You are much more braver than what we would be. You did a great job and my wife held her breath through the whole video. Thank you for sharing. Stay safe.
It is always great to get a situtation resolved in life's events. I have never been a fan of slide outs. With that said, we all have what makes our lives positive & enjoyable in living. I restored in 6 months a 1960's RV Trailer. Enjoyed it on over night & sometimes few days of out about ventures. I enjoyed it for 2 years & then was assigned to a different location in the county. With my 455 motor 98 olds with hitch a Amish Man who built Buggies welded to the 98 Olds, that RV Trailer was never going anywhere away on the roadways. With Air Shocks it rode great & electric brakes & used the same size tires that my 98 Olds used. Just when I got to new assignment, to keep the RV parked was not the best location. As it turned out, I came in touch with a lady & her daughter who could not keep paying high rent. She had some land on a lake her uncle had left here with septic, power from grid & fresh well water. He had a small rv trailer he would take to go fishing on weekends & summer months. She said when he got ill he sold the small RV trailer. She asked me if I ever thought of selling my RV? I thought a moment & said, I paid $500 for the RV & in Parts & New Tires had spent $1,3OO. As for labor I did it all on my own in 6 months, no cost. She broke down crying, she said in my Savings account I have $1,800 dollars. I was going to Gift the RV To her. I told her, honey the RV is yours. (I realized & respected this Lady & she wanted to Provide for Her Daughter & herself. She was planting the Seeds in her Daughters Life.)Went to her Bank & she withdrew the $1,800 dollars & closed her account. She hugged me & her daughter hugged me. She then asked, could you drive it 20 miles to where I can live with the RV? I told her that was no issue & the next day drove the RV Trailer to it's new Home. It was a very beautiful lake & got it all in place. Her late Uncle had by hand mixed & poured a concrete pad that my RV Trailer just fit on. She got a L.P. Tank & hooked it up & hooked the electrical & septic hose & water line. She slept in it that night with her daughter for 1st time Rent Free in their lives. I talked to her some weeks later. She had a dear friend who had come & built onto the RV a 12' by 12' room & installed windows & screens & great tin roof. About month later she & her daughter invited me out to dinner. I was amazed how they had truely made their new home a real Mom & Daughters home. She had sewed new Drapes. The Stove & Oven had restored was cooking away & oven was baking away. The school bus stop was just 1 mile down a dirt road & her daughter walked to & from. There was a good Grocery store & Drug store just 2 miles away. doneWhere my RV Trailer started out in life had been at a Camp grounds in the 1960's of a Couples on weekends to go to from Boston onto Cape Cod. Years later they had passed away & the Owner of the Camp grounds they left it to. It had sat for years until I discovered it & bought it. 2 1/2 years of enjoying myself & 800 miles later, it had a new home & family. Many years have come and gone. I had heard the daughter was grown up & went to College & got married & has kids. Her mother I sold it to is still living in what I had named the RV, 'Seafire' on the Lake & in her late 70's. She enjoys her Grandchildren who come on weekends to spend & Summer months to live with. What a true act of kindness to gift foward in life will produce in life for another has always been how I have been hardwired. I have had many challenges in my professional life & personal life. I am now in a place I need that extra help. No, not money, helping hands to get my home in the order it needs to be. No I am not a hoarder. In restoring my home my loving brother was diagnosed with COPD. He did ok the 1st six years with portable oxygen get'n around slow with ease. The last 5 1/2 years 100% bed bound 24/7 & passed in my arms. Being in Law Enforcement I was also EMT. We were raised Famly takes care of Family, would never know any other way to live in life. So in helping me restore my home was stopped in mid stream. I got the exterior done great. The interior, I have much to put in order. Nothing heavy. That takes the help of a good pair of trusing & honest helping hands. No one has a perfect life. Anyone that has ever said they have a perfect life & never been ill in life, I get as far away from as possible. Doors open in our lives for a reason & I have always gone through those doors as everyone should. We never know when a door will open again? So I have always lived my life with a solid agenda, "Where one door closes another door will open". I would think that makes me an optimistic personality. With that said that would come with trust & honesty in life. Safe Travels, always, Tommy🤠
What a great story! We have always tried to follow our gut (we always regretted when we didn’t) and the timing just ALWAYS works out. Always. Same concept. The times that felt the worst, great things eventually came out of them and we were happy we stuck to it. Thanks for sharing!!
@@RVUntethered Thanks much. I'm sure you guys will have the same problems that I will so I'll have a great place to go for solutions when they happen to my rig. 🙂
@@RVUntethered Oh i wasnt goofing on the support that he built. i am refering to the fact that i am in no way a mechanic. Ask my wife, if i pick up a tool to try to repair something she yells nooo!!! Then she calls someone who can actually fix stuff lol
Congrats on a job well done. I've never seen anyone do this repair. I am going to go look at my slides right now. Off topic - Are you happy with that ladder you have? If so do you have a link to it? Thanks
Thank you! The repair looked worse than it was honestly. Our ladder is a Ohuhu ladder from Amazon. I’ve used it a lot and I do like it but after nearly two years it sometimes takes a little force to close. Likely due to being out in the elements (back of the truck) constantly. The one I bought is currently unavailable but this one appears to be identical and has good reviews. I think if you keep them out of the rain, they’re a great option. Here’s a link to one very similar amzn.to/3K9hk2A
Really amazing at how many TH-camr’s have to repair their Grand Designs. Kinda of mine boggling. Todd with Switch it Up looks 6:09 like he has the same problem.
We definitely had some bugs to work out (hence some of our earlier videos), but we suspect that any unit is going to have issues and we use it a LOT! We were nervous, but it worked out okay. Thanks for watching!
@@RVUntethered We have a 2022 Riverstone Legacy 42fskg which is the toy hauler; not a true toy hauler . We had a break light turn signal problem just after we got it. Got it fixed and have not had any issues since. Almost two years full time. My wife is on the Riverstone forum and no one ever has that type of slide issue. Yes they have some problems with some of the other models but nothing major no frames breaking and the repairs that the Grand Design owners have no where close.
Yay! Thanks for watching! Assuming your setup is the same, the only thing you can really do, is a visual check. These are rack and pinion slides, but it will not apply to Schwintek slides. Also, other rv brands are different. You will have to look at it from the outside and underneath either side of the slide (that was a mouthful), looking for any splits or cracks. Thankfully, we noticed ours before they split completely! Safe travels!
Yes! We actually received a message back from Grand Design afterwards, asking if we needed further help and it sounds like they are going to reimburse us for the part. Since it was not a factory part, we aren’t confident they will cover it, but we are attempting it. We will try to remember to circle back on here or a video and let you guys know the result!

Thank you for this. Especially like where you added the eternabond tape as extra protection. Yall definitely made it look easy.
Awesome, thanks! We were so intimidated and it was MUCH better than expected!
For something that at face value looks pretty daunting..... You guys made it look easy. thanks for the education.
It looked a LOT harder than it was, but we were nervous. We watched a lot of videos, prior to attempting it. 😁
