    Like you, I've been through a lot of work environment changes. Today I just have the Studio Display connected to my MacBook Air 15" and when I want to game, I use my HP Omen with a RTX 3080 using thunderbolt as well. My keyboard and mouse are connected via USB on the back of the Studio Display and everything work beautifully. No docks, no extra cables and the 5K res is just perfect for a 1440p scaling at 200% in Windows. Speakers work, microphone work, camera work. I think it's a THE BEST minimalist / portable / good performant / hybrid setup, one can have these days. I just hope maybe for a future OLED version with 90Hz at least, but not a deal breaker. It feels so good to have thing that do a lot, with very few stuff. Nice video!

  • @liam4184
    @liam4184 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

    as a minimalist myself, I love the look of this setup. But as some others have said, I'm not sure how convenient is actually is. Removing a bunch of gear is always nice, but when you're sacrificing so much, I'm not sure I'd go that extra mile myself. Mainly things like not having proper speakers, no light bar on the monitor etc..

    • @Metamine0
      @Metamine0 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Eh, the speakers on the Studio Display are better than many speakers under $60-$70, and the sound quality is good enough for every day use, music, and gaming. While Daniel doesn't use a monitor light, he is using that small softbox light which gives a similar effect to a monitor light. It's not that he's sacrificing so much, just compromising certain aspects of a setup for minimilasm and simplicity.

    The HP Z27, Z32 and Z38c displays are pretty good, minimalistic enough for most people and can be found for €250,- up to €850 euros. They're all 4K(-ish) and have power delivery, mat screen finish, use metal for the base and enough (USB) ports to use as a hub. A few months ago I would've agreed with you on the Studio, there simply was not something better for productivity on a Mac. However, LG dropped their 32" 4k OLED recently with an improved pixel substructure that fixes text clarity issues on previous OLEDs. That monitor has a non-gamery design and has the matte coating that I assume you prefer, it also has very good speakers (I assume just as good as the studio display) although it doesn't have the USB hub of other alternatives, you'll have to buy that separately and hide it under the desk. Oh and the 240hz OLED panel is a joy to use for content consumption, it's leagues better than the Apple Studio.

    • @Peahnuts
      @Peahnuts 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think the main thing is the 5K (and colour accuracy) - allowing for macOS to do a clean doubling of its 1440p UI rather than produce a 5K image that is downscaled to 4K.

    • @houssamalucad753
      @houssamalucad753 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Peahnuts understandable. For the color accuracy most of these new OLEDs have an sRGB (as accurate as the studio) and an Adobe RGB mode (which is better than the studio for those that need to work with HDR).
      As for the resolution, yes, I'm aware double the native resolution is best for Mac scaling, but the contrast and color pop of OLEDs give the illusion of better resolution, and it's not like 4k at 32" isn't sharp even at macOS basic scaling. Furthermore when using his PC the scaling is a non issue.

    I spent years buying Windows laptops based on the spec sheet. The problem with that is that the stuff that annoys you about a laptop isn't the stuff that appears on the spec sheet. Most recently for me, a laptop with weedy speakers mounted on the bottom and a fan that would rival a 747 for noise, meaning that if you wanted to put your laptop on the sofa or bed and watch a TH-cam video, you could barely hear it. And don't get me started on how many keyboard keys that I've broken. The thing about going for the best spec at the lowest price is that they've usually got there by cutting corners on stuff you can't see. And if they haven't cut any corners, they're probably roughly the same price as the Macbook anyway.

    Hello Daniel! Do you edit videos yourself or have you hired someone? I’m an editor and would love to discuss how I could help, if you’re interested

    I respect every one of your setups and home living tours. But Now after watching the third / fourth? (i've lost count) I am starting to wonder about these video types. Why not just find a location and settle? You are constantly changing everything. Why isn't longer stays playing a part of your planning process?
