Just a heads up about the lack of VGA-outs on 10-series and later - it's not actually impossible, but the way you go for it isn't exactly ideal as it means dealing with an OEM and volume orders (because my employer would spring for custom new GPUs, but would deny any suggestion to replace legacy monitors and mulitmedia setups until they're still alive :D) and have them to convert one of the DisplayPorts to VGA onboard - it's ugly as sin as a solution, but it works :D

If they had the site running for a long time, I'd say giving out a high tier card like a 1080Ti or higher (especially "current gen" cards) would be a thing, even if it's 1 in a billion cards, then they would be able to say "yeah but look we do send out cards that cost more!", even if it's just the 1. If the site closes shortly after, yeah they didn't ship out any cards even closely matching the price of the actual lootbox.
The address in Baker Street London is a PO Box type service. Loads of companies are registered in one building - gives the impression of a high end company if they have a London office address.

this reminded me when i build my first gaming rig, there was this graphics card (cant remember what card was it) i wanted but the shop selling the that particular card suddenly bumped up the price. So i began walking around to other shops and found this shady shop selling that very same card for a "reasonable" price, i paid the money and the guy just put it in the bag with my other components. while building the rig, i saw this "brand-less" card but it was what i wanted nonetheless. when i fired up the rig for the first time, that card started smoking and it didnt work. the following day i went back to that same shop and discovered that it had "closed down".
Hey Greg, you can try flashing the BIOS on the scam GPU to its real version using one of those clip on programmers. The graphics card is likely a GTS 450 from the PCB and GPU chip. Thought it would be an interesting video endeavour.
Yeah, it's either a 550 Ti or 450. I didn't pull up GPUz when I connected it. Just wanted to see if it was functional. Will post a follow-up video at some point diving into the BIOS, etc. :-)

seriously, my account got hacked and they sent a bunch of money to some Chinese email. Even though paypal sent me an email that suspicious activity was detected and I disputed it right away, they said no unauthorized activity was found. I'm never using them again

I booked hotels through paypal, and the hotel charged my card as well as the paypal, disputed the transaction with proof that I already paid with my card too and was charged twice, and paypal said "sorry, not protected, hotel gets to keep your money" even though they said the purchase was protected. It's a neat card, even nowadays you can play some fun stuff with it, just forget about 2018 and later released 3D games. Also, weirdly enough, I think Linus Tech Tips got GTX 550 Tis aswell when they were buying fake GPUs. Interesting how common this card is.
As far as PayPal getting their money back ... I'm pretty sure that when you use PayPal goods and services, PayPal holds on to the money and only pays the seller upon your receipt of the item. Because you never even received confirmation of the item even being shipped and you disputed the sale before you even received the item, my understanding is that the seller would have never got paid. The only thing PayPal loses out on is their fee they charge the seller for using the service.
I don't think this is true I've sold a lot of things with PayPal Goods and Services, then transferred the money from PayPal to my bank account straight away to use it to ship the item out. (Never had a dispute, but often had no PayPal balance left)

In my country, I saw the exact same GPU with a box and discs like that in my online marketplace. But they tell it was a GT 210 and cheaper than what you paid for.
A gtx210 is actually worse. They are based on similar architecture and the PCB layout is the same generation, so that's why those coolers are everywhere.

Technically saying the 10 series ended support for analog display connectors isn't correct. The 1030 has multiple VGA cards. I believe the 20 series was the first series to have no VGA cards.
There was some 10 series card with VGA. You may actually run into some when buying from China/Korea markets. These 10 series cards can also have some odd memory configuration. These were sold in bulk to large Net Cafee companies. 90% of a time it is a fake, but there is that 10%.

