We’ve had our diesel truck for 5 years, and only use fuel additives every other tank. The montage was fun 😂! Happy birthday Angie’s Mom 🎉🎉! Thanks for Election Day relief! Safe Travels!
Great Election Day video. I’ve had a diesel Silverado for 4 years and pull a 5th wheel. I have never used a fuel additive and my long term mpg with the trailer is 10.1. I am now at 92,000 miles and the only repairs have been an injector wiring harness and a NOx sensor. I also have never used DEF additives. I try to fill at truck stops, otherwise I use Walmart Super-tech. I know that both of these will make purists apoplectic. However, no problems with the DEF system in 4 years. On a different note, I vote for the train horn. It is to much fun!
Great video and thanks for letting hang out with the family. Cody I hope you’re feeling better can’t wait until the next one. P.S Angela my wife did not won’t the train horns at first, but after we got them and she used them to keep car from backing into her. She loves them now she said it got the attention of the other driver fast. Also I know you’re a great person and love to make Cody happy. When I see your videos I can see the love and happiness y’all have together. I have been married for 36 year’s November 19th to my best friend and wife. So with that stay safe and happy travels.
Another great show Happy Birthday Mom Cody I used hotshot previously but switched to Archoil and I have noticed a improvement in mileage about 2-3 miles a gallon improvement but just a thought Thanks for sharing
I use Hotshot but I also use Archoil. I see better results with Archoil. I believe the additives reduce the amount of DEF the truck goes through. Mine uses very little. No DEF additives needed. Glad to see you joined the Ram Dually club. They are great trucks. Oh yeah, Ange let him have his horn!!
Watching the puppies play is a great way to take my mind off of the election. I may put this video on repeat and just watch it through the night. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
my hubby is a Cummns certifed diesel mechanic for over 10 years, worked on that specific engine for several years for a dealership and said he would not add anything to the fuel or to the DEF, the DEF system will be the first thing to give you issues period! love the new truck :)
Nice calming video. Hot shots been using it for 5 years great product. No need for DEF additives. Open Roads is great...Mudflap too. Ol' Smoke great name . Safe travels!!
Thank you! I did check out a Mudflap and it looked good too. I just don’t know if I can realistically think that I’ll go in each time for the discount. Know thyself, right? Ha! 😆

Hey guys 👋 😃, You have a farm also? Wow! You kids killed it. 😅 Nice. ✌️😁. 😂..... , Best life ever. Happy Birthday to your Mama. 🎂 ❤ the doggy time. Thanks again.
We have had Cummins Diesels since 1985 and have never used a Def additive. 600,000 miles. 12 mpg not a dually…lighter trailer than yours. We enjoy your videos.
Happy Election Day! Yes we already voted. We hoped you made through the tornadoes last night. It was really wicked. The wife cannot believe that you already got 4000 miles on Ole Smoke. Congratulations on the grand baby and give the puppies a hug for us. Stay safe.
☺️☺️Thank you! We were very lucky for a few days of bad weather. Honestly, we had a life-changing scare on Sunday, but it is still nothing compared to what a lot of people are dealing with. So scary! I hope you guys are good as well!
Thanks for the video. Lots of smiles as promised. I ALWAYS have smiles from your videos. As a dyed in the wool Ford 6.7 Powerstroke fan, I’m glad you like your Ram truck. IMHO, and from my research, fuel and especially DEF additives are a waste of money. But make your own choices. Sorry, but I’m with Angela: no train horn. Again IMHO, make your own decision but for me, it’s just a little cheesy. Love seeing you guys, and especially the little hairy kids! Get,and stay well, travel safely and have fun.
