Beings that are pretty much immortal in some way shape or form and live centuries to millennia and cannot be challenged by mere men. The people that can destroy nations at a whim. It implies that Beatrix has met other beings on that level and is giving Iris advice to accept that shadow is not someone you should compare yourself with as he has broken the limits of what a mortal can achieve and to just accept that there are some beings too powerful to appose.

I see it different. Alexis does her Training coz she know nothing she can do will make a different now. Iris is the strongest knight in the Kingdom. And she can't protect her people now. She's crying coz she's realises situation was hopeless. It has nothing to do with Pride. In fact she discarded her Pride to fight shadow with arti fact. And was ready to throw away her life to brat him. That's not Behavior of some selfish brat that don't know how to lose.

I tend to fall in the line of it being a paradigm shift for them both: Alexia was ridiculed for being an ordinary swordswoman, practicing the basics to textbook perfection, but she was held back in her swordsmanship. After seeing Shadow use an identical style to her to great effect, she realized that her technique was fine, she was just missing a hidden something to unlock the potential. This is actually partially a real thing in modern martial arts, where many mid-level students become overly rigid on following the forms and can have a hard time progressing. Iris on the other hand was untouchable from an early age. Her entire worldview was based on being the most capable fighter at LEAST in Midgar, and being a princess on top of that she held a high opinion of herself, AND had an immense amount of expectation placed on her to maintain that appearance of "Midgar's strongest Dark Knight." Her paradigm shift, unfortunately, was having her entire world view shattered, completely out of her control, and regardless of how much effort she put into it, even when resorting to augmenting her strength with an artifact. The fundamental difference between the two is that Alexia's paradigm shift was for the positive: she was shown an example of a being far beyond mortal means fighting EXACTLY how she does - profound mastery of the fundamentals of swordsmanship - and she saw her way forward. Iris' shift on the other hand was a fundamental destruction of almost every assumption of her worldview she had held up to that point. Entire chunks of her self-image were shattered in front of her eyes, and done so in an extremely mocking, condescending way, and with insulting ease.
The sound design in this episode was absolute peak, Shadow disappearing in a single frame along with the sound of the rain gave me shivers when I was watching this episode for the first time.
There is a reason why Shadow noted that the artifact sword was made of mithril. Most materials have some magical conductivity. Most materials don't go past 10%. Mithril is sought after because it can get up to 50% conductivity. There is one material better. Slime jelly conductivity is a whopping 99%! Kinda makes sense since they move magic through their cores to keep themselves together. The problem is that it's considered exceedingly difficult to control slime jelly. Cid saw the memo and disagreed with the conclusions. The battle in the anime is a HUGE upscale from the light novel. Back then it was only contained in the arena. The crowbars didn't even make an appearance! It is pretty agreed upon that young Cid/Minoru was mouthing "yamero" before he released Hidden Technique: I AM ATOMIC (Yes, that's what he called it in his first use of it in the light novel) into the sky When Rose arrived in Alexandria, she recognized coffee and cacao plants and immediately figured out that Mitsugoshi and Shadow Garden are basically one and the same. Also Mordred, Perv's boss? He's Takehito Koyasu, the voice of Dio!
Yeah, I'd seen a comment about lil' Cid representing that tiny slight bit of restraint in that moment. Kinda poetic, seeing as how Shadow could erase a nation on a whim.

as far as i know, cid did actually set off the nuke, but like upwards into the sky. like cid said "sky rending attack", which is why it turned into daytime because the nuke blew away all the clouds
I wouldn't say Iris sees herself as a main character, that is being too harsh on her; rather she is justifiably confident in her own prowess as well as under great pressure as of late(whose fault could that be). She is a great contrast to Alexia, a prodigy vs hard worker(not that Iris doesn't work hard); their reactions to Shadow's display of power show this well: Iris was broken, loosing all will to resist in the face of overwhelming power, while Alexia was unfazed, determined to walk the path she has chosen. Iris is a person with strong shell, but fragile core that took a beating during this season. Alexia has been struggling her whole life and at her core is strong because of it, allowing her to pick herself back up no matter how many times she gets knocked down. Also, personal opinion but Alexia is the best match for Shadow/Cid, being the only one who, aware or not, is kinda on the same wavelength as his true self.

