Wow, Impressive. The first time I got to Moho and back, I used an orbital fuel tank as well. 1. I wanted all my kerbals outside for a screenshot, so I did. 2. I put all my kerbals back inside. 3. I burned for Kerbin. 4. Halfway there I found out that I had forgotten a kerbal :P He's still here to this day.... Oh poor Bradney Kerman.....
Guitarfollower22 i get 1 kerbal to laythe but still have a problem with unstable trajectory on duna, i m also bad at ssto spaceplane, now i got 1 kerbal on moho but wasted too much fuel in the landing, i doubt i can return
Great video! Moho is my personal nemesis, for some reason whatever mission I send there, it never goes according to the plan. When you were reentering on Kebin at over 4.7km/s I was unwillingly holding my breath!
You need some spare fuel to slow yourself down, or try to make an aerocapture with fairly high altitude, i'm not a KSP youtuber, but i hope i will in 2019, resurrecting my landings in 1.5 now
Nah man... How did you do this?! This is SO amazing!! And I gotta say, the music does its job! Great work, I almost cant wait for the next vid! I gotta say the waiting is definetly worth it! Great video, keep up the good work!
I did a moho mission not too long ago. Ablator doesn't burn up if you have radiators placed near the heatshield. I had three of the large, non-folding ones, and the ablator wasn't touched at all through the whole mission until reentry.
dude, i did a mission called sundiver, which got to an elliptical orbit around the sun with a periapsis of about 100000 k, you should do a mission that gets in even closer!
I spent time setting up a space station around Moho, now I have a reusable Lander attached to this Station, it lands on Moho, gathers resources and returns with those resources, A larger rocket goes to kerbin, dispenses the Ore and returns with more fuel for the next run
when i did a moho mission, i got my fuel lines wrong, so i had to pump fuel a lot, on an insertion, that lasted 20 minutes. I barely did it, mostly because i was killing my velocity, buying myself more time.
Well, actually it´s much more efficient to just land with a small lander. You could even redock and refuel multiple times, landing in many different biomes.
Matt, I know how to fix the sunflare. First, go to your KSP main menu. You should see he Scatterer menu in the top left. If you look in there, a setting called Sunflare is there. Disable it and your sun will be the default ksp one. Hope this helps!
as the "if you just planned" method is elusive for a noob, the brute force method is the clear method of choice lol. and this is still has orbital refueling? Dammn
i was using xeon propulsion on a drone inside the joolian system, ... much fun, especially when you have low battery capacity in the nice shadow of jool :D
You're never going to do a rover mission. A simple mission from the highlands of the mun to the canions and craters took 5 ksp days, and 20 hours (including some crashes) in real time. Though the whole trip got me around 2000 science with just the goo and thermometer.
I'm new to ksp in my career mode I made my first orbit I took jeb outside to do Eva report but I couldn't get him back in than lost mono propellent so he's forever orbiting kerbin how do I save him?
what happened to your other moho and back single launch video where u lost your ablative shields and then landed safely on kerbin using the engine module to absorb the heat from re-entry???
In what way does Moho destroy ablative shields? Is it literally just the speed of re-entry on return, or is it the proximity to the sun on Moho itself?
Hey, this video was uploaded a long time ago but I have a question : How does planning would have reduced the fuel requirement ? Gravity assist from eve ?
Turbo pumped did a Moho SSTO once. But I guess this approach is only for the chosen ones, we plebs have to do it like in this video with loads of big parts and apollo style landing.
Stoyan Todorov not always, i accidentally discover a perfect angle for moho transfer, that shall save delta v, angle = moho 45 degrees in front of kerbin, but still need much thrust
How do you go to planets with such small rockets? I made huge rockets and they can't even get to the Mun, and then you can make tiny rockets that can get to Duna and stuff!
This rocket is not actually tiny. He zoomed out. Also, he uses NERV engines, which are the most efficient engines in the game (besides turbofan engines). The engines he used to get out of kerbin's atmosphere are the GIANT 3.75m engine clusters, or the Rapier SSTO engines.
Snakedog49 no, TWR of that thing, nuclear engine provide 60 kN of thrust each one, with 3 tons of its mass and extra mass from other parts, it became too heavy to land easily
I rather stick to gravity assist and about few km/s delta v course correction combo than brute force flight profile. You almost flown this ship like The1pod2, except you're more efficient than him.
Matt Lowne um I want to make Kerbal Space Progam Cinematics for youtube, and I want camera tools mod, where could you find a 1.1.3 version, because I installed it and I cant seem to find it. Besides great video!:D
Moho is frickin so close, you need SEVERAL Purple Demon flybys to touch a part of Moho's orbit, better use brute force, avoid nukes to decrease timespan even further

I'm so sorry... I should have left val too.