Those mpg numbers are close to what we get. We avg closer to 8 towing were usually around 18-19k lbs with the toy hauler. I don't use def additive as long as you keep it filled with fresh. I always run mine between 3/4 and 1/4 I've heard from a lot of people to not over fill the DEF tank because it can cause sensor issues. And I've ran the Peak Blue platinum in the box and ive ran it from the pump so far no problems from either. Eh food poisning sucks My brother got it when while we were in Costa Rica. Love the outtakes glad to see our dogs are not the only ones that get involved LoL. Stay Safe
Old smoke for a new truck. I don't know. Love your videos, and by the way, I'm buying my grandson. A train horn for his new truck for Christmas. Thanks to you guys.😂
Hi Angela, I do elder care and see a lot of sadness and love in my daily work. With that being said please remember we don’t have a long time here on this lovely place we call each our home. If that train horn puts a smile on your man’s face and some happiness in his soul then let him have it. Live, love and be happy for as long as you can. 💙🙏. Bunky.
No DEF additive used on our last two diesels. We have used Opti-Lube to improve the lubricity and cetane numbers. We went with Opti-Lube based on scar lubricity testing results. The added cetane is just an added benefit that comes with the product. I will avoid adding if the station I am filling up at has (BD) Bio-diesel. BD has the need lubricity already needed and in fact out performs ALL additives in previous scar testing. Angela cut loos those purse strings so Cody can get that train horn!! Happy/safe travels to you both-
Nice! I didn't realize bio diesel was better in terms of lubricity, I will keep that in mind! I'm with you on the DEF additive. We'll go broke buying chemicals if everything on the truck websites is to be believed haha
Your truck ain’t very old. Just call him Smokey. The opening scene with the Fall colors I could watch all day. A happy life is one filled with Train Horns. Just don’t ask me what makes a wife happy; I ain’t got one.
Such an awesome video on what is going to be a pretty crazy day! Happy Election Day! Big YES to Hot Shot fuel additive, it helps over time. I've driven more than 200K miles on diesels with DEF and have never used a DEF additive however I also don't keep the DEF tank full in the winter time if I'm somewhere the temp gets below 20 degrees. I've never had any problems with DEF freezing, but i don't want to either! Oh, and I'm one of those "Natural" diesel drivers...I don't do any tuning to my RAM, and it'll never lose any weight! Thanks for posting and we'll see you on the road!
Thank you! We're in the same boat. I'm all for accessories, but the mechanicals of the truck will stay bone stock. At the most, I may add air bags to the rear if we ever went to a trailer big enough to squat it. Thanks for the advice on the DEF additive. If you read these forums, you'd think you need ten different additives to go down the highway lol
@@RVUntethered Oh, airbags are definitely a good thing! They sure do help with hitching ever since we switched to a gooseneck hitch! My 2020 3500 dually came with the Ram Air Ride in the rear and I love it. If/when you add airbags, Dodge offers a switch you can add called "Alternate Height" which lowers your bed several inches prior to hitching and then levels your truck out when it's hitched. Super nice.
I use the edt as well for my dmax, that bottle will leak so don't keep it inside the truck because it stinks. No def additive either, just keep working the truck like you do and keep the idle time down and you'll keep the dpf happy.
Been owning my ram 2021 3500 6.7 cummins high output like yours. Bought it new to pull my 37 feet Arcadia and love it. No issues whatsoever . One important thing about def( since I live in Canada) if you travel in cold weather, Do not fill it to the max. I've been seing so many ram truck with this issue at my dealer garage. The top of the def tank freezes solid at 12 degrees fahrenheit and will stop the def pump from working properly. Hope this tip will help you 😃
Good info! I have heard this and plan to keep it 3/4 or less in winter conditions. I believe there's a def tank heater but I'm sure it only works when the engine is running (which would be too late). Thank you!
I vote train horn also. Cody, we’ve never used any def additive. The Ford has 268k on it using the Hot Shot fuel treatment and the Dodge Ram went 389k before the transmission went out no def issue with using Hot Shot additive.
