Digimon Tamers Is Actually Deeper Than I Remember

- So very outta the blue I ended up sitting down and rewatching the entirety of Digimon's third season Tamers. My personal favorite of the Digimon franchise next to Frontiers and Data Squad.
Upon my rewatch for the first time ever because honestly i hadn't gotten to watch it since I was little i picked up on a lotta reoccurring themes that before I didn't comprehend because i was much younger when I Initially watched.
Hopefully yall enjoy hearing my thoughts! - ภาพยนตร์และแอนิเมชัน
Also to note. Jerry didn't just forgive beelzemon after she made peace with Leomon's passing. She didn't forgive him and he accepted he wasn't forgiven even though he wanted to apologize for what he had done. His remorse wasn't for Jerry to forgive him, it was remorse for the sake of remorse. Even in adult shows they don't typically cover that just because you overcome a wrong done to you doesn't mean you forgave the person who wronged you.
I guess I just misinterpreted the interaction.i was swapping between the English and Japanese versions a lot tbh 😭there were a couple things that seemed rather different between the two versions. thanks for correcting me though honestly.
checked the sub and it seems pretty clear that jerry forgave impmon with her looking at him with a warm smile after impmon asked for forgiveness and impmon, in return, tearing up after seeing that before getting interrupted. And if this isn't enough we do have the "Message in the Packet" cd drama where she admits to forgiven him and being very puzzled by it after all he have done to her.
@@Jav0kk personally i think Jerri should have ended up being Impmon's tamer(i know impmon already had his tamers)because after that forgivness they would have had a better bond and connection in my opinion
I loved how much this season was a meta commentary on the monster taming genre. Taking the premise of a kid dreaming to have a pet monster and then having things go wrong, and testing the basic premise itself with trials and tribulations.
Ironically despite the "careful what you wish for" sub theme, this season made me wish for a Digimon more than anything else.
I always loved that aspect of the season. They’re really were careful with how the presented the narrative and spoke upon the idea of “taming” monsters.
Plus digimon having a voice to properly communicate and express their feelings on matters at hand was nice.
There's a reason why some people call Digimon Tamers "Baby's first Neon Genesis Evangelion."
Digimon Tamers is my favorite anime tbh.
One thing I'd like to add is that I always thought of the relationship between the tamer and their mon to be kind of like that between a parent and a child.
It makes sense considering Digimon is a spin-off of Tamagotchi, a monster *raising* simulator, and you can still feel the Tamagotchi DNA in the Digimon franchise.
The way that Takato was teaching Guilmon always reminded me of my own mom. Or Ruki always wanting Renamon to be the best reminded me of my dad. And then their anxieties about their digimon evolving, like a parent worrying about their child growing up.
At least that's what I saw, although I'm not a parent myself.
Wow I actually never thought of it that way. That especially makes sense with guilmon. He was actually like super baby especially before they evolved.
Tamers is definitely my favorite season.
Definitely my favorite season. I remember way back so many people hated Jeri. Which only grew more when she didn't take Beelzemon's hand when they went to rescue her by themselves. I didn't though, we as the audience know just how much Impmon had changed prior to that moment. But Jeri doesn't & it also doesn't hurt that she's literally being used a battery for grief & despair. So when impmon uses the very move her partner uses to break open the barrier, it's only natural for her to remember leomons death again.
Yea tbh i never understood Jeri hate. maybe its because ppl weren't used to seeing that type of character in a kids show at the time. But having stuff like adventure time under my belt nowadays i personally came to really appreciate how they handled her and other characters characterization.
Maan, I love watching Tamers reviews. My favorite season from my favorite franchise. I remember waking up super early every day before school so I could record every episode on old recordable vhs tapes. Excellent video! Definitely can relate
easily one of my favorite Mon series. wish it got the same mass appeal pokemon did solely so we could have more series/merch
best digimon season and one of my fave animes
honestly it might be! im wanting to rewatch data squad and frontiers now to see if they come close to it.
