I personally love the performance by the actor who played the thug with the snake tattoo but because of his highly unlikeable character, his acting is not appreciated as much as the other actors'...

I can give an explanation why Sang-woo (218) choose not to tell Gi-hun (456) about the second game. Remember after the first game when majority of players voted to end the games. Sang-woo was the one who pointed out the players had the right to end the games by majority vote (even though he still wanted to continue after seeing the prize money) and it showed his loyalty from the beginning. However, Sang-woo began to realize him being an upstanding character screwed his chances to clear up his problems. If he had not opened his mouth about the vote, he would still would be competing. After receiving another chance to participate, Sang-woo decided not to make the same mistake again. Plus, he knows the type of character Gi-hun is: friendly, caring for others. He strongly thought that if he told Gi-hun about the second game, the latter would have told others about it and it lowered Sang-woo’s chances of succeeding. Even though he’s not proud what he did there, Sang-woo felt he had no choice and being the character he was in the first game, loyal and caring, was not going to help in his life that he is trying so hard to fix.
There's a much deeper interpretation to all the main characters. Each represents different factions of society. Sang-woo represents the elite class. He attended an Ivy League school (Korean version) and worked in the "Wallstreet" as a fund manager. He was groomed to be calculating, self-serving, and make decisions based on "profit" rather than morale. In the beginning, it's difficult to see where Sang-woo's character stands. He seems to be a good man caring for people in need. He stood up for the people (less educated) to procure a group vote. He also gave ALi his last $20 bill. According to the director/writer, Sang-woo gave money, though he was dead broke, to show that he was in a higher class and display virtue.
Gi-hoon is the direct opposite of Sang-woo. He's from the working class. He seems incredibly inept -- a bad father, even worse son. But you do see glimpses of a kind-hearted person and integrity. He feeds a stray cat the fish he bought for dinner. He could have quietly taken the money from his daughter's stepdad but chose not to compromise his relationship with his daughter.

I feel for you with the graphic scenes! Not to spoil anything but I'd say you've been through the worst with this episode, it doesn't get that graphic (fight wise) in the later episodes, but the story progesses GREATLY.
as far as brutality this is def as bad as it gets but emotionally it just escalates lol

It's good for me to watch reactions like Kazzy's from time to time to remind me that her reaction is healthy and what should be normal. We should all be genuinely horrified and viscerally sick at the sight of such violence, but we've largely become desensitized and jaded. Her reaction would've been the norm 60+ years ago.

I’m just so used to seeing violence in movies that I don’t even jump unless it’s insanely brutal (the most recent time I’ve jumped was when Batman beat the ever living crap out of the thug with face paint on in the new movie)

Great job, Cassie!👏This is a very difficult and emotional series to react to. South Korea is really on a role with the Parasite movie, Train to Busan (which I though was a current movie but came out in 2016), and of course this series. Nice to see another country getting praise for film making.

This was the most intense scene and episode in the series in my opinion so if you can make it through this then you can make it through the rest.

I feel for you Kazzy, this episode is the most graphic and violent, found it hard to get through the night scene. I dont think it needed to be so graphic, but everything else is amazing about the show
I think it did. This show hadn’t pulled any punches up to this point. We have seen brutal violence from the first episode and this midnight massacre just really cemented what the stakes were in the game. Plus, it showed how easy it is for people to lose their humanity when deprived of basic needs like enough food and water. Making things less graphic would, imo, have lessened the impact. It could have been worse. Because of the dark and the strobing lights, we can hardly see anything that’s happening. Imagine if it was full light in the room.

Hi @KazzyReacts love your reactions, just wanted to suggest for the next episodes until the end of this first season, please make sure to either listen/watch more calming/relaxing music/films after watching Squid Game, because this show is very stressful, violent and difficult to watch (depending on how people perceive violence and/or what they can handle, although your reactions are what experts think is the more humane approach/natural feeling). Not gonna lie, the next chapters will literally exhaust your heart/ brain emotionally, you'll feel tired after watching, the story is amazing and everything will gradually make sense as your connect the missing dots. Please don't give up on the show, you can do it! The quality is top tier, the acting impeccable, the violence is shown for a reason, it's not gratuitous. Wishing you have a great time while viewing the rest! All the best, good luck! :D
PS - Maybe get some tissues, water and If you can get a friend to keep you company, that would be awesome and helpful.

I think as the show does not rely on the "western" film making and viewwing conventions (like hybris, nemesis, catarsys or the good guys will win in the end), the western audience is getting that ahocked and involved at the same time.
This was borrowed a bit by Game of Thrones as well. But it happens in many "eastern" movies and shows too. Take the revenge trilogy with Oldboy, Lady Vengance and Sympathy for Mr. Vengance
