Goku tips and tricks! As always covering a wide area from basic moveset to esoteric things like hitbox difference between seemingly similar animations between the Goku's! *edit* as brought up on these comments, I did forget to mention Base Goku's assist does not scale like other assists! It uses up one "normal" hit of scaling, rather than the more severe scaling assists are usually subject to.
Its basically the same deal in that its just all about timing. Is there a specific aspect you are wondering about?

Is it possible to get a lvl 3 charge by DHCing goku in from a long super(think beerus or gotenks), whiffing and then charging the spirit bomb, or do they recover too quick?
Yamcha can DHC into Spirit bomb as well, but you have to manually send them upwards lol

If you react to an opponent's super dash just do the level 3 raw. They will dash right into it. It's funny

Solid video again Roofle! One detail that deserved mentioning with regards to the Spirit Bomb is that it has 2 properties which greatly enhance Baseku's neutral: first, it beats every non super projectile in the game. So if your opponent likes to control neutral by spamming beams, you can throw the bomb and punish them. The thing tears right through em. This will force those kinds of player to play a more passive neutral, especially if you have a level 3 bomb charged. Second, the bomb tracks the opponent slightly. It will curve up towards an airborne opponent, so even though the move is grounded it can be used against aerial opponent. Both of those qualities means that if you can invest into charging the move, you gain an immense advantage in neutral since you can threaten a 7kish punish against any ranged special in the game if you have 3 bars on deck.
I noticed you also gain a healthy amount of bar from the lend me your energy charge + level one blast.
I just watched the Kaioken tips video and thought "But where's the Tips and Tricks video?" Not even a few hours later, Rooflemonger delivers.

Currently running Broly, SSJ Goku, and Goku. The Broly level 1 into Spirit Bomb makes even a light grab in the corner into a 60% combo. As if people didn’t already have a reason to be afraid of those hands.
I’m running the same build but with black instead of SSJ Goku as I’m more comfortable with black
I'm running Black, SSJ Goku, and Base Goku. Stop laughing, I know it's 3 Goku's, but they really do compliment each other. Base Goku's assist opens up some unique combo paths for Goku Black, and all three characters work wonders as the last one standing so even if switching out isn't really doing well for me and my whole order is thrown out of whack, I won't be completely screwed over since none of these characters rely on assists. For example, I won't be like, assistless Broly, cuz let's be honest Broly does TERRIBLY as the last guy.
Oh, and beam assist makes getting the normal Spirit Bomb a bit easier, I can go into a sliding knockdown, call one assist, sequentially call the other as I charge, and if I do it right I should be covered for the whole charge and have enough time to continue my pressure.
On a side note, how does one avoid that whole grab mix up against Broly? I've tried attacking him, but it's armored even from projectiles, Vanish is out as it breaks his armor now so I can't get a decent punish. Dragon Rush doesn't cut it, and it's obvious I can't block it. Even when I know it's coming, I can't seem to do anything, though I probably sound like an idiot who has no idea what he's talking about.
@@Ender41948 the fact that vanish isn't absorbed by his armor anymore is especially to prevent such easy punish. Try to jump, vanish to escape if you're in the corner or just raw level 3 if you can react/predict the grab
Besides that, don't be angry with ma boy Broly, his grab is what makes him enjoyable :)

In order for me to get the level 3 charge for"lend me your energy" basically i just keep distance from my opponent and use the 2 assists and then charge level 3 immeadiatly..
And for maximum damage(spirit bomb+super spirit bomb)
Just do a standing heavy then spirit bomb(launch the spirit bomb immeadiatly after the standing heavy) after launching the spirit bomb just use your super spirit bomb...
Dont forget to make sure you have enough ki :D

Another detail worth mentioning about "Lend me your Energy" is that you can charge it, and swap Goku out, and he'll still have it when he comes back in.

A few times I have baited a superdash by doing just the level 1 spirit bomb charge in neutral, then punished the dash with a raw Super Spirit Bomb and LMFAO... if you want to make someone rage quit, that is a surefire way to do it apparently

Really wish you'd leave the damage counter on when you do these tutorials, it really helps get a better idea of how strong certain moves and strings are. I'm sure you have a reason why you don't, but this is me raising my hand in class and making a suggestion.
Base Goku seems surprisingly fun to learn. I look forward to seeing players make use of his Spirit Bomb gimmicks.
I never realized the meter gain during the Spirit Bomb charge ALONE until now. Plus when you use it, thats almost a full meter. That's pretty great.
Also worth mentioning that with the assist if you SD before the opponent wall bounces, you can get a significantly greater amount of corner carry. Can basically go corner to corner with a number of characters this way.

