How closeted is Jimmy. "It's unlikely he got addicted to drugs at 15 years old." A lot of my friends got addicted to coke, meth or ecstasy at 14 years old. In a little town in Kansas. That's a ridiculous statement Jimmy made. I started using hard drugs, too, when I was 14. I wasn't ever really an addict. It was just the environment I was in. I stopped using all hard drugs on July 13, 2010.
I started using hard drugs at 14 as well and I’m from small town in North Carolina. The problem is in ALOT of parts of America the opioid epidemic and meth addiction has ravaged these communities (especially mine in Appalachia). Jimmy is from middle class England, so in his world the average kid doesn’t get hooked on drugs at 14-15(wish it was like that everywhere). The truth is it’s not normal, but our country, especially our communities are suffering.
2:55 I just want to step in and say that.... NO, that does not sound like a lie, to anyone who is/was an addict. addiction does not pick out certain age groups to effect. i was an addict at the age of 14-15. weed, alcohol, adderall... got sent to my first inpatient rehab shortly after that, and it definitely didn't stop there. it only escalated into "harder" drugs. i was an IV heroin/meth/coke slammer/user for over 10 years. im 33 now. I've spent *_literally_* over 3 years of my life in rehab facilities, or halfway houses/sober living houses. been to extensive inpatient rehabs 4 times, and been to over 20 clinical detoxes. age means nothing in terms of addiction. it never discriminates. i 100% believe his addiction story. i have seen pretty much every interview, podcast, text post, and video, pertaining to his drug use, and as someone who is very experienced on the subject, i would say he's not lying.
16:00 That's kinda wild about the music cause I saw him and thought "What a clown wtf?" and then I hear the music and I'm like "wow, that's pretty good"
For me it was the opposite, I'm a big fan of twenty one pilots and I stumbled on "alien boy" and really liked the lyrics. But when I saw the music video I was like wtf is this
The line between a grifting liar and a character act is so thin. One of the major differences, I think is in how committed one is to the bit. And if Oliver is one thing it's that.
I've seen 12 yo kids getting their life ruined on hard drugs, they get younger and younger every day. Its just hard to believe until you witness it with your own eyes
START doing drugs at 15? Yes. Drug addicted at 15 in a two parent well to do household? Different matter entirely. Source; I’m a recovering drug addict. Started smoking weed at 14-15. Didn’t end up addicted to opiates until my 20’s.
@@Brodc why does that drive you insane? Because some kids aren’t born into slums? I wish no child was born into anything less than middle class life, I really wish the world would do more to eliminate childhood poverty and hunger and the dangers associated with childhood in low-income neighborhoods. Also, Oliver Tree’s parents were WAY above middle class, they’re a fairly wealthy family. The statistics on teen drug use are fairly telling; the overwhelming majority of teen drug users come from single parents households in the lower 30% of income. There are obviously outliers to these statistics, but I watched the Oliver Tree interviews where he was less “shticky” and the stories about his drug addiction don’t really add up. I’ve known addicts that got hooked young and I have a lot of doubts that Oliver is being totally sincere about his drug experiences. It’s a really shitty thing to fake, which is why i don’t want to accuse him of outright faking that aspect of his character, but he is playing a character with certain aspects of his real life incorporated into that character. I’m sure he did have some drug experiences fairly young, but I really don’t believe the story as he tells it is the truth.
Well, he said he was on drugs at 15, did NOT say that is when he was kicked out. Also, I was 15, addicted to drugs and got kicked out at 17.. So, not that odd if he was addicted at such a young age.
Sadly, 15 is not all that young to be fully addicted. Hard drugs, maybe that’s a bit more rare. But go to any shelter, homeless encampment, jail, rehab or anonymous meeting (AA, NA, etc) and the majority of addicts and alcoholics you talk to will tell you they were addicted to something by age 14 or 15. Do I think Oliver Tree is/was an addict? Ehhh
@@stoneyrules not sure how lieing about doing sth like being in a circus or a pro scooterest both of which are not extremely relevant in modern society is satire🤣. He talks bollocks about himself or characters he portrays.
“Oi bruv. yous be meanin to tell me roight mate, thit dem doinos fromm Jerawwseek Pahk ain’t even been real doinos innit?”. Brilliant detective work, bro.