At least he would live his last days in glory...
Send out a rescue mission!
and it was at this moment, that kerbal kind realized their potential for immortality
12345DJay Exactly! The young padowan will grow strong on Moho
seriously dude do a rescue mission xD
reentry directed by Michael Bay
lol
BOOOOOOM
no it is not... not enough explosions to be Michael Bay
Yes it is,THAT WAS A FREAKING NUCLEAR EXPLOSION!
The NERVAS
I really like the idea of leaving fuel tank in orbit and then getting it back. Job well done sir.
Such a simple yet elegant idea. ANd it's why I too often fall back on brute force. Not so much laziness but stupidity.
Yeah, I thought about it once, but I didn't get the thing into orbit correctly
(And I didn't know) So I was stuck on the Mun...
It's so genius that SpaceX plans to use it for their MCT or ITS (depending on what time period you live in).
Congratulations on 27,000 subscribers, Matt! :)

This dude over here flying to far ass planets meanwhile I'm over here trying to land my shit on the Mun.
Seen someone doing Eeloo and back?
Scott Manley did that, in 0.18!
same
I CAN GET TO MINMUS FOR A SUNDAY DRIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also I destroyed some stuff on duna x3!
Completed a duna mission in three years time, failed reentry.
Guitarfollower22 i get 1 kerbal to laythe but still have a problem with unstable trajectory on duna, i m also bad at ssto spaceplane, now i got 1 kerbal on moho but wasted too much fuel in the landing, i doubt i can return
if the planet is far away, don't bother with efficiency, just add moar boosters :D
yaaaaaaaaaAAAaaaaAaa
MrPosbi not more boosters , BUT MOAR TWR
Boosters
More Boosters
MOAR BOOSTERS
*MOOOAAAARRR BOOOZZTAZZZ*
Install a warp-drive mod for good measure, especially for planet packs that add different star systems, like GEP
Me: hey Matt, haven't made a video in a bit
Matt: dude, just give me some space
+ViperGB 9/11
+ViperGB 9/11
Me: but why?
Hey, I can get to Moho! Just because I always slam into the surface at 1km/s doesn't mean I can't get there!
i know, just get enough thrust to kill velocity that much
Landed (safely) ?
Just relanded in 1.5 with a "same" ship i used in 1.0.5
awesome ship design!
Still my favorite matt lowne vid. Even after all these years.
Oh my god that lovely Majesty of Earth by Gareth Coker! I had goosebumps just from the start of video!
Great video! Moho is my personal nemesis, for some reason whatever mission I send there, it never goes according to the plan. When you were reentering on Kebin at over 4.7km/s I was unwillingly holding my breath!
Hi Mark!
Haha that's another great thing about the inflatable shield, it can withstand any re-entry and shields the payload amazingly well
You need some spare fuel to slow yourself down, or try to make an aerocapture with fairly high altitude, i'm not a KSP youtuber, but i hope i will in 2019, resurrecting my landings in 1.5 now
Nah man... How did you do this?! This is SO amazing!! And I gotta say, the music does its job! Great work, I almost cant wait for the next vid! I gotta say the waiting is definetly worth it! Great video, keep up the good work!
I really like your designs, very visually appealing.
I know this was 5 years ago, but that is a lot of debris that younger you left in orbit.
why does moho destroy ablative heat shields?
Being that close to the sun burns up the ablator
Matt Lowne Ok
I did a moho mission not too long ago. Ablator doesn't burn up if you have radiators placed near the heatshield. I had three of the large, non-folding ones, and the ablator wasn't touched at all through the whole mission until reentry.
dude, i did a mission called sundiver, which got to an elliptical orbit around the sun with a periapsis of about 100000 k, you should do a mission that gets in even closer!
Hey matt! ya know I did a mission to moho with the ablative heat shield as a last result and I never found the issue of the heat shields heat off
My first attempt to land on moho was with drogue shutes and normal ones.
Didn't end well
Think of it as "re entry confetti"
I spent time setting up a space station around Moho, now I have a reusable Lander attached to this Station, it lands on Moho, gathers resources and returns with those resources, A larger rocket goes to kerbin, dispenses the Ore and returns with more fuel for the next run
Enjoy! Twitter, music and craft file are in the decription! :)
Why didnt you planet
hehe :D
Can you make a giant space station orbiting around kerbal and then make a rocket crash into it by "accident"?
muted the soundtrack, played the Phil Collins STRANGERS LIKE ME instead. It was a fantastic match!