You say base Goku screams anchor, but honestly to me he screams point. "Lend me your energy!" and the small spirit bomb both build a lot of meter (I'm surprised you didn't mention this, look at the meter gain when he uses either one!) and with the right assist and the right hitconfirm you can charge the spirit bomb and launch it in the same combo, ideally without spending meter so you can reap the benefits of that insane meter gain. (e.g. 236M in the corner, 2M, 5H, Yamcha assist & 214S, 2M, go from there).
That said he does seem to have unique tools whether he's played point or anchor, which I love. Opening up multiple viable playstyles with one character is always welcome in my book.
To me honestly its just a lot of busy work to work in all that kind of stuff, when you can just be going for the tried and true and save assists and effort. The only goku that works as point is Goku blue as far as I am concerned due to the (much better) command grab and the teleport shenanigans.

For setting up the Spirit Bomb, my favorite partner for that is Yamcha, for a number of reasons.
First off, Yamcha's assist is great for buying some time to charge up the regular Spirit Bomb. Maybe not full, but every bit helps.
Second, the Spirit Ball is great for DHCing into it by directing it to launch up and behind him.
Third, it's honestly thematically appropriate. The two old friends from 34(!) years ago teaming up with their super techniques from back when Dragon Ball was a martial arts comedy centered around techniques and special moves instead of power levels to blow through something that horribly outclasses them in terms of canon power.

FighterZ confirmed through hitboxes that Goku's been skipping leg day since the Saiyan saga.
Is anybody else excited to see someone use kaioken to break through someone's guard, rather than just as a combo finisher? If someone wins a tournament set by pulling off a clutch kaioken mixup I would be hype beyond words.
You know you can counter a kaioken (even x20) super by just jumping out of the way. The super is extremely horizontal so doing raw would be a big risk.
Edjo so does the 2S hit grounded somehow?
Luc Lee I don't know what 2S is cause I haven't learn any of those terms since I'm new to fighting games, but for what I know base Goku's kaioken can continue as long as a hit is confirm even blocked. The kaioken will only stop if the enemy doesn't get hit once or it is reflected once.
Edjo 2S is numpad notation for Down + Ki Blast, but my question was rhetorical, so don't worry
Also you can hold the mini spirit through out the duration of the match, you don’t need to recharge it if you tag out,so you can tag him in to get the lvl 3 charge using assist then tag him out and he still holds the lvl 3 charge even after you lost two characters on the team, this is good because you start off with it so can get rid of that problem character and don’t have to take dmg to charge it at least once in the round.
There needs to be a kaioken counter (like numerical count) so you know where you’re at when you’re doing it. Or you should be able to press the four facing buttons at the end of the sequence to perform the finisher.
Blocking the lvl3 will do a lot of chip damage
Technicality, but Android 16 has a level 3 that does more damage than Spirit Bomb or Chiaotzu :) thanks so much for the guide! These are extremely useful for competitive players that don't want to play these characters and don't have the time to explore them. I watch these and feel generally prepared for the matchup.
Something I noticed is that the Fully Charged Spirit Bomb doesn't let you hit your level 3 if you're near the corner. For some reason, I do the same timing as I do midscreen but it doesn't hit. Also, you can call assists during Lend Me Your Energy, so you don't need to try and get a combo beforehand.
I think it's also worth mentioning that if the enemy tries to vanish when you use Spirit Bomb, it punishes the vanish.
Is it just me or since there’s been a movie/special dlc, fused dlc and now a base form dlc, there should be a Nappa dlc where we get ghost Nappa and business man Nappa who are both voiced by the abridged voice actor. Oh and give em a pokeball

This is like the phoenix wright of this game you gotta protect yourself to ger the evidence (spirit charge ) and if you throw the spirit ball is almost like an OBJECTION
I'm calling that both Base Goku and Base Vegeta will climb on the Tier List real fast. After playing rank this last weekend I've seen some nasty setups against very good players .... especially the Spirit Bomb, that thing will become the nightmare of many players.
I've already foreseen players complaining in the comments section. Ohh man ... they will.
Rooflemonger you can also combo into spirit bomb after a launcher use ssj goku super kamehameha after a regular kamehameha aimed straight at the wall at the top of the screen. It does more damage than dragonfist into warp kamehameha i believe, if u only have 4 bars.