Everything else aside, I disagree with your assertion that "15 seems a bit early to be getting addicted to drugs and kicked out of your parent's house" Most people who get addicted to drugs and alcohol get addicted before age 15. And getting kicked out of your parents' house often follows close behind. Mr Tree could still very well be bullshitting, though. I am not discounting that idea.
Theory: He goes into "normal interview mode" when he's not comfortable doing his whole character with whoever is interviewing him. First is Stev-O, a legendary dude and many have huge respect for him. I can't imagine he'd be comfortable acting that way in front if Stev-O. Second is the therapist. It's just a 1 on 1 and the therapist dude is really serious, it would be extremely awkward if he did his character as we all know how weird it would be to act that way with that type of guy.
Honestly, you didn't really need to do a deep dive. He intentionally shares insane stories. It's a part of the bit, or the character. Never take anything he says seriously, is the final end note of all this. Maybe one day he'll be genuine and open, but that's not what he does right now. Still enjoyed the video, but yeah, most of what he says is entirely fictional, or extremely, heavily overexaggerated.
A good rule of thumb is "if its oliver tree its probably all part of the bit" even when hes not playing a character he will almost always sprinkle in some misdirection
12:31 OR (this is gonna sound crazy) they just edited the clips out of chronological order. the skit was filmed before he hit the jump and changed his shoes. what a crazy theory!
I kinda always thought that oliver tree was more a character, like Gnene Wilder's portrayal of Willy Wonka, you knever truly know what's fact or fiction.
most people that i grew up with started using when we were 12 - then we graduated to entrepreneurship by the time we was in middle school. the experiences either became more psychedelic or experimental. our plugs always had a variety of choices for us, depending on who we were with or what we felt like doing. anyways, all this to say - 15 is normal where i am from. thankfully some of us grew out of it, but sadly a lot of people lost their minds due to drug use. and maybe i'm one of them. but its all an experience, right? just have to learn from it. i've learned that i like inebriation. thus - im aware that i have an addictive personality now that i am older - and realize that it is easy to be wrongly influenced, and even harder keeping to ourselves.
Back when Musigh was still posting a long time ago he posted a song called "This is Seperation" by Tree and Shelf Nunny. It was a very chill and unique song that I eventually forgot about till I heard this new pop song on the radio that had a seemingly identical singer. Yep it was the same guy, the original song came out in like 2012 I think.
Basin Cuts reminds me of being around 17 & visiting mates’ homes with parents whom still displayed old photos of their kids perhaps from a time before you knew them 🤣
The thing about Oliver tree is that he plays serious music while being a living meme himself, somehow it works, the music video is a microcosm of this dicotomy
It's actually kinda cool back when he first started he would actually respond to his Snapchat and my friends and I would have full conversations with him. My friend went super hardcore down the Tree rabbit hole back then and discovered all of this stuff just by cyber stalking him lol.
The biggest mystery to me is why does anyone care enough to do all this deep research and make a documentary about him when it's so painfully obvious that it's all a joke?

You aren't from the US so this might not be something that you know, but as someone who's in a lower income community here, I can personally say that 15 is not young for drug abuse. I'm young and most people in my community who are 10-15 are doing cr-ck and f-ntanyl.
I met the real Oliver once before he blew up. A friend of mine was on tour and Oliver was opening the show. I had seen him on a video with Tobasco Sweet once before, but didn't know much about him. Before the show, I was hanging with my buddy and everyone else, when this scruffy dude walked up to say hey to everyone. He was super kind, a little bit of a pothead vibe. I shook his hand, he said his name was Oliver. I didn't recognise him. We hung out for a few hours, talked music, gear, growing up and Influences. The usual stuff! his band was super cool as well! It wasn't until the show started that I Finally realised who it was! "I F*CKING KNOW THAT DUDE!" Afterwards, I went backstage and freaked out a little... "Bro, I had no idea who you were when you first showed up, but as soon as you put on the Windbreaker...lol" He laughed and thanked me. We chilled a little bit more backstage and went our separate ways! Nice and genuinely funny guy all around. I'm sure that's how he gets away with all his antics. lol
I don't get why someone would make up his own plagarism allegations. What benefit does it make to put such a dent in your reputation? I personally don't buy that version
Dude being an addict at 15 isn't unlikely at all. I started using at age 10- weed and alcohol- I was an addict having tried every drug except for heroin and crack by the time I was 14 years old. At 15 I had numerous friends that were homeless due to addiction and this was back in the 90s. I expect creators of this kind of content to do a little research on topics they're not knowledgeable of, that one line made you sound completely clueless and out of touch with the real world to me. And before anyone fires off on me, yep I ended up being a needle using heroin addict for 8 years but gratefully I've been clean&sober since 2010. No drugs No alcohol. Peace
Im not sure even he knows who he is, it seems like he always kinda wanted to be famous and tried many different avenues until he got over it by making a whole meme out of it and now hes in limbo
16:32 This is such a great thing to point out!.... I have for years seen clips and images but no audio I even tried to watch the Bad Friends pod but tunes out halfway From your description here I might actually try and watch one? What is the best music vid of his to watch 1st?