There are so many shows or movies where the "world" hangs in the balance BUT we all know its not gonna happen. Here we were actually on the edge of our seat "is he gonna do it?" becouse he's clearly insane enough to do it, so its just a question of what he conciders more epic.

Aroua the Witch of Calamity/Diablo one attack is a Vampire attack using blood(as Aroua the base of Vampire and Possession , Cid copied it and using a water version even if less effective. Also when he 'nuked ' he only showing off but it still had enough power to remove all the rain clouds from the area. Also you see Rose/666 in eps one from behind when they look at the extra show garden members the first time they show Cid in the New world.
NOT a spoiler. Just using anime moments. - Because of Rose suddenly showing signs of possession, any girl in the show could have possessed blood if the writer deemed it. - So Alexia joining Shadow Garden could also be possible if the writer wanted it. She was kidnapped for her blood, which also happened to Claire, and it enhanced/effected a possessed girl in episode 4. But could just as easily be a different power with this show. - All the girls we know of in Shadow Garden have possessed blood/demon possession and their flashbacks show the symptoms can appear at various ages.
Even the serious moments in this show are taking a piss at everything like at the end where 666 gets her prized item destroyed in front of her and its a stupid burger wrapper. The fact that moment was the culmination of one of the longest arcs yet is just the kind of humor that makes this show special.

That comment you guys saw about Iris thinking she's the main character is some of the worst character assassination and misrepresentation I've seen in this series. I've seen a few others in this comment section explain it well so I'll leave it to them but just know that is very much not the case or point of her character; if anything she's experiencing a character arc that directly contrast Alexia's.
Iris: Drops the sword and loses the will to fight in the face of absolute annihilation. Alexia: Continues to keep swinging the sword with full determination to die when faced with absolute annihilation and even says that if she dies and reincarnates, she will choose the same path of the sword. A very similar egoistical thought process, yet radically different in subtlety. I think it should be undeniably obvious why Cid likes Alexia.
Season 2 is just as unhinged as season 1, looking forward to it! Also you should know that there is a mobile game that expanded the story far more than the show and manga did. Also(semi spoiler alert) That last line "the time of awakening is near, there is little time remaining" is a funny foreshadow of the first arc of season 2. Youll see why soon.😂😂

Really awesome set of reactions. It's not every video I insist on watching as soon as I can and without doing anything else, but these were quite worth that. Here's hoping you'll react to season 2 as well!
Great reaction. I certainly hope to see a season 2 reaction. Unfortunately, season 2 will be that last Eminence anime I will be watching. There is one seriously massive change the anime did that disappointed me beyond words, but at least seasons 1 and 2 are pure gold for reaction channels.
Iris doesn't want to be the main character. But all her life she is the prodigy when it come to sword skill and everyone always relied on her strength. She sees it as her only talent because she is very bad at politic, so Iris think that her strength is the only asset she has that can contribute to Midgar country. She is constantly thinking that she has to be the strongest and give the citizen reassurance that as long as she is around, they are safe. In another word, Iris is putting pressure on herself to be the best knight, and if she can't fulfilled that role then she is useless and can't protect her citizen - thus fail her purpose in life.
They made poor Iris unlikeable in the anime. In the LN the entire battle took place in the stadium with Shadow allowing Rose to escape through a hole in the wall he had made and stopping anybody else from going after her. The battle then went somewhat the same, with Cid using a sword the same length as Beatrix's' and having clashed blades decides to show his "true power" and return his sword to his correct length. Then he does the whole disappearing act, he's not moving impossibly fast but using natural movements with no swagger, killing intent, etc. She also describes it as raindrops, same as the anime but unlike the anime she barely blocks his attacks and knows she won't be able to block a third. Iris then shows up, without an artifact, saying she knows she's not strong enough but she has to try. The they do that combo, Shadow slams his knee on Iris's face (because hand-to-hand is actually his specialty), slams Beatrix on the ground then throws her against the wall. He goes to leave, they get up and say they can still fight, Iris says he shouldn't flee, He says why would he flee as he fills the stadium with magic. Iris asks him why he didn't kill them outright if he had that much power and he says that he had achieved his objective and is not interested in their lives and they only butcher their enemies. Then before unleashing the magic towards the sky he tells her to remember who her enemy is. Iris is left in a cloudless sky wondering what was Shadow's objective and who her true enemy is. So she didn't come off as arrogant and seemed to actually question what was truly going on, unlike the anime where it seemed she was throwing a tantrum. Also this was done in the stadium before a live studio audience. I don't know which was more disrespectful between the anime and Ln but I'm slightly leaning on the LN. P.S. Rose ran through a forest until she got tired and that's where she met Alpha and joined Shadow Garden.

