¡Bravo Sabbatini!...
Sabattini was a superb Arturo in Il Puritani at Covent Garden, then disappeared for about ten years until I saw him in a recital at St. John's, Smith Square, London, some ten years later. He is an exemplary lyric tenor, and why he is not more famous I do not know. He is a real singer.
Nowadays Mr. Sabbatini dont sing anymore. He had his debut in Latin America as a conducter this week at Teatro S. Pedro, in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Still a great musician!
You're totally right, he has an enormous wobble now. I suppose what I should have said was, Why wasn't he more famous in his prime? and why aren't there more recordings with him?
Giacomini! Though some people would argue that he's a bit too heavy ^^ I agree that this role is beautiful even for the lighter voices, but after the first two acts the requirements shift totally. Anyone who has attempted to sing the full role knows that the third act is a complete killer and isn't suited for leggieros nor light-liricos. This aria however is so beautiful that it makes it all worth it. Same goes for the duet that comes after.. oh Puccini! :)
the reason he's not singing at the Met (or anywhere really) is because now, in 2012, his voice is totally destroyed. Sometime in the mid-90's his voice began to fall apart and now it's a shadow of its former self. Hard to understand why in light of the fact that he appeared to have such good technique
Sin duda alguna es un gran cantante, incluso admiro mucho ese Do sobreagudo, pero aun asi, su interpretacion es demaciado exacta para mi gusto, no se toma las libertades de todo buen tenor! Pero eso no le quita lo grande!
I perfectly agree on both points! By killer I mean that the orchestration and general weight of the piece is much greater and is therefore more susceptible to be abused by an unempathetic conductor, demanding public or preoccupied ideas by the singer himself. The way a lighter voice cuts through the orchestra is amazing (Gregory Kunde in his prime!), but I still believe that the role is left to =/>liricos if one is to determine a fach for this part.
Outstanding. What a great singer! Why is he not singing lead roles at the met, instead of the crap they have now? It's a bit too slow, but that certainly isn't Sabbatini's fault.

great! fantastic high C! Thanks for posting this great performance.
i believe the hi C is an example of a perfect Vocal Mix! very brilliant tenor!!! great! great! great!
vocal technique is, again, fundamental prior to everything else. Make him effortless on singing this difficult aria, bravo!
I heard him live on several occasions and liked him very much, I do not know why he stopped singing so early...
This is a fantastic performance! The music suits his voice so well, and vice versa.
Maravilloso. Wonderful. Qué linea. Qué colocación. Excelente!
Hai una facilità sugli acuti impressionante!
Una delle migliori interpretazioni!!!

Why wasn't this guy one of the "Three Tenors"? On hearing excerpts from this concert, he was better than any of them!!

be careful violins!

Listen to Neil Shicoff. I knew this entire aria by the age of 8 even though I was a girl, By the way I still am a girl LOL
@piax00
I see where you're coming from, but La Boheme is waaay too heavy for a leggiero. Even liricos have a hard time getting through the third act.
Outstanding. What a great singer! Why is he not singing lead roles at the met, instead of the crap they have now? It's a bit too slow, but that certainly isn't Sabbatini's fault.
Don't you just envy these leggiero tenors? So effortless, you want to laugh in joy. Jonas Kauffman, stay AWAY from this repertoire.
Great high notes, if only he could keep that high position into the rest of the voice, then I might actually pay to hear him.
@linow666
excelente pero la orquesta al principio mete las patas
@osiarap Better than Stephen Costello for sure but better than Pavarotti, come on.