A Family Vacation to Burning Man- sounds like a pretty interesting Family dynamic they had going on there. One thing about the 2000s, a lot of us didn't think to record things- you're probably right that it's just a Persona he's built but I'm not sure I completely doubt it either. YT was not very big back then, the World was a very different place. I like that World better than what we have now- I'm just getting to be an old man though, becoming a classic stereotype. Get off my Lawn!
I love how he makes it blaringly obvious that it's a scooter stunt double in practically every shot and also how he tells out of this world, fantastical stories that anyone with a brain knows isn't true, so he's basically saying "fk you" to dumb people. I love him
Being the same age as Oliver, I can relate to drug addiction part and do believe him. The opiate pandemic was in full swing when I was in middle school, painkillers where everywhere, I feel like everyone had them. I started abusing them around 14/15 years old. Painkillers lead into every other drugs as well as the same people who sold the pain killers sold other drugs, and finally, my parents kicked me out of their house aswell. The early 2000s was a crazy time to grow up. Still feeling the echos of it myself. Still, I have friends relaspe and die because of it.
"15 is quite young to be doing drugs and get kicked out of your parents house"?? dude, in america kids are definitely disowned over hitting a single joint before hitting high school. that part of his story is extremely believable.
i don't see the point of this video at all, oliver was always just a character and nothing he said should be taken entirely seriously. but why did you say 15 is way too young to be addicted to drugs? literally any middle schooler or high schooler you talk to has probably tried at least a few substances.

I’m an American and don’t know what that means?
It’s just too hard to tell these days. Especially here in 🇺🇸
it's exactly the kind of thing the average ugly American celebrity would say without a hint of irony. Real Poe's Law territory, homie.
I just love that, him with a straight face saying he doesnt want to use his sex appeal to sell records......
Which Americans?
Glad he specified METRIC meters.... I was thinking IMPEERIAL meters at first..... 🤣🤣😂😂
the "Tree" music is super dope and highly underrated.
he dropped his character the most during the Steve-O interview, and it was really amazing. he still kept up the bit though of course. i hope he keeps it going literally until he dies of old age
Honestly it was the Anthony Padilla interview where I felt he dropped the act most
Recently Jimmys voice been sounding like hes been hitting the gear the night before 😂
I was ill haha
@@JimmyTheGiant "ill". Yeah, that's what I call the come down after a 3 day ❄️ binge.
As a Swede, I really appreciate his satire, but I understand Americans can get confused. I mean, me and my buddies acts likes this on a daily basis
Problem is he's punching down, the subculture he's mocking is super underground and you really had to know your 2010s to even get it. IMO his clout crossed the line satire cannot cross and bullying hidden in plain sight to an oblivious crowd like The Big Bang Theory.
I guess he became aware of that and become more Kid Rock-like
beacuse its fucking annoying
As a Swede, we have absolutely no claim to being on the level of Brits in satire/sarcasm. But sure we might do it better than the average American.
as an eastern european who is tolerant when it comes to satire. olive bush is the biggest annyoing pieces of shit ever
You guys have very low opinions of Americans. This is normalized here too. He came from America after all. It's not like Americans are drax the destroyer from gaurdians of the galaxy or spock. We understand satire and sarcasm.
Edit: just got to the part I understand now lol
I legit accidentally saw him live, he was a supporting act for Hobo Johnson and we had no idea who he was, been a fan since
Hobo Johnson is great so is Oliver tree!