Here's challenge for you dock a suborbital ship with a ship in orbit while to suborbital ship is in a suborbital trajectory
what mods did you use and what version is this?
I love your vids! Also that you put craft files in the description. You are awesome!!!!
Good job Matt. Looks like a professional did this trip.
dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that was a amazingly well planed and executed mission.
I don't even have the words for how amazing you are
Great video. Moho eats heat shields, didn't know that. the more you knooooow.
Waka waka.
how is that? Can someone explain this?
can you mitigate that with radiators?
Your ship design is beautiful!
Nice mission. Love you more comedic themed Kerbaling as well.
Challenge: Launch planets into orbit around every planet, in one trip.
Your skills are amazing Matt
Wow, Matt...that was incredible! Fantastic video, great music...you've got talent my friend! Keep up the great work!
when i did a moho mission, i got my fuel lines wrong, so i had to pump fuel a lot, on an insertion, that lasted 20 minutes. I barely did it, mostly because i was killing my velocity, buying myself more time.
Moho was once a moon of Eve, to which it was tidally locked, hence the +50 Kerbin days' day length.
dude....awesome mission! your reentry was the shit tho...so cinematic with the exploding debris! nicely done sir!
That was pretty damn epic! I mean of course music is a powerful tool for emotion, but the editing was superb. Nicely done!
That landing platform with science... are you telling me that I don't have to do a barrel roll when I drop down? :P
Nice design, great video :D
Thanks! :)
Very good choice of music
If this was really a brute force mission, you should've flown straight up to get off of Kerbin and Moho.
One of your cooler designs in my opinion
The only reason he had the shell split up into multiple pieces is because it would look more badass
How can you manage to take off and have a perfect encounter with another craft in orbits all the times?
Lots of experience.
And Kerbal alarm clock
+Jupiter and magic
+Michael Christesen I mean Matt-gic!
+Michael Christesen yes, don't forget magic
anyone remember pre nerf .17 moho? man that was brutal.
Could you tell me more?
@@MRWALLFan I think engines were overheating extremely fast at that time which made it super hard to land on Moho.
Well done my friend.
Very well done.
GG Matt, But you let 3 reservoir of LF in space!!! Let do a mission for remove space debris!
I've used ablative heat shields on free return from Moho.
Nicely done!
The music keeps trolling me into thinking it's that one instrumental christmas song.
That ship is so cool!
this thing looks like a missile, missiles use brute force, coincidence? I think NOT!
ILLOWNEATTI CONFIRMED
extra fuel tank in orbit! That is genius mate...
Say that to NASA and their apollo program.
wht I mean Is that I would not have thought of using that technique
Well, actually it´s much more efficient to just land with a small lander. You could even redock and refuel multiple times, landing in many different biomes.
I like the song
We are going to Moho. To stay.
Matt, I know how to fix the sunflare. First, go to your KSP main menu. You should see he Scatterer menu in the top left. If you look in there, a setting called Sunflare is there. Disable it and your sun will be the default ksp one. Hope this helps!

Heres a challenge
Create a rocket that goes to jool
Medium:it has to be low budget
Hard mode:impress me
Not really hard. Could be kind of difficult if it was an SSTO or with no nuclear engines.
Epsilon jool "landing" mission he mean
This video gave me so much knowledge actually xD Thanks!
I did this mission with a single Kerbal but no refueling necessary...it was scary though XD
What! I could not get to the mun with that much fuel...
beautiful
Great Video! Nice Work!
Wy do ablative shields get destroyed by Moho?
The heat from Kerbol, I'm guessing. Remember, Moho=Mercury and Merc is VERY close to the sun relatively
Joseph Gurgui mercury temp
And i did that in 1.5 LOL
Because Moho's so close to the sun that the heat will be too much for ablative shields to take.
You should do a career mode series :D
another great video, keep it up!
Great video!
I landed on Moho, but that was months ago. And it took almost every bit of fuel (and luck) I could pull out of my @#$
Joseph Gurgui congrats
RIP Matt
lel, he done this in 2016, i just returned from a moho mission 2 days ago using only brute force approach
Nice job!
Wow the nuclear engine burn took 45 minutes
Jool missions can take to an hour
i was using xeon propulsion on a drone inside the joolian system, ... much fun, especially when you have low battery capacity in the nice shadow of jool :D
How do people have patience for that, because i don't
- start burn
- play with your phone
- do homework
- cook dinner
- go for a walk
- finish burn
You're never going to do a rover mission.
A simple mission from the highlands of the mun to the canions and craters took 5 ksp days, and 20 hours (including some crashes) in real time.
Though the whole trip got me around 2000 science with just the goo and thermometer.
Nice video, why you haven't 1.000.000 subscribers?
