Hi there This is a very good video. I like the way you get straight I it and explain everything in a concise ways. The only way it could be improved would be to link to everything you need in the description. Then I could buy everything and do the repair while watching. But well done on a very good video.
The failure of 14" (A2442) and 16" screens is too frequent and independent of good care of the equipment - it is not a failure caused by user carelessness: Apple should be required to provide a free replacement program worldwide.
Is this model impossible to repair if the DP855A chip is damaged? During repair, it accidentally caused an internal short circuit in the chip, which made the original DP855A chip unusable. The DP855A chip was available in China, but unless it is a DP855A chip extracted from the A2442 model, nothing is displayed on the screen. (Unfortunately, I couldn't find a way to extract the serial from the DP855A chip or reprogram the serial.)
This type of job is not for the beginner. If you have never worked on surface mount, let alone micro BGA, you need a few months practice before attempting this repair. You can change the LCD panel at home but find a shop that does microsoldering to change the chips for you!
Would you guys ever be interested in doing classes like rewa does in China. And I'm talking about in-person classes. This kind of knowledge just cannot be taught over video in my opinion at least for most people
HiQ Great video... One question. Which size of tape do you use in metal board and in the borders? Thank you very much! And one more question. Which is the size of stencil to reballing and temperatures to take off the ic and to put back? Thanks
@@Apple-maintenance-engineer Really? I am searching more informations, and I did not see anyone talking about or showing this type of replacement without to replace the chips. thanks
Hi, Derek I asked my repair guy that separating the panel from the back light and repairing and resoldering the ICs. He told me that doing this will lead to complete loss of water resistance and that even a little water may lead to damage. Is this true??? Please advise
MacBook's don't have water resistance at all. Apple doesn't test them for that let alone claim it. Any amount of water on a MacBook regardless if its been worked on or not is potentially dangerous.
That is what the whole video is about, didn't you watch it???? I'll give you a clue, if you aren't smart enough to actually watch and understand the video, forget trying to do this repair. You have zero chance of success
Amazing video! I'm about to do this repair on a second hand A2442 I bought near me for only $600 CAD! I've never done any hot air soldering but I'm an electrician by trade and have been wanting to get into the small stuff for so long; the clear instructions and filming of this video gave me the confidence to pull the trigger on the tools and parts I needed! I'll update in a few weeks when the display arrives either super happy or very frustrated lmao. One thing though- what's with the double post on the other channel? It was posted on the same date but instead includes a very detailed description I wish this one had tbh. Thanks a lot for the video, this certainly demystifies this repair quite a bit.

You're welcome!
Do the A2442 display have a serial# somewhere when you removed the panel?
Question, where would I find the stencil, solder paste, and adhesive? I think I could do this but need those items.
On our website!

any way we can get a lcd replacement repair for any of the 2017-2020 macbooks, specifically the the air lineup.
Can you put a link to all the stuff you used. Trying to do it myself at home but dont have any tools.

Great video! What kind of tape did you use to stick the new lcd back into the frame?
1mm Tessa black tape
Can you transfer the chip to the aftermarket plus screens on Mobilesentrix?
yes

question, if have any brand difference in internal screen? ( like LG,....etc i have eared some say , is there any truth in that?
What is the grid you are placing over the ball grid array called?
a stencil
No dust between LCD and backlight?
Hi what tape do you use? Over time it becomes loose because the tape similar in the video is not strong enough
1mm Tessa black tape
is the angled stencil that you used for the smaller chip the same pitch (0.40)?
ah, caught a glimpse and it looks like it was 0.35
Does the True Tone feature active with a new screen?
True tone is a function of the camera/ALS so yes as long as you put a new LCD panel into the original LCD housing
hello, what tape did you used for the lcd panel?
1mm Tessa black tape
is necesary to replace both ic from the original lcd panel to replacement lcd panel?
Same doubt