Never heard of this guy before. Sounds like a real meme lord like Salvatore Ganacci or something like that.
Do you think by putting this much effort into "debunking" a troll means that you're trolled, or are you trolling us?
why did his "family" take him to "burning man" for a family vacation lol
The truth is it’s not normal, but our country, especially our communities are suffering.
its common for these commentary/essay youtubers to make absolute delusional dog shit points cause hey they need to make a video
Jimmy please do a video on the Scottish neds. Maybe the most interesting subculture in Britain that you’ve not done yet.
Ill look into, what makes them standout?
Not much from chavs to be honest.. speaking as a former ned 😂
@@JimmyTheGiant Did you ever see the video Neds Kru ft The Wee Man? It's a good introduction haha
Sounds like eshays in Australia only different
The proper get chibbed Scottish ned subculture was big in the 90's, that died out around the mid to late 2000's though.
I think the fact that you misspelled the word conclusion, right after mocking Americans was the funniest part of this video 😂 (24:00)
Skrillex looks like Corey Feldman if he born in the 90s
They have a pic together.
I only came across this guy yesterday and now Im seeing him everywhere I had not heard of him before that
you had luck
He’s pretty great, Oliver tree has been around for at least several years
the music he made as TREE is one of the best things I've ever heard in my life, wish he went for that, cause that shit is dope
But when I saw the music video I was like wtf is this
He stole most of his beats too
@@DeniaLol are you talking about how he re-created a fan remix as his own song? that's not illegal and not most beats lol
@@lucasboisneau4256 that's hilarious
The line between a grifting liar and a character act is so thin.
One of the major differences, I think is in how committed one is to the bit.
And if Oliver is one thing it's that.
I've seen 12 yo kids getting their life ruined on hard drugs, they get younger and younger every day. Its just hard to believe until you witness it with your own eyes
You think 15 is too young? My brother in Christ, 15 yo in Czechia are either adicted or in rehab
Dude you may have been raised in a somewhat sheltered household but it isn’t that unusual for people to start doing drugs at 15.
START doing drugs at 15? Yes. Drug addicted at 15 in a two parent well to do household? Different matter entirely.
Source; I’m a recovering drug addict. Started smoking weed at 14-15. Didn’t end up addicted to opiates until my 20’s.
I knew a kid who was addicted to meth when he was 14. Let’s not act like it’s not impossible.
You can tell this guy was born with middle-class parents. drives me insane
@@Thor-Orion Talking about the out of touch youtuber that made the video, sweetheart
Well, he said he was on drugs at 15, did NOT say that is when he was kicked out. Also, I was 15, addicted to drugs and got kicked out at 17.. So, not that odd if he was addicted at such a young age.
Bro is mad at a character who's whole stick is being a liar
(*schtick).
@@Dekoherence-ii8pw thanks bro
Sadly, 15 is not all that young to be fully addicted. Hard drugs, maybe that’s a bit more rare. But go to any shelter, homeless encampment, jail, rehab or anonymous meeting (AA, NA, etc) and the majority of addicts and alcoholics you talk to will tell you they were addicted to something by age 14 or 15.
Do I think Oliver Tree is/was an addict? Ehhh
Very polite of you to call them Myths rather than lies🤣
It's satire, goofs. Literally his whole thing
@@stoneyrules not sure how lieing about doing sth like being in a circus or a pro scooterest both of which are not extremely relevant in modern society is satire🤣. He talks bollocks about himself or characters he portrays.

Cor Blimey Mary Poppins!
Everything else aside, I disagree with your assertion that "15 seems a bit early to be getting addicted to drugs and kicked out of your parent's house"
Most people who get addicted to drugs and alcohol get addicted before age 15.
12:31 OR (this is gonna sound crazy) they just edited the clips out of chronological order. the skit was filmed before he hit the jump and changed his shoes. what a crazy theory!
loved your kendama vid lots of love from romania
I bought a Kendama and a Slackline because of his vids! Some great inspiration to be found!
23:51 reminds me of Too Short. Last few albums start off with, "back again with the last mf'in album."
24:06 love the typo. Almost like Oliver Tree wrote it.