I just got an encounter with moho and it takes 10k of delta v to brake and make an orbit around moho? dafuq? is my craft weighing too much or
I'm new to ksp in my career mode I made my first orbit I took jeb outside to do Eva report but I couldn't get him back in than lost mono propellent so he's forever orbiting kerbin how do I save him?
silkynads the wise learn rendezvous and get as close as possible
Uh Huston..The eagle has landed
Around the sun and back maybe?
now, go to Moho in an SSTO like turbo pumped :)
what happened to your other moho and back single launch video where u lost your ablative shields and then landed safely on kerbin using the engine module to absorb the heat from re-entry???
Matt!! OMG it's been 2 weeks now!! Are you on vacation?
whats wrong with the inflatable shield in general? i like it alot
I cant even rondevou with anything in space ;(
love the muice
Awesome!
To the all planets and back
Difficulty: over9000
YES
In what way does Moho destroy ablative shields? Is it literally just the speed of re-entry on return, or is it the proximity to the sun on Moho itself?
For the stage to Moho I think Yu should. Put 4 nuclear engines cause 2 really isn't that much for moho
Stoyan Todorov not always, i accidentally discover a perfect angle for moho transfer, that shall save delta v, angle = moho 45 degrees in front of kerbin, but still need much thrust
no inclination burn :P
no docking :P
+ linear alignment to moho uninclined spots
Nice job! ;D
The engines he used to get out of kerbin's atmosphere are the GIANT 3.75m engine clusters, or the Rapier SSTO engines.
striker113 Neat.
Epsilon ion engines are also efficient, with 4200 vacuum ISP, the most efficient engine in vacuum space, but too weak
im assuming moho has a high gravitational pull and thats why the mission is so difficult
Gravity assists increase the mission time generally, and I find it more fun to avoid them and just use fuel.
Matt Lowne But Moho is close to Kerbol so it will take you less time to get there, even with gravity assist.
I have a challenge to you : Do a Duna SSTO without RAPIER engine .
No hard. I saw a Tylo SSTO with no rapier or ramjet
Great video! Any mods used? What version?
Hey matt, i challenge you to go to the mun and back using ONLY xenon propulsion >:D
Not possible, like, litteraly not possible since 1.0, TWR of Dawn Engine is low that it cant even lift his own weigh horizontally ( plane design )
Epic! :)
turbo pumped did it in a tiny ssto.
Some day you will do a video about landing on Mars with the real universe mod?:)
Why does he need to? Elon is already making one.
+sagiksp And who cares avout Elon? I want to see from Matt, not from Elon...
***** It was a joke. Elon was referring to Elon musk.
You can make it to Moho wile I have trouble landing on the moon😞
i cant even orbit kerbin
It's simple!
Orbits 101:
So you want to get in orbit, huh? It's pretty tough though, so this guide should help you along your way!
Chapter 1: reaching space
It is important that before you do any of the orbit shabang, you build a proper rocket. Now I recommend using rockomax parts, because the are sorta in the middle of both size and efficiency. You also need a parachute for reentry (reentry book sold separately) and a heat shield with a decoupler under it.
Chapter 2: manoeuvres
When you're in your orbit map,(press "m" to toggle) you can click on your orbit (shown in blue) and add a manoeuvre. There are three things you can mess with, the Y, X, and Z axis. Mess around with these until the dotted line reaches a desired location.
Chapter 3: executing manoeuvres
When you set a manoeuvre, you should get two small timers by your navigation ball. The upper one shows you how long to burn, and the lower one shows when to burn. When the timer on the bottom is T-0 seconds, you will fire your engines at full throttle, and the top timer will count down until you need to stop burning.
Boom! You're in orbit now! Thanks for using this guide that could easily be supplemented with a quick TH-cam video!
If you want to learn how to reenter, then don't forget to buy our new book on reentry, starting at just 99.98$ plus tax and shipping (49.98$)!
I spent like 20 minutes writing that (0_0)
A mathematical but less wordy way with only 2 stages:
Stage 1: F/m=a>10 and fuel/usage rate for fuel>120
DO NOT FORGET A TOP/FRONT HEAT SHIELD
Stage 2: (F/m)*(fuel/usage rate for fuel)>2,400
If that fails, please PM me with your craft file and I'll see what's going on with it
if it doens't work just add more engines
You should do a draw my life for 30k subs ;)
+Matt Lowne I've always wanted to make my own Kerbal space program video, but I don't know how to record the screen. How do I record the screen?
Jupiter definetily not bandicam
Jupiter nvidia shadowplay, matt used ir

At 3:03 how did you get that encounter so perfect?
