Witchy Woman Guitar Lesson: An Insider’s Look at the Eagles’ Signature Sound
The Eagles are widely regarded as one of the greatest rock bands especially known for their exceptional guitar skills.
If you want to level up your rock guitar game then today I've got something special for you. I'm going to share a complete breakdown of the riffs, styles, and grooves for how to play their hit song “Witchy Woman”.
"Witchy Woman" was written by Don Henley and Bernie Leadon.
Leadon a founding member of the Eagles had actually already started writing the "Witchy Woman" riff when he was a member of the band the Flying Burrito Brothers.
The song came to life when Leadon went over to Henley’s new spot where he was living in an old house near the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California.
Henley recalled Leadon coming over one day and playing a “Strange, minor-key riff that sounded sort of like a Hollywood movie version of Indian music.”
He thought it had a haunting quality to it and this became the rough version they put down on cassette tape.
Later it was recorded in the studio with the full band and released as the second single from the Eagles' debut album in 1972.
The opening signature riff is actually double-tracked guitars with each guitar playing just one single note at a time. I've come up with a way of playing the multiple guitar parts on one guitar, and today in this post I'll break it down step-by-step!

Hope Don Henley's lawyers don't pull this down.
Henley cries poverty with 2 loaves of bread under each arm. Just playing the recording of the song is one thing, but this is educational material that actually exposes his work to more people who would never have heard it.

Totally agree! And I like seeing other people's interpretations since the actual recordings have a lot going on.

@@funnyharleyman And he was living the rock star life (imagine how much $$ he put up his nose in the 80s) and tagging Stevie Nicks in her prime; if he wants sympathy, he can look it up in the dictionary - it's somewhere between s**t and syphilis.

You'd get a lot more views if you played through the parts in one go in the beginning of the video before starting the lesson. If not, then add video chapters to the video.

Man, this is so badass. I learned it old school using bar chords but those second guitar parts were eye-opening. Now I can play it three ways, lol. In the future could you do a breakdown on Paul Stanley - Take me away from the solo album please ? Too many guitars are on that one but I do know it's in Dm. Love your work Sir.

Hi Jon, at 4:52ish, are you playing a grace note on the 4th string or a strum on the double stop before the pull-off? If I follow your instruction to go directly from the D on the 4th string to the pull-off, it sounds to me like i'm missing something in between, but I can't be sure if I am imagining it or not.

    Hi Jon.
I will apologize up front.. But I have such distain for The Eagles/Don Henely; and his constant war on TH-cam creators.
By using "Copyright Strikes" to harm them and even have the channel removed from the platform,
So I have decided that I will not support or even give attention to anything "Henley, Frey or Eagles".
Nor will I Support or watch any channel that promotes their music in any manner or form.
I really enjoy your content and I appreciate all the hard work you put into your videos.
But I feel so strongly about that Greedy Slime; Henley in particular,
At this point I will part company with your channel.
    Good luck stay well.