Splitting branches by tree is my all time favourite album
I kinda always thought that oliver tree was more a character, like Gnene Wilder's portrayal of Willy Wonka, you knever truly know what's fact or fiction.
most people that i grew up with started using when we were 12 - then we graduated to entrepreneurship by the time we was in middle school. the experiences either became more psychedelic or experimental. our plugs always had a variety of choices for us, depending on who we were with or what we felt like doing. anyways, all this to say - 15 is normal where i am from. thankfully some of us grew out of it, but sadly a lot of people lost their minds due to drug use. and maybe i'm one of them. but its all an experience, right? just have to learn from it. i've learned that i like inebriation. thus - im aware that i have an addictive personality now that i am older - and realize that it is easy to be wrongly influenced, and even harder keeping to ourselves.
getter is probably one of the most overlooked guys in the music industry.
Basin Cuts reminds me of being around 17 & visiting mates’ homes with parents whom still displayed old photos of their kids perhaps from a time before you knew them 🤣
How could he be on family vacation with 17 when he was kicked out at 15?
You can still keep a relationship even if you can't live together
he was kicked out around 17 or 18 lmao he got it wrong
The thing about Oliver tree is that he plays serious music while being a living meme himself, somehow it works, the music video is a microcosm of this dicotomy
Tooth missing to reveal small square gap into square promo... genius
It's actually kinda cool back when he first started he would actually respond to his Snapchat and my friends and I would have full conversations with him. My friend went super hardcore down the Tree rabbit hole back then and discovered all of this stuff just by cyber stalking him lol.
The biggest mystery to me is why does anyone care enough to do all this deep research and make a documentary about him when it's so painfully obvious that it's all a joke?
about crash - i constantly forget exact year i broke my leg because it was post covid but pre war. and this helps me to narrow it to 2021 because i remember it was summer and war started next february - so i can't hold missing dates as a lie
there really hasn't been "family circus" that has "travelled" in the states since the 1800's . Bartum and Baily was the last but they are super big iconic, last "circus" standing ..

You aren't from the US so this might not be something that you know, but as someone who's in a lower income community here, I can personally say that 15 is not young for drug abuse. I'm young and most people in my community who are 10-15 are doing cr-ck and f-ntanyl.
Loved the dubstep deep dives
I'm sure that's how he gets away with all his antics. lol
I like how he talks about committing crimes but then his bowl cut is where he draws the line
He stole his name , haircut and fashion look from the Dutch film: New Kids: Turbo .!!!!

The British are a little slow on the come up.
I'm glad you got sober, man. Proud of you
I'll say, watching Tree become Oliver Tree via Getter was surreal in real-time.
Never heard of this dude. The story sounds familiar. Is that you George Santos?
Got to say, it isn't completely unheard of, for young teens to get addicted to drugs and leave home. It does happen from time to time in the States.
Can confirm the school thing, I went to CalArts with him, he was there for music production and it is where he formed the turbo character
Your assertion that 15 is too young to be addicted would be contradicted by my childhood. Must have been nice to have a stable home life as a child.
So in conclusion, you haven’t cleared anything up
@ 19:07 - The fact he says his dad was a Ring Leader and not a Ring Master - that's a dead giveaway for me right there the circus story is fake.
I'm pretty sure he's Rob Dyrdek's doppelganger that was conceived in a dream Rob had when he was filming Rob and Big.
Im not sure even he knows who he is, it seems like he always kinda wanted to be famous and tried many different avenues until he got over it by making a whole meme out of it and now hes in limbo
16:32 This is such a great thing to point out!.... I have for years seen clips and images but no audio
I even tried to watch the Bad Friends pod but tunes out halfway
From your description here I might actually try and watch one?
What is the best music vid of his to watch 1st?
We need more artists who take their performance to this level of awesome, imo.
oliver is really gonna get mad when he will find out you browsed his mother's facebook
0:33 *_never forget: oliver is ripped af_*
"15 is quite young to be doing drugs and get kicked out of your parents house"?? dude, in america kids are definitely disowned over hitting a single joint before hitting high school. that part of his story is extremely believable.
this is just every other dude from santa cruz
Performance artists always come off as so narcissistic its insane
i don't see the point of this video at all, oliver was always just a character and nothing he said should be taken entirely seriously. but why did you say 15 is way too young to be addicted to drugs? literally any middle schooler or high schooler you talk to has probably tried at least a few substances.