Another great video, thanks for reminding people to get out and exercise their right to vote. Now Angela there is a song by Bob Seger called Hollywood Nights which addresses your facial expressions. It's called "Hollywood Nights" I'll let you figure out the rest. Yes you were. And if Cody wants a train horn open that purse and get him one. Like the saying for motorcycles "loud pipes saves lives" in this case " Loud horns save lives"
DEF can freeze that is why there is a heater for the system. So watch how low you get. Also if your truck goes into regeneration when your getting ready to park don't just turn it off. Let the DEF system do it's job
Long message warning. Watch the regens with Hotshots EDT, it has been known to cause frequent Regen and started to do so on my '22 HO. I still have a jug of it in the garage (EDT winter). May not impact you because you're always towing and burning the DPF out efficiently (passively), but those that daily and tow have seen Regen issues. Archoil has helped, but I'm still testing it and not sold yet. EGTs are higher though so far. DEF additives are snake oil. Just use DEF that isn't old and you're good. For the DEF.....Yes 3/4 tank max because RAM switched to an ultrasonic level sensor in 2019. It requires an air gap in the tank to measure. If you fill it up max you will get a code. RAM has a TSB on this I believe. The general consensus is fill up to 3/4 when you drop to 1/4... that's a 2.5 gallon box if you use those. Sorry again for the long message. Cheers!
I’ve been running DEF diesel for a while now. There is no evidence fuel additives improve anything. Some say certain additives extend run time between regeneration. As far as DEF additives…… waste of money. DEF fluid is pretty simple as it is. If you want to do anything, get the truck aligned because so many aren’t in alignment when would new. Also think about replacing shocks and steering stabilizer. I haven’t done this yet but will very soon. Also this isn’t your grandpa’s diesel. Due to the DEF system and internal lubricant pressure, it doesn’t like to idle. So don’t leave it running when you go to the feed store. I run my exhaust brake on auto all the time unless towing in the mountains then I run full exhaust brake and lock it down in 4 or 5 ( depends). You have the Aisin Transmission. I have the 68RFE. Just watch for over shifting under load in mountains that’s why I lock it in 4 or 5. Your Aisin has shorter service intervals, so watch those intervals. Your truck is awesome and will put the snot out of a summer hog
This is good info! I haven't had a "modern" diesel & my mechanic experience is all pre DPF but I deal with these on the commercial side & learned long ago idle is no bueno. I try to keep it just enough to give the engine a 2 - 3 minute cool down period after running it hard for the sake of the turbos. Over idling kills that DPF system. I am loving the exhaust brake, always on auto like you said. I forgot it the other day and I was like "what's wrong with the brakes?!?!" LOL. Shock wise, I'll probably wear out the stock set & move to Bilsteins. I loved those on my Ford. I did notice the shorter service interval on the Aisin, overall I think I'd rather overservice the transmission for sure. Nothing on these trucks are cheap to work on.
5th Cummins FB group guys seem to like Archoil fuel additive especially if regens are more frequent. I've used Power Service fuel additive since 1st fill up bc Cummins endorced but when I run out I'm trying Archoil.
I never fill my def more that half way and alwasy add a box at the quarter mark, mine has a 10 gal tank. I do this because DEF does not age well, keeping it fresh is suppose to help. I have a Motor Home, not a pickup, so my method may not apply to you. Good luck with your new toy!
Once you go train horn...you can't go back. Ram needs a train horn. No DEF additives here...I'm not getting into the fuel additive debate. Keep on making great content!
Well, it was a good attempt to distract us, but it might be a long night tonight. My poll location at the local HS gym here in NH was more packed than I've ever seen it. It was pretty relaxed, because neighbors here may have different signs in their yards, but nobody considers each other a threat to disturb the peace over who sits in the White House. We've all survived the worst person the other side has gotten there, at some point.
We haven’t seen anything bad either. Just real people being neighborly. Funny how it’s different in person, versus online, eh? We’ll get through it. ☺️
I can't tell you specifically about Dodge, but that 2500 l5p only liked the blue def and definitely NOT the platinum version. I have NO CLUE why it burn through the walmart cheap version.
It's election day, and we need to vote on an Amendment of train horn or not! This is not all about Angie.. I vote for the must have get out of my way train horn!