@@redsagexxv Frontiers and Data Squad have neat gimmicks, but I really don't think there's been a true rival to Tamers since the original Adventure series. What it had was really unique and was, by far, approached from a much more mature perspective. It kind of sucks that we probably won't see another Digimon show that will rival its narrative and characters
Probably next to Frontier and Adventure ❤
Tamers also first Digimon season that actively give kids Superpowers in even canon
I'm a huge fan of Digimon but the one thing that's pretty similar to Pokémon is the main protagonist Ash and some of his traveling companions treat their Pokemon like best friends/family and not just for battling as well.
I’ve been in the same boat recently, haven’t watched Tamers since the Jetix days but I decided to watch the Japanese version this time around and it’s like watching it for the first time all over again.
Yea tbh its made me go back to a lot of older shows ive only watched dubbed previously. It always interesting to see what things are thematically a little different.
I just recently bought Terriermon/ Lopmon deck😅😅 so those rabbits are from this newer Digimon series 😂
This rabbit thing is definitely hilarious, runs around with a gun and turns into a Mecha Armor
But his baby form is just this stuffed plushie 🤣👏
i would highly recommend watching Tamers.
also...uh...this came out in the early 2000s. not quite "new", but, still a good one.
its funny cause usually the main agumon type is my favorite but this season Terriermon was my Goat. i remember they popped up in digimon movie and i fell in love. just such a fun little guy. love that he digivolves and is a war machine lmao
One thing in Digimon is that I always think of the two worlds.
The Digital World and the Human World, I can't really say the Real World because to Digimon living in the Digital World, their Digital World is THEIR Real World.
It's like in Pokemon when Gen 1 Ash says a real animal like a Cow. (This is the Pokemon world, what's a Cow????)
The symbiotic relationship between the two is very interesting too. I always liked especially in like adventure we see how digimon can directly influence technology and whatnot.
Best digimon series ever.
“I like background noise when doing other things” I’m actually using this video as background noise.
First season still the best by a mile, this one lacked a good villan and epic battles, the story is amazing though and go into deep stuff for sure.
1 and 3 season are the best for sure
This was the best one out of all of them. Hands down
I definitely agree. It's just wow, the best animated season so far for the franchise.
Adventure 01 is the best ever by far but Tamers had a unique style and treated depression and computer data to another level.
I do quite like your philosophical take on biomerging setting this series apart from other monster training shows, the idea of the two sharing a bond so strong they literally become one. Although, my pragmatic take still also sees it as just a convenient way to avoid cutting away from the monster fighting action to show the kids awkwardly standing around on the sidelines, or getting caught up dodging stray attacks as the destructive magnitude of the battles escalate.
Doubly so when the next series would ditch the idea of partners entirely and just have the kids be their own Digimon thought transformations.
its crazy cause that thought came to me at like 4am while watching it. It really highlighted subconsciously why i love Tamers. Also your makes a lotta sense too in terms of things they have to take times to animate it like they did in first seasons.
Tbh i might have to talk about frontiers someday. Need to watch japanese version first though.
@@redsagexxv: I should really consider giving Frontier a watch someday, too. I passed on it back in the day, mostly because the change of channel and time slot meant I'd have needed to put a bit more effort into watching it, but also partly because the loss of partners meant it no longer had one of my favorite aspects of these kind of shows.
The 90s Spider-Man animated series was my introduction to the emotion/ feeling of depression. Specifically the episode that ended on a cliffhanger with not-Mary Jane turning into a puddle of water and Peter screams into the sky
Regarding this Digimon season, it was one of my least favorites specifically bc the girl was depressed. When I first watched it as a 5yr old kid I didn’t understand why she just wouldn’t get over her loss. She irritated and annoyed me every time she was on screen and it felt tedious watching her every time she’s get screen time. Her sulking annoyed me more than anything at that age.