For the "Lend Me Your Energy" gimmick, since I use the strong Goku team (Black no Blue. Blue has an horrible assist), you can recharge and delay the call of any of those 2 (Black or SSJ), and you will have enough time to charge it completely. So far I have been able with those assists, charge to lvl 3 this move. It´s mostly in zoning situations since he can´t do that.
Also roof, I saw this in another vanish punish video for Base Goku, and while the tackle will work with characters that have short range jabs like let´s say, Teen Gohan and Gotenks, the Medium version will not work with characters that have long reaching auto combos, like Cell or Black. To be able to punish their autocombos, you need to step back and do the EX version, since the EX version gets you a little bit further back that the 2nd hit of the autocombo can´t reach.
Something I also noticed about the Spirit Bomb: it does MASSIVE chip damage. If your opponent isn't a good reflector, you can use it raw on their last character to basically force a KO (Unless they can vanish you out of it, I haven't checked)
They definetly can, there's time to charge a bar of super and still vanish
Finn Marr-Heenan I only questioned it because I watched somebody try to vanish it, then the Spirit Bomb grabbed them and they got KO'd

If you get hit out of the animation you can still retain the charge... so like at what point in the animation is the charge... like... stored?

Here’s one for kaioken
If you do raw kaioken and instantly go into the kaioken finisher you would deal almost half of the opponent’s hp
One trick I do to get level 3 spirit bomb is using 2 assist...i use kid buu to keep them blocking and in the middle of me charging I call in Bardock and his assist pushes them farther away to keep me safe...after I can even down M to keep the pressure but its a tight timing so most time I don't since I lose my assists

both. I spend a lot of time in training mode and I go around to see whats out there. I'd be doing a disservice to yall if I didn't honestly. The hitbox on the normals thing for example I had no idea til it was shown to me.

Finn Marr-Heenan does not work like that because of assists

That is actually a cool idea. But how would that work in reverse order? Like if ssj Goku died and Goku was up next.

I found a glitch with base Goku while messing around with friends, if you use ginyus body change then kill "Ginyu", Goku uses Kaioken x20

Couldn't you have 18 protect Goku as you charge?
Doesn't last near long enough, and can't save you from any kind of super.
You could, 18 and 21 would be good assists for full charge, 18 with goku is good if you justwant the level one. My advice is go for the blasts or beams if you really want 18 and goku on your team

Kashaun Morris again if you want full charge you want someome different, however 18 by herself isnt an option if you want to fully charge
It’s situational. Won’t help you at all if they block, but if you happen to land the assist, you can just scrape the full charge. You might have to eat a combo for it but if you land that first spirit bomb you can turn the tide of the entire match

I wonder how kaioken interacts with resurrection through dragon balls. Like if you have 2 and resurrect the 3rd character, do you still get ×3? What if that 3rd one dies again? Would you get ×20? I gotta test this further...

rooflemonger thank so similar to characters like Frieza you run him on point to fill out the charges, in Frieza’s case golden install, then switch to eventually reek the benefits of storing charges early. Since Goku is anchor to end all anchors.

I feel like base goku is the best baiting anchor because of his kaioken. If he catches you doing a beam, you can just go into a x20 kamehameha for 4000 DMG! thats a lot on a last character and by that point there probably wont be any sparking. He can bait with his down S, or his spirit bomb charge or his kaioken. and if he catches you super dashing, he'll just spirit bomb you and your most likely dead.
Also a really good combo ender for other characters to DHC into
Shahaan Mirza Naw there are way more people that can blow you up.So You can hit him out of Kaioken so you need to hit cobfirm it on higher levels. Also no one is going to super dash Goku if he has 3 bar unless the are playing on auto pilot.

Not a move that's ever gonna happen in a real match so I don't count it.