Ok, I guess I gotta be odd-woman-out and represent anti-horn for Angela. Buy him a gong or a triangle instead. Oooh, or line the front end in kazoos 🤪😆
Man I love you guys! Yes the state of things in the world and not just in our country, is causing a lot of stress and anxiety. Thank you for bringing us this video today!! You guys rock! 😊 I’m wondering if this new ACT law in CA and in 5 other states where they are refusing to allow diesel motorhomes to register there, will carry over to the one ton trucks? As I’m still thinking about getting a toy hauler and diesel dually. Guess we need to just see what happens. Also loved the animals and the music in this one!
We got the shirts off of patriotcrew.com Cody saw the advertisement for them on sale (they often come in large packs) and got them. He loved the feel so much, that he ordered more and then ordered some for me. I admit, they are extremely comfortable! I got the women's medium and he the men's large.

I vote train horn also. Cody, we’ve never used any def additive. The Ford has 268k on it using the Hot Shot fuel treatment and the Dodge Ram went 389k before the transmission went out no def issue with using Hot Shot additive.
That’s awesome! Thank you.
Old Smoke? Get a bicycle bell, no one expecting that.
🤣🙋♀️I keep telling him that if he gets a musical horn, we’d have a different conversation!
Happy Birthday to Angie's Mom!
☺️Thanks!
We are familiar with the song. Haha! You're too funny!
You guys are a BAD influence on Cody! ;)
DEF can freeze that is why there is a heater for the system. So watch how low you get. Also if your truck goes into regeneration when your getting ready to park don't just turn it off. Let the DEF system do it's job
Great tips! Thank you!
Cheers!
Thanks for this that’s great info! So far I’ve added def at half a tank without an issue but I plan to keep it at 3/4 max once it gets cold.
I don't run any def addictive. All I do is when the gauge reads 1/2 tank i add a complete 2.5 gallon box of def. Never save an open container of def.
Thank you!
Fuel additives. I retired 3 years ago with forty years otr trucking. Used power service all the time and power service anti jell for winter
Thank you so much!
Love you guys. I hope to meet up soon if you are in AZ.
We have some plans to finalize yet, but we are trying to put some stuff together to make ourselves more available. 😊
Hope you are feeling better Cody Best to not mention the train horns while Ang is cooking lol
🤣🤣Sound advice!
I've been towing R VS for 10 years and driving semi. Trucks for forty years and own three trucks and one pick up and never will.I add def additives
Thank you!!
Lucus is tried and true additive
Thanks!
Lots of Angela would be great.
Tell Ang that if the train horn is a money issue, we will start a Go Fund Me page for a new horn😂😂
😁🤦🏼♀️Not doing this again! 🤣
Happy Election Day!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🙏🙏🙏

Come on Angela, a train horn is a great ego boost. Plus kids and grand kids love it!
Ha! You guys are BAD influences! LOL
Angela, be an angel and let Cody put a train horn on Old Smoke❤!
🤦🏼♀️I just can’t…. 🤣
Arkansas-where my family has been since the early 1700’s.
Really?! That’s awesome!
Angie he has to have a Train Horn it a diesel. Please pretty please. You know your man wants one. Lol
He WANTS a lot! 🤣
Air horn definitely!
You guys are a bad influence! 😁
@ na , order it !
5th Cummins FB group guys seem to like Archoil fuel additive especially if regens are more frequent. I've used Power Service fuel additive since 1st fill up bc Cummins endorced but when I run out I'm trying Archoil.
Okay, thanks! I saw it around some of the forums too, but I don’t know much about it.
I have been running one for ever and no I don’t add anything and everything is great
Perfect , thank you!
Starting a train horn fund for Cody. 🤣
That is very nice, thank you! But I'm sorry to tell you that you guys are a BAD influence on my Cody! hehe.
@@RVUntethered Poor Cody, being all sick and you deprive him of the one thing that will make his spirits really bright, a train horn for Old Smoky.
@@gakrazykajun🤦🏼♀️😂
My vote is for “Ole Smoke” gets a train horn.