However now as an adult I commend the writers for tackling such a heavy topic in a great way. My opinion is vastly different now that I’ve revisited the show with more understanding as an adult. 10/10
@@JunkHERO99 I definitely get that feeling that way at first. When it first started when I was younger I was genuinely confused by some aspects of Juri but I also came to understand and even relate more as I grew and got to come back to this.
She’s honestly probably the most interesting character late series that’s not the main 3.
I was on the fence about season 3 at first, given how much it changed up from the Adventure continuity. But I was hooked by episode 5.
Thats interesting actually. The changes definitely are jarring at first but I really liked they direction they took it to differentiate it from other series.
23 years later
Way better than adventure
what makes you say so? I half agree cause I think it depends on what parts of adventure we're talking about and if we're including the movies.
cuz having any Superpowered Beings that aren't strictly digimon, including even give kids Superpowers?
Greatest Digimon series
I love this show great video
me too! It was extremely fun to go back to tbh. Also glad you enjoyed the video!
My favorite
favorite season
I remember hating this season as a kid. Not sure why, given the rave reviews it's gotten over the years. I wonder if my perspective would change as an adult.
you should definitely give it another watch. I think its important to revisit stuff we watched in past. Opinions could change based on where you are in life or what experiences you've had that have also changed your outlook.
What I appreciate about Tamers now as an adult is the kids working not only together with their partner digimon but also the adults. The 'no adults in sight' trope is old and boring to me.
Yea FR! it just makes sense that the adults who can wouldnt just leave things to kids only. its more realistic tbh.
Anyone else disappointed with ghost game compared to this? The real life consequences of tamers felt so good to me. In ghost game all these things happen but they don't have any lasting consequences. No governmental power comes to investigate all this stuff. For some reason the addition of those like in tamers is very intriguing to me. In ghost game there's hardly ever any collateral damage. They just swap over to a parallel dimension. That's so lame. I was excited when I heard it would be horror. Thought it meant it would be older people show. We need more digimon shows that deal with deeper heavier stuff. Anyone else feel that way about such aspects?
I'm ngl i don't even look at Digimon past data squad UNLESS its the new remake of adventure or the continuation movies. Maybe someday I'll give the newer gen a fair shake but at the moment idk if im up for it.
@@redsagexxv😭😂
@@redsagexxv You should give Xros Wars a try, do *not* watch it dubbed though, out of all Digimon shows, this is the one that should absolutely be watched subbed as the dub was botched.
Appmon is weird but very enjoyable once you get past the barrier of it being "Digimon with Digimon knock-offs."
The two latest Digimon Adventure movies are also great.
But yeah, Ghost Game and Adventure 2020 were very dissapointing.
I dropped ghost gate mid way as for me there was no clear plot, every episode just felt random , with no purpose, not sure if on the second half this was resolved, but I waited almost 30 episodes before dropping
@@syaoran1988 Yeah, Ghost Game has no plot, fropped around the same place you did, there are some fun episodes but you just don't get attached to the characters due to the episodic nature of Ghost Game.
Bro you got me a little mad. Digimon Tamers did establish the brant as Pokemons Cousin? If anything Digimon prooved that it has much more substance than Pokemon in regards of their animes.
If you go back and listen I think that’s actually what I said pretty much 💀
Digimon Adventures 1 & 2 and Tamers were amazing but received a lot of flack at the time due to its similarity to Pokémon which had launched around the same time. Anyone who would watch both of these series would quickly realize that the two series, while sharing a somewhat similar premise from a far view, were actually very very different from each other. In my opinion while Pokémon is fun, Digimon has always been far superior at storytelling and while we don't get many games, all have been decent or better. Considering most of the Digimon games are vastly different from each other and are still good states something, Meanwhile 90% of Pokémon games share the same exact structure.
Juri is nothing like Selfish abusive Asuka Langlee Soryu. Take that awful slander away.
I get where you’re coming from. But imo that’s a gross misinterpretation of asuka. Character is much deeper than that. BUT THIS isn’t about her lol.
It’s why I kept the mention brief. The moment I had in mind that the comparison came from was also brief.
