when you say that "italians want new faces" you should mention that giorgia has been in the parliament for the past 25 years and that's clear not the reason why so many people are switching to this "new" face. rather than looking at what people see, we should be understanding how she has been portraited by italian medias.

Well, Italy, Sweden, Denmark (in some regards), Germany... If you want to know the reason why this kind of movements are growing, there is a simple answer to that - people were saying loud and clear what they don't like in the "left" wing government policies and nobody listened, nobody cared. So this is what you get. And by no means I support any kind of extremists, but I sure see where did this come from. And it's gonna get worse with all the stuff going on in the world and in Europe.

Fascism only takes root when the establishment has utterly failed. They take genuine grievances that are unaddressed, ignored, or even caused by the establishment, and promise solutions to the suffering populace when no more palatable option will. That's no less true now than it has always been. I don't know enough about Italian politics to make an informed judgement here on her politics, but if she is a fascist, then the other Italian politicians need to look at themselves and ask themselves some seriously pointed questions.

@Hello World Everything she says is anti-EU policy. The fact she isn't publicly isn't playing hardball against the EU is because Italy is taking so much immigrants because they get the most money of the EU recovery funds. Italy won't survive without the EU. She never getting a deal on immigration from the EU. The EU would sanction Italy. Then you'll see Meloni anti-EU stance. That's her trick! You can see it coming from a mile off. She wouldn't have any power though. Italy would fall into poverty without the EU.
The fact is that Italy is stuck. They follow Europe's policies or they fall. Imagine Italy going back to the Lire currency and discover that now suddenly everything is twice as expensive as it was compared to when they had the Euro. Inflation would be through the roof. While Euro debt to gdp falls with 20% because Italy is out. The EU wins in every way. Maybe not in unity, but certainly in money. The EU would also make a example of Italy when they decide to leave the EU. This is not gonna be like the Brexit in any way, shape or form.

There is political instability not only in Italy but also in some other European nation such as German and Czech. Most of these instability was the result of the gas prices and the fact that there are many in Italy who did not approve of sending weapons to Ukraine resulting in a disappointment from the people. Bad economy produce disappointment, With Disappointment comes Political instability, With Political instability comes unrest, with Unrest comes radicals.
Or so that's how the cycle used to rotate. I don't know what the German people think about their Foreign Minister openly saying "I will put Ukraine first no matter what my German voters think or how hard their life gets", Democracy should have allowed them to get a saying in this matter like asking if the population
(the voters) are ok with this. I guess it makes sense to help the people in most need first but then again, Their whole nation is in need of something as well and so far they did not get it. Anybody wouldn't be surprised if suddenly some radicals gains much more influence because the situation created by the current government and the EU will turn them to became the symbol of change if things keep going down hill.
Seriously though, European Economy and American Economy is currently going down probably straight to the toilet. If nobody can save it, i guess it will be better to pick a new leader, preferably someone who has the toilet paper to clean up the mess.
Note: I don't think Giorgia is a fascist though, she might be right-leaning but not to that level. She had amazing skills behind the podium though, that alone can secure her a seat in the government, you know, like Obama but better.

SOME noisy italian leftists, who are as well pro-russian, former communists and anti americans, are against helping Ukraine.
This happens because they are frustrated that we - as a nation - are not a happy communist place, where they can torture people.
The percentage of italian communists, FYI, lie in approx. 3/4% of the voters.
They are nothing but they make a lot of noise, just because nobody shut them up in the name of pluralism.
The largest part of italian people is indeed horrified by the russian fascism and their war of aggression.
Meloni already added 2 motorized rocket launchers (of the 12 we have in total) to be added to our military help to Ukraine (they are similar to the Himars, just to give a context); this adds to the almost complete stock of motorized 155mm Howitzers (made in Italy in the late seventies) that Draghi already sent in the Kherson area. The so called "pacifists" screaming against "arms sent to Ukraine" are few junkies from social centres, heirs of the dead and buried Italian Communist Party. Don't bother: all they can do is smoke dope, wash poorly and talk nonsense.
Italian here, You can trust what I say.
And no, Italy is not returning to fascism, this is IMPOSSIBLE: we are vaccinated already.
Unfortunately Russia, N Korea, China and some other authoritarian disgraced countries have still that old virus we have unfortunately invented.
      But not Italy, ever again.
It is more likely to hear Kamala and Brandon making coherent sentences, than italians attempting again to rebuild the roman empire.

Fascists are just as pro-totalitarian as the far left though. And fascism at its core is against democracy and against dissent of opinion. A peculiarity of Italy is that there are often technical governments, unlike other countries they are not temporary to bring the country to elections but these are more durable, making very unpopular policies, having no voter constraint, like the toughest covid measures in all European Union (covid pass in all public places even at work, masks outside, compulsory vaccine). In cases like Draghi the popularity of the prime minister may be high (on the other hand Mario Draghi is Mario Draghi) but the other ministers are not very popular. In addition, there are parties that despite the votes received are below 20%, due to wrong choices made by parties with more votes, have been severely conditioning the country's politics for over 10 years. All this creates great disaffection in the electorate, which votes only in protest, bringing many faces to parties that in other opinions perhaps would not enter parliament, in fact Fdi was the only consistant party against Draghi government.

She is far right, against eu, against euro, a flat tax that benefits only the rich, all the problems are because of immingrants, italy as the best nation-culture-religion, against social programs, against abortion, against lgbt, she uses a fascist symbol ecc she is 100% far right/neofascist. If it feels-smells-acts-talks like a fascist, she probably is one.

From what I’ve researched, a fascist regime requires a dictatorship. I gather it’s communism with charisma. But she’s an elected official. So labeling her seems wrong to me.

Facism exists on the left and right. Both ends of the spectrum seek to control.

A simple answer; Weakness. Fascism is a symptom of personal failings coalescing into a fear filled power move. It is comprised of the most weak willed and weak minded among us, those who fall in the face of authority or act like cowards in the face of adversity. This is a sign that Italy and her people have weakened to the point that they now wish to let fear overrule them
