Good morning Jen. Bless your heart and how you give us these wonderful recipes and through Ball so we know they are SAFE! There is way too much stuff out there that is unsafe and for those who are new and don’t know better there is not nearly enough information on safe canning procedures.
A tip I learned....when cleaning off the garlic press use the backside of the knife blade, keeps your knife blade from getting dull so quick. The one kitchen task I hate doing is knife sharpening. Peace
Thanks, Jeni. Will give this recipe a try. Canning Navy beans and ham this week. I like to can when it is raining, that way I don't want to go outside. God Bless, stay safe.
I have canned beef stew with potatoes in it. It looks OK, but have not tried it yet. If they are mushy, I'll leave them out next time. I could thicken it for a pot pie. Thanks for the inspiration! I may have to make some Chicken Pot Pie filling, too. I have chicken thighs and legs that I plan to can (bone-in).
Jeni you forgot the peas..lol.. I also leave out the potatoes because they take up too much room. I do add them in. A bay leaf is a must..looks good. Thanks
You make it look so easy! And how you can decipher the 2qt/4pint recipes, scale them up, so you have a canner load and enough broth for the jars Saving out the potatoes for later is also a great tip, thanks again
This is about the same as what my family calls "soup base". Can be made with any meat, and variations can use tomatoe juice for liquid. When putting the recipe together sometimes add noodles instead of potatoes. We also can a vegetarian base with water as liquid. So much you can do with canning ... so much fun! Thanks for sharing your time with us.
I just made the pot roast in a jar, recently! I left potatoes out because I didn't have any, but also because I love adding the herbed potatoes in the same Ball book to my pot pies. Usually I use Bisquick for the top because it reminds me of how my mom used to cook, but homemade pie crust or store bought is yummy, too.
Very nice, and looks delicious! I can't wait to can again once my temp sensor on my stove is replaced. Ugh! It was dreadful baking flat cookies, or my temp gage on my canner was going up, down, up down. THANX again Jeni!
Just a question here, you seem to have room for more veggies, can one safely put more in. About acid reflux….I used to refer myself as the « acid reflux queen » BUT……since I have been making most of our meals in the instant pot, I find the my AR has gone away. Seems like sugar is the worse culprit but again hard to tell as there are some sugars that do nothing so long as I don’t indulge for dinner time. A little baking soda and ACV in a small glass of water and heartburn GONE.
The rule of thumb for soup abs stew is half solids, half broth. My medical situation with GERD is much more serious than that. I actually need surgery and I’m buying time with very strong prescriptions. Also… that is NOT my only issue, sadly. And, I am a nurse and have been for 28 years. I tried it all before it got to where it is now. 😊
I think I will try this with dehydrated veggies (I have a lot) and dehydrated beef bone broth powder (sorry, Better Than Bullion tastes like a salt lick to me). Like the tip about using onion powder and garlic powder as well as the actual veggies. And will probably make more in the fall with fresh veg.
This looks so good. It reminds me of when my youngest was a student at University and I would can pint jars of beef stew so he could have it for supper on Sunday nights. The University did not serve Sunday night suppers. He had others come around and try to convince him that he should share but that was one thing he would NOT share. I did not put potatoes in my jars either but used a tablespoon of barley. He was fond of that.
And this beautiful, generous woman has time for a manicure…..too much! Love it!
I can barely find time for it! 😂

Looks good. Definitely going to try this pot pie filling. Have you ever used roasted garlic in a canning recipe?
I haven’t canned with roasted garlic. I usually just roast it for bread. 😊

My son always added beer to the stew he makes

Yw! 😊
I’ve made this following the recipe before. I think your way is more delicious so I think I’ll copy your way. But I will use wine.
You make it look so easy! And how you can decipher the 2qt/4pint recipes, scale them up, so you have a canner load and enough broth for the jars
Saving out the potatoes for later is also a great tip, thanks again
Yw! 😊
Good evening yummy. by the way michaels art crafts here are carrying balls jars

Nothing like a good hot pot pie on a cool/cold evening. Being able to have one home made is even better. TFS
Yw! 😊
What kind of canner are you using? What size?
All American 921. 21.5 qts. 😊
I want to try the raw pack method on this I have never done it in a like stew mix before.
New sub here. Loving the Ugly Chicken Cook Off and the videos on your channel!
Thank you so much and welcome!!! 😀

I'm loving it! Quick meals!
I thought bay leaf gets strong also?
Nope. I put bay in all beef items. 😊
Thank you! Love beef pot pie!
I’ve never tried canning stew. I will now!
Great addition to my pantry! Going to try this soon
Yum!

Jen I , this looks delicious . I will definitely be canning this.

Yw! 😊 Hope you get it fixed soon!

That looks DELICIOUS.... I just Love your laugh Jeni. Everyone stay safe and God Bless you and your family from middle GA 🙏 Kendra
Thank you so much! 😊
Looks nummy. :)
It looks good. Thinking about trying it. I can beef stew every year
Got meat in the freezer now that I need to can. Think I'll use this receipe.
This looks like a great addition to the pantry…🤓♥️👍🙏
They look beautiful. I am writing down recipes that I want to make.
Thanks! 😊
Couldn't you just let the broth cool and do it as cold raw pack?
You can absolutely do that. I tend to get more siphoning that way, so I do it hot, but you certainly can. 😊
This is motivation for me to try this recipe... I’m still scared to just can because lids are so hard to find in my area.