Even the serious moments in this show are taking a piss at everything like at the end where 666 gets her prized item destroyed in front of her and its a stupid burger wrapper. The fact that moment was the culmination of one of the longest arcs yet is just the kind of humor that makes this show special.
Its so crazy to see how much the girls care about what going on and Cid does not give a shit about anything.

That comment you guys saw about Iris thinking she's the main character is some of the worst character assassination and misrepresentation I've seen in this series. I've seen a few others in this comment section explain it well so I'll leave it to them but just know that is very much not the case or point of her character; if anything she's experiencing a character arc that directly contrast Alexia's.
Iris: Drops the sword and loses the will to fight in the face of absolute annihilation.
Alexia: Continues to keep swinging the sword with full determination to die when faced with absolute annihilation and even says that if she dies and reincarnates, she will choose the same path of the sword.
A very similar egoistical thought process, yet radically different in subtlety.
I think it should be undeniably obvious why Cid likes Alexia.

Great reaction. I certainly hope to see a season 2 reaction. Unfortunately, season 2 will be that last Eminence anime I will be watching. There is one seriously massive change the anime did that disappointed me beyond words, but at least seasons 1 and 2 are pure gold for reaction channels.

Iris doesn't want to be the main character. But all her life she is the prodigy when it come to sword skill and everyone always relied on her strength. She sees it as her only talent because she is very bad at politic, so Iris think that her strength is the only asset she has that can contribute to Midgar country. She is constantly thinking that she has to be the strongest and give the citizen reassurance that as long as she is around, they are safe. In another word, Iris is putting pressure on herself to be the best knight, and if she can't fulfilled that role then she is useless and can't protect her citizen - thus fail her purpose in life.

Loved the Series, hope you guys watch season 2
They made poor Iris unlikeable in the anime.
In the LN the entire battle took place in the stadium with Shadow allowing Rose to escape through a hole in the wall he had made and stopping anybody else from going after her.
The battle then went somewhat the same, with Cid using a sword the same length as Beatrix's' and having clashed blades decides to show his "true power" and return his sword to his correct length. Then he does the whole disappearing act, he's not moving impossibly fast but using natural movements with no swagger, killing intent, etc. She also describes it as raindrops, same as the anime but unlike the anime she barely blocks his attacks and knows she won't be able to block a third. Iris then shows up, without an artifact, saying she knows she's not strong enough but she has to try. The they do that combo, Shadow slams his knee on Iris's face (because hand-to-hand is actually his specialty), slams Beatrix on the ground then throws her against the wall. He goes to leave, they get up and say they can still fight, Iris says he shouldn't flee, He says why would he flee as he fills the stadium with magic. Iris asks him why he didn't kill them outright if he had that much power and he says that he had achieved his objective and is not interested in their lives and they only butcher their enemies. Then before unleashing the magic towards the sky he tells her to remember who her enemy is. Iris is left in a cloudless sky wondering what was Shadow's objective and who her true enemy is.
So she didn't come off as arrogant and seemed to actually question what was truly going on, unlike the anime where it seemed she was throwing a tantrum. Also this was done in the stadium before a live studio audience. I don't know which was more disrespectful between the anime and Ln but I'm slightly leaning on the LN.
P.S. Rose ran through a forest until she got tired and that's where she met Alpha and joined Shadow Garden.
Ohhh interesting! Seems like she's a bit different in the LN! I don't really find her unlikable even in this anime version though! I'm pretty interested to see where she goes from here after hitting her lowest point

I have a feeling she might get back on the "right track" by Cid saying/doing something dumb and being misinterpreted lol.
I think it was just this fight that made me dislike Iris in the anime, though seeing her cry in frustration decreased my dislike a lot.

The author for the series has stated multiple times that hes awful with naming things so every name other than the characters he actually enjoys writing (yes that includes locations and stores as well) is either some form of pun or straight up stolen from some other series
