  • I was inspired by a tambour mat to build a wooden MTG playmat for game nights.
    And the astute viewers will notice this is an identical video to another I posted, same Thumbnail, title, length, and description-
    I am doing a test to see if voiceover or text gets more attractions, so be sure to like the one you prefer!

    Great build. I'm thinking of building one for my son. Thanks! You are a funny guy, keep it coming when you can.

    Great video! I enjoyed watching the trial and error. I always struggle with experimentation thinking I'm wasting materials.

      I feel kinda the same way, But thats part of the fun, worst case scenario, ya have some scraps to play with later

      Dude that's one of the coolest compliments I could have gotten
      Hope you enjoyed them
      The older ones are definitely..... "less refined"

    Hey nicely done. Love seeing the trial and error. Too many creators make things look like they hit it out of the park on the first try. You show the true steps it takes to make something for the first time and not give up just because it didn't work to expectations right away. This technique could be used for many things and the fact that it rolls up and can be stored easily is outstanding. Think of dinner placemats, covers for glass top stoves and countertops to make it work as a prep area or cutting board... hmmm could be just a simple, easily storable way to protect any surface from being scratched. Pretty cool.

      ooo- I like the cutting board idea, would need to be workshopped due to juices flowing between gaps... but I like where your head is at!

    oo i love this idea. I think the next upgrade is if you can laser a design on it. I bet that would look cool with a wood burned design on a tambour mat.

    • @thewannabecraftsman
      @thewannabecraftsman  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, lasers would be cool.... any chance you have an extra you can lend me?
      It legit would be nice though, there are a few projects I want to do that I do NOT have the skills to carve/draw, but a laser etching it would...

    First, I feel like the VO is better than the text version by far.
    Second, not sure if you've seen the Patterned Plywood videos by Michael Alm but you're doing some similar stuff here with the red hexes.
    Third, I've been toying with doing some custom board game stuff and you've given me a better idea how to do player boards that pack up well.

      Custom board game stuff?
      I am intrigued...
      like normal boardgames you make custom for ease of transport sans cardboard box, or making your own custom board game as well?

      I also just looked him up, and I dont know why I didn't think of the "weave" hex pattern he had... makes so much mor sense than what I did. Thanks for showing me to him, he looks to have some interesting stuff!

      @@thewannabecraftsman I'm thinking in terms of a fully bespoke upgrade of something like Hansa Teutonica, Village, or Stone Age.
      I'd love to go all out and make something totally new in terms of rules and the rest, but I don't have the time with my group for all the prototyping, play testing, and design adjustment... we're lucky we can manage four hours or so a week to just sit together and play.

    Dude! This is awesome! I already wanted to copy your commander sleeve idea, and now i want to do this too!
    Love the border around the purpleheart for the zones, and the padauk combat zone looks great. How is it picking cards up off it?

    • @thewannabecraftsman
      @thewannabecraftsman  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I actually filmed me "scooping" my boardstate
      It didn't fit into the video, but I spent a LOT of time sanding, grain raising, more sanding, etc. to make sure when its open its as seamless as possible.
      I would say realistically 98.5% of the time, no cards catch a seam. And the other 1+% you can feel a card catch or snag for a quick second.
      but still easily scoopable

    Oh man, it's not the armless/legless punchline is it?
    "Whatever you want, he can't get to you"
    Or maybe "Neil Degrasse Armstrong"?
    "Space Jordan"?

      hehehe that's the actual punchline, because people guess all sorts of things, the punchline is you call them racist because he's an astronaut :D
      I do like your first one though, "Whatever you want, he cant get you"
