk3 competitor, it probably isn't a big deal but as a Studio replacement, it's problematic.
    4) The button arrangement doesn't match existing devices. That's not a problem if you're planning not to sell this to existing customers. They would have to learn any set up. Existing customers who have muscle memory built up for a MPC may resent having to do things differently.
    5) The default key mapping of pads and buttons make the Studio Mk2 of minimal value as a MIDI controller outside of the MPC software. That could change in time with key maps.
    Good product for the price though. The instructional videos are great.
    The Studio Mk2 is a good device with a competitive feature set. It probably should've been called something different being that it is something different. Surely, it's no MPC Studio in function or features.

      Im witcha i have a X bought for portability have love hate relationship but honestly when it comes to advance features I feel like would've been lost if I never used standalone and knew they existed most of the time like said were trying to figure out something we already know we want to do but just with this and software like simple stuff like clearing tracks or making keygroups to many menus and extra button presses but at last lets me have fun on the go without bringing my X or buying a live that was the sweet spot for me personally

    • @cyberluke
      @cyberluke ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, definitely agree. I would like something like MPC X mk2 with better integration with software (sampling directly from PC hard drive). I had Live II and it was great. Only I felt the speakers should be rotated by 45 degrees to get more clean highend in your direction. Now stuck with Studio mk2 and half of the things must be done only with mouse. I have even 7'' touch screen, so I could modify this solution to connect Studio mk2 with Windows 10 and 7'' touchscreen. The issue is that MPC Software on Windows 10 does not have any LITE skin for smaller display and controls are not touch screen ready. The best thing would be to run MPC Software from MPC Standalone on Windows 10 + adding VST support. That would be it! The MPC workflow. This is not it.

    I cannot find a section that would explain how to create a keygroup from a sample, so you can play it in a key as a melody. This is very simple on MPC standalone, but very difficult with Studio mk2.

    Why has there been no "masterclass" for the MPC X? You do them for all the lower end products, but for your absolute most expensive product, you don't do one? Would be nice for those of us that have invested thousands in a single one of your products to have a "masterclass," as well. Just a suggestion.

    • @AkaiProVideo
      @AkaiProVideo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Thanks for the feedback. The MPC Academy and Masterclass series as a whole were introduced well after the MPC X launch. That being said, be on the lookout for more exciting MPC X content in the future.

    • @mccflo99
      @mccflo99 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @@AkaiProVideo Yep, well aware of the Masterclasses coming out after MPC X, but it seems like the X would be a top-of-the-line priority to get a Masterclass being that it's the flagship product in the MPC line and marketed as the "centerpiece of the studio." No device you sell could benefit from a Masterclass more than the X. There are a ton of third-party TH-cam tutorials out there but of varying quality and content, many of which are confusing or have mistakes in them. It would be greatly appreciated if you would do a comprehensive Masterclass on the MPC X. I'm a member of several groups on Facebook that are X users, each of which has 10,000 or more members, and this has come up repeatedly. You definitely have an eager audience that would love to see this! I'd happily share the heck out of it in the groups too. Thanks!

Can I then connect my synth and sample from my audio interface directly into the MPC? Will audio from the MPC be run through the audio interface or do I need to change something in the preference settings?