🤣🙋♀️No.
Consider it a safety device. Angelia ain’t against safety is she?
Happy birthday to her mom.
I like all of the steaks on the hoof.
Yep,...Peek A Boo with the cow behind the tree! Give me a 6 pack, and that could be an all day video... Just saying. 🙂
🤣Right?! They are so funny!
Choo Chooo...📯
Peer Pressure! :)
If you use bulk DEF at the fuel island, I would add DEF additive, if not by the box and don’t need to add attitude
Interesting! Thanks!
I never fill my def more that half way and alwasy add a box at the quarter mark, mine has a 10 gal tank. I do this because DEF does not age well, keeping it fresh is suppose to help. I have a Motor Home, not a pickup, so my method may not apply to you. Good luck with your new toy!
Thank you very much!!
Come on Ang. Let the man have his train horn.
😁
Once you go train horn...you can't go back. Ram needs a train horn. No DEF additives here...I'm not getting into the fuel additive debate. Keep on making great content!
HA! Thanks! Baaaad influence! ;)
You can't hide that cattle gaurd.

Bought it for power and capacity. It's a joke right... High output Ford Power stroke is for that....,😁
😁
Order the horn, buy her a new disco ball planter .....problem solved !
🤣🤣🤣
I can't tell you specifically about Dodge, but that 2500 l5p only liked the blue def and definitely NOT the platinum version. I have NO CLUE why it burn through the walmart cheap version.
Interesting! I'm so clueless on this stuff. I guess some of it is trial and error.
Thanks for the info!
It's election day, and we need to vote on an Amendment of train horn or not! This is not all about Angie.. I vote for the must have get out of my way train horn!
🤣🤣🤦🏼♀️NO
@RVUntethered recalling your 'no' vote, sorry!
Ok, I guess I gotta be odd-woman-out and represent anti-horn for Angela. Buy him a gong or a triangle instead. Oooh, or line the front end in kazoos 🤪😆
🤣👆 I like the way you think!
No deff additives here. Our ram tows fifth wheel and farm trailers.
Awesome, thank you!
Stick with Hot Shots Secret it keeps everything so clean it’s crazy!! Used it for many years. Use every 6000 miles Diesel Extreme also.
Perfect, thank you!
When did you get the cattle guard on the new truck? Did I miss a video? What brand did you go with?
😁 It’s in Saturday’s video (briefly). I went with Ranch Hand, which I’ve had good luck with before. I was able to get a good deal on it.
Cody.... which one of the Angela faces will she make when you get the train horns???
🤣It isn’t appropriate for television.
I bet old smoke gets a train horn!
Old Smoke is the silent type. 🤣
No additives. And no train horn.
Thanks!
I like wet hair. Love truck!
😁
Man I love you guys! Yes the state of things in the world and not just in our country, is causing a lot of stress and anxiety.
Thank you for bringing us this video today!! You guys rock! 😊
I’m wondering if this new ACT law in CA and in 5 other states where they are refusing to allow diesel motorhomes to register there, will carry over to the one ton trucks? As I’m still thinking about getting a toy hauler and diesel dually. Guess we need to just see what happens. Also loved the animals and the music in this one!
I have heard a few of the rumblings, but I'm not overly educated on it.
Where do you get those T-Shirts with the flag on the sleeve?
We got the shirts off of patriotcrew.com
Cody saw the advertisement for them on sale (they often come in large packs) and got them. He loved the feel so much, that he ordered more and then ordered some for me. I admit, they are extremely comfortable! I got the women's medium and he the men's large.
So sorry Ang..........................TRAIN HORN!!!!!!
😁You guys are a bad influence!
Nice video, what’s up Girl, no horn. Just SAD
🤦🏼♀️Peer pressure!! 🤣
Cody needs a train horn on old smoke.
Oh man! You guys are a BAD influence! 😁

Voted for Trump this morning, felt great.
I've heard bad things about additives, not sure if there true or not.
I am getting so me varying opinions on it. It is such a learning curve for us!
