Disclaimer - I am not a hairstylist in anyway so take this with a grain of salt lol but from my research of wanting to dye my own hair ginger, I think the issue is the hair color and the mixture. 1) I may be mistaken (someone correct me if I’m wrong) but I don’t know if you can lift hair color with a semi permanent dye, especially dark hair. It doesn’t penetrate hair like permanent dye. If you wanted to use the adore color your hair would’ve already needed to be a lighter color like blonde. 2) your mixture was too watery, most likely because adore is liquid. You’d definitely need more developer than hair dye because you need enough developer to actually lighten your hair/color. Most of the videos I’ve seen are people using the L’Oréal hicolor copper permanent crème hair dye. If you were to use that then that’s where you’d want the mixture to have a slightly thick consistency- not too watery and not too thick, I think like a yogurt consistency. And you’d leave it in at least 45 minutes. As far as the developer, I’ve seen 40 volume lifting the best but as you said if 40 is too much for you then using 30 will still work but it may not be a bright copper/ginger color, maybe more of an auburn color but with virgin hair you’d definitely get some lift. Hope this helps! I’ll be dying my hair soon too so hopefully all this research works for me also

You used a semi permanent which is like a rinse. You need hicolor copper highlights by L’Oréal with 30 developer

I wanna go ginger too but i’d rather be mad at myself than a professional so idk what to do 😂

I'm not a professional hair stylist but from what I know it didn't work because the dye you used is a semi-permanent die so it's not going to be able to penetrate the hair shaft deeply the way a permanent dye would. It would only coat the outer cuticle of the hair but because your hair is black it's not going to show. I would suggest using loreal excellence Hicolor highlight in the shade copper if you want to permanently dye your hair without having to bleach it. That's what I used and it turned out great.
