Here I thought Fire Emblem: Three Houses was going to be my favorite game ever, until Monolithsoft released its absolute Chad game of Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition.
I'm in love with Xenoblade Chronicles, but in my case I'll still stuck with FE: 3H as my favorite game ever. Preferences are subjecive, but everyone agree on XC being a masterpiece.

Yeah if we're talking purely on a storytelling and emotional level I think Xenoblade blows fire emblem outta the water in that sense

That thing about the game telling you when quests are time-sensitive was a GREAT addition. Yes, it kind of acts as a spoiler. But alternatively, you could look at it as foreshadowing. At 14:47 you can see that (almost) all the quests from a place called "Alcamoth" are time-sensitive and will eventually expire. I looked at that and a chill ran down my spine as I realized "Oh, this place is DOOMED." Given that Shulk has a magic weapon that gives him visions of the future, it was an interesting touch rather than an immersion-break. Speaking of which, having him USE those visions of the future to supplement side-quests was great. If you're running around exploring and find a weird special key item lying around, rather than have Shulk say "Let's leave it here" or have it not even be there, he may get a future vision of someone asking for it, and go "Oh, guess I'll hold onto this for later and I should probably talk to that person when I see them." That's AWESOME game design!

Here's another point for the game though, regarding the time-sensitive quests: for me, I had the same reaction seeing all of the timed quests in the Refugee Camp, but then you eventually find that they were all timed simply because you have the option to eventually move everybody from the refugee camp to Colony 6. Similar stuff happens with conditional quests where you can choose to either help one person or the other; nothing bad was going to happen. Introducing these before Alcamoth set in my mind, "I can't really make any inferences like that from time quests", so when I come to Alcamoth I didn't give it too much thought. If you think about it, that's a really smart decision by the devs.

And that truly makes you a rarity and shows how much good taste you have in storys and how much you pay attention much respect to you not many people who are fans of something actually have the brain capacity to do that
Usually people first game of a certain series really blinds there judgement of any criticism because it goes with how much they hold it dear to them
For me I started since the beginning when Square soft was still a thing Xenogears back then was my first then Xenosaga and in the blade franchise Xenoblade 1 was my first then I went into two and right then and into 4 chapters later I was saying DUDE WTF IS THIS SHIIIII LMFAO 🤣

I just finished Xenoblade 2 yesterday and while I like it more then you did (I’ve seen your videos about XC2), I still had a ton of issues with it and didn’t really want to get XC1, but this video has convinced me! It sounds like a lot of my issues with 2 are not nearly as prevalent in the original. Thanks!
It took me 3 tries to feel this same way about the game, I was too hung up on the combat and the confusing mechanics like gem crafting and said it wasn’t for me, but after 3 years and playing other games, I picked it back up and now I can’t put it down 😭

I played xenogears chronicles 1 and is easily on my top 5 best games of all history, I put it right up there with ff6, chronotrigger and finan faltasy tactics; the problem is, I knew 2 was on switch too, so I kinda rushed on completing the game, didn't explore all the optional things nor completed most sidequests; then I jumped to xenogears chronicles 2 straight up expecting more of the same; more wonderful characters, more great battles, good battle mechanics, tons of customization for my characters -etc. But man oh man, what a disappointment it was
This video made me give this game another chance. When it came out I was put off by the thick British accents but, it's a helluva lot better than 2.

This game is an absolute beast, and I have ZERO IDEA how they managed to port it completely to the (new) 3DS while keeping the same gameplay and stable 30 fps. Yeah, the textures and models got compromised but the lower resolution of the handheld omits many of the cut corners.
Of COURSE you're the guy who made the video about the simple plot of Xenoblade 2, I should've known from how great this video is. Honestly might show it to friends to introduce them to the best points of Xenoblade 1

I would argue against the grinding statement. Just beat the game for the first time. And I fought pretty much every enemy that aggroed me, and even cleared a lot of areas of all enemies I could. And for multiple bosses I was still under leveled. You pretty much have to do quests to keep up level wise.
Yeah in 1 you could get an lot xp from an lot of Quests, 2 was more of an Grindfest xD

Am I the only one that thinks that xenoblade 1's combat almost feels like an expanded version of chronotrigger combat. I know it's a stretch but I am referring to how enemy position matters a ton, some actions require multiple party members like stream edge and wild down=topple or how each attack has range and width.

Dagnabit, I made a big ol' comment about how XCX isn't *completely* different from XC1, and how many of the systems are straight up carried over if not outright expanded upon, but TH-cam ate it so now I'm sad. Still looking forward to your review of the only reason to own a Wii U any more.

XCX feels like a true expansion of xc1's ideas. It also feels like a response to xenoblade 1's criticism's about the game being too slow. So in contrast x is super fast paced in that you could sprint really fast and could leap insanely high and landing without taking damage.

After playing Xenoblade Chronicles for the first time via DE, Having taken 100 hours to beat, I can really feel (no pun intended) why this game is a masterpiece. Both fun and additicing gameplay and a story that evoles and changes the motivation over time really did keep me playing for so long.
If I had some nitpicks, I really hate how the track 'Visions of the future' overrides other battle tracks in particular 'You will know our names' and 'An obstacle in our path'. I wouldn't be as salty if this track didn't sound so forgettable as well as interrupting the tone or atomsphere of some battles. Also speaking of visions, that's another nitpick I have, not for story reasons but gameplay, mainly because sometimes these visions can drag out for too long in a battle and even when my team is completely incapaticated anyways so it feels like a waste of time. On top that, these visions can come very early in a battle which again goes back to the first nitpick.

