I love how she got in the pool and immediately started slapping all the other kids. She's a menace and I love it.
She came out trying to scarp
Then she tried to do the same thing to an Orca and died. This isn’t a joke, her body washed up on the beach six months later, her tag was identified. In captivity she didn’t learn anything of predators, and thus lost her life.

I may have had my doubts about the survival of some of the animals in the rescue stories, but I am totally convinced Cloudberry is alive, well, and thriving!

Some comments here say that it would be impossible for Cloudberry to have survived the long trip back to her natural home. That's like saying it would be impossible for an arctic seal like Cloudberry to be found near Ireland...yet there she was. She has a better chance of making it this time, being older, wiser, and bigger.
Please don't discourage any humans who are doing the best they know how to make the world a better place for all creatures, great or small.
The reality that most wild animals don’t live as long as those in captivity because of natural predators and possibly not catching enough food is just a reality that animal rescuers are aware of. Regardless of whether you’re a regular person rescuing a baby squirrel or raccoon, or you’re a full fledged rehabber that works with a group like this. Doesn’t mean they’re less enthusiastic about helping animals.

Normally I’d worry, but Cloudberry is so stubborn and strong-tempered, so even if her journey is long, she’ll be okay. And I assume she’ll naturally go towards colder oceans!
Too bad they couldn’t get her closer, but the fact they made a long drive to do the best they could amongst covid restrictions was really heartwarming and reassuring. :)

Even though they had few options, I really feel that releasing Cloudberry, even at the most Northern tip of Ireland, is such a long shot!! Cloudberry only had few experiences hunting live prey, and only swam circles in the nursery pool. Do they really think she can handle the oceans and make her way to the Arctic now?

If she worked her way up along the Scottish coast and used the Orkneys as a stepping stone she might have encountered other ringed seals as soon as the Shetlands. The route would take her through some of the most productive herring spawning sites. She probably has difficulties getting on those ice floats by now because of her amazing rotundness.

I've lived on svalbard, and there we had something called "the svalbard bonus". Basically, most people who move there put on weight when they're there and lose it when they move back to the mainland. Weight gain in the cold is a real thing
I seriously hope and pray that this seal is alive and well and absolutely loving the ocean. I always worry when animals are released that they may feel abandoned. I know they probably don't, but if they've been with humans so long it seems likely. She is HILARIOUS and adorable, and I would love the heck out of this seal.

Ringed seals are mostly solitary animals, which sometimes form loose, temporary groups but they don't gather in colonies like other seal species.