@@VGF80 Ok. So, the BGM changes whenever you break a vision bar, right? So, you just dont ever break any vision bars...but how do you ask? if i dont my guy dies? Simple: Partymembers are immune to dieing during a chain attack. Meaning, if you go into a chain attack after the vision bar expires, the attack of the monster will hit, but your partymembers wont die. They will still take a lot of damage, but since chain attacks heal it doesnt matter much.
That way you can preserve the BGM

I don't understand how you don't like the first fight theme. What do you mean it's just instruments making noises? I played through the remake and I listen to it just now. It's never bothered me I like hearing it every time. And I played with the original music on.
I played every xenoblade (even the 3ds port) and some were better than others, but I can say for sure I don't regret a second of it

I'm suuuper late to this since I've only just got around to playing XC2 and XC DE so I put off watching these videos. Yasunori Mitsuda only composed the ending theme for XC1 but did do a lot of the main themes and story cutscenes for XC2. Manami Kiyota was the main composer for XC1 and absolutely killed it, deserves recognition.
Also on "win in game lose in cutscene" XC1 absolutely did this a few times but nowhere near as egregious as XC2. The penultimate boss fight comes to mind where I melted his stupid face to half his health bar and then suddenly my whole team is collapsed on the ground. Total bullshit.

I have the trilogie, 1 is still good Storywise, but the "Regular Graphic" is outdated. Part 3 is the best for me ^^.
I got some beef with the party it feels like you always have to use sharla and reyn and shulk or dunban for your attacker im just upset sharla is the only healer XC2 didn't have this problem because you can give anyone a healing blade

Honestly, I am having a lot of trouble getting into XC2. While I absolutely love the anime art style, I am not a big fan of cliche anime tropes, which XC2 has a ton of. Also, I had trouble taking the game seriously with the female character designs and the general tone of the game. I am considering still finishing the game for the sake of it, but so far it just has not been my cup of tea at all. XB1 absolutely nailed it for me in the characters, story, and tone of the game, in which both of the games are very different overall. So while I do like the art style of XB2, the personality of the game is likely just not for me. However, if they ever release X on the Switch, I will definitely try it out.

I never really had a problem with character designs in XC2, especially since the main cast is really likable.
It does have a different tone, and the combat is a lot different. But I still wouldn't say it's bad.
@@keeysOST It has tropes, as all games do, but I would not say most of them were frequent or typical tropes per se. The tropes that were used were more on the serious side of tropes, which added to the tone of the game a lot more. As for the character designs in two, I dislike it when games heavily sexualize the female characters, especially when it is almost every single one. I am not a huge fan of sexualized characters in general, but to be fair, that hardly ever actually happens to male characters. Unfortunately, I am just not finding myself enjoying the game.

I played this game a while ago. And your right this is way better than xenoblade 2. If we get a xenoblade 3 i hope the leave behind the anime designs female sexualization complicated gameplay and story.

I never really realised how stupid some of XC2's flaws are until I played XC1. While the poor guides made it frustrating on my first attempts I let it slide when revisiting later as I got used to it but after playing DE I just wonder- Why were they that bad? Why didn't the game acknowledge timed quests? Why winning in game often resulted in losing in the story? I will say that as far as individual party members in both games go my least favorite was the legendary Heropon and my favorite was the pervert Masterpon.

@@Xenowolf8 I like Riki as an individual character but when looking past his role as a comic relief and heart warming moments with Melia everything that he does in the story (which isn't much to begin with) could be rewritten pretty easily to not include him.
Nimrod Dafny, the thing with Riki is that his character isn’t shown in the main story, rather it’s told in the heart to hearts, which makes him stand out as a character as he is the only one who is like this.

This feels like why xenoblade 1 was good but also like why xenoblade 1 is better than 2
(Spoilers for anyone who haven't finished the game. Don't read unless you completed the game. You have been warned.)
I just finished it on the wii. I loved the story but the gameplay is broken. The hitboxes were terrible. Many of the enemies could hit you from the other side of the room regardless if they hit you or not. Many of the boss fights are too hard. Gadolt kept spawning more mechons and he kept spamming his shoulder cannons attacks. Egil in his giant mecha kept spawning more mechons too and it just makes it more difficult. Lorithia Had those glowing balls and the area had 4 ether pools. Even worst, the characters will stay in the pools until they die. Zanza in his second form was just way too overpowered. Another issue with this game is that there is so much grinding. The last few bosses in the game requires so much grinding. And the dungeons in this game are way too long. The mechonis interior dungeons was way too long and it felt like I wasn't getting anywhere. Even worst, there are super bosses next to your objective (those computer panal things) and you can't continue the story until you beat the super boss.
My characters were level 84 when I finished the game and it took me 65 hours.
Story: 9/10
There may have been some faults in the story but I was still interested in it and the characters. The story was the main reason I decided to tolerate the gameplay.
Gameplay: 0/10
Boss fights were too hard, faulty hitboxes, dungeons were too long, honestly just let me fucking win already. They gameplay is just as broken as xenosaga 2 and final fantasy xiii. This game would be better if it had a skip battle options and lets you win automatically.
I haven't played the definitive edition and I'm happy that people who missed out can play it. But I hope it fixes the issues.
I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not. Why would there be hit boxes in an automated mmo style combat system? Why not just watch an anime? 0/10 seems like overkill for the gameplay.