I have a good old msi gtx 550ti, solid card back in the days but very outdated for today. I remember the day nvidia announced discontinuing the driver support for the card. Saved up money and now bought the rtx 3070ti . Defo a upgrade but an expensive one considering I payed 20% more than sticker price.
dawid does tech has done a bunch of videos on those types of cards you essentially got a GT710, I don't know if a " legitimate" lootbox site would do this but I still wouldn't do this.... it's too good to be true
the premise is simple: Someone sells graphics cards for more than they buy them for so they can turn a profit, and the best way to do that is to make people think there's a chance of them coming out on top. It's as simple as that and it's mind blowing people don't realize it. Companies aren't out to help you, they're out to make money. You don't make money from companies, they make money from you.
Had something similar happen with my parent's in terms of getting scammed. They wanted to get me a gaming PC as a gift, so they found a site that offered them for around $700. It basically never worked, so I spent time opening it up and learning. Much like what you saw the "1050ti" had a vga port and I knew they got ripped off for what they spent. This was pre-inflation of tech parts btw.
They include the Driver CD because only those drivers will work with the GPU after they've flashed the GPU to display as a 1050Ti. Some up to date drivers will install but the GPU won't work after.

One of the reasons they may have shipped you some e-waste is if you're a new paypal seller, paypal will hold on to the money until confirmation of delivery. I've just set-up a quick and dirty site to sell facemasks for my movie club and paypal seemed liked the easiest to integrate (and by easiest I mean no up front cost, just a slice of each sale I've built in to the price charged). As a new paypal merchant all my sales are withheld until the tracking codes I enter in to the site update to delivered, once done the systems kick in and the money becomes available to withdraw. (or the customer flags as received) I imagine if you build up a reputation with paypal for being a legitimate seller the funds clear immediately, but it's interesting as a long time customer side and not a merchant to have a peak at the other side of things.

I did the same thing with a 3-ton floor jack. They sent me a tracking number from a package that was already delivered to someone in the UK...I'm in the USA...I used PayPal and got my money back...
arguably a lot of loot box models are a modest value add over RRP over the items found inside, possibly a closer crossover from magazine subscriptions and booster packs? the real problem comes in that the subscription i had for 1 year, the majority of the stuff neither me or my partner particularly wanted. and didn't find the subscription worth resubbing for the next year.
The box says it uses PhysX, so the card isn't even from the LAST decade. from wikipedia: Initially, video games supporting PhysX were meant to be accelerated by PhysX PPU (expansion cards designed by Ageia). However, after Ageia's acquisition by Nvidia, dedicated PhysX cards have been discontinued in favor of the API being run on CUDA-enabled GeForce GPUs.
Analog wasn't completely dropped, the DVI port on some cards did have analogue and you could plug in a dvi to vga adapter. My old 1080 was used with a low resolution vga only lcd monitor to run some old games that didn't have a resolution option.
The product sounds similar if not the same that the sellers on Wish have sold. Most of the time it is either a refurbished GPU or a upcycled mobile GPU that was placed in a "new" card like what they did with some older cpus as well. You should have placed it in a computer to test it out and check what it comes up as. Usually the bios is flashed in this card so it would come up as a 1050ti, the drivers usually install but everything doesn't work well once you push the cards past their actual limitations. Sometimes you can restore functionality if you can find the true bios or at least one compatible, you would need a bios flasher to do so. You should try to "fix" the card as I mentioned in a follow up video as well then do a giveaway as well after!
PP Most likely got the money back. PP keeps the money from G&S transactions on hold for 21 or 28 days. You can only have it go through quicker if you link the transaction to a shipping service. The money will be put into your account a day after the thing is confirmed shipped to your place by the courier.

a GTS 450 is worth €5 at most... I wouldn't bother. the best way to sell/use them is as a display adapter.

They include the cd because it is the 'necessary' driver for continuing the ruse. Any legitimate driver from nvidia would not function.

blind box/mystery box, you gave them money blindly, and they put the card in the package with open eyes. I would say it's only fair that your payment to them is also in the mystery box which contains a percentage from 10 - 100% of the price they asked for.

Technically saying the 10 series ended support for analog display connectors isn't correct. The 1030 has multiple VGA cards. I believe the 20 series was the first series to have no VGA cards.
That box is is the physical manifestation of "Intel integrated Graphics" on the specsheet of a laptop in the Display adapter section
There was some 10 series card with VGA. You may actually run into some when buying from China/Korea markets. These 10 series cards can also have some odd memory configuration. These were sold in bulk to large Net Cafee companies. 90% of a time it is a fake, but there is that 10%.

I have a good old msi gtx 550ti, solid card back in the days but very outdated for today. I remember the day nvidia announced discontinuing the driver support for the card. Saved up money and now bought the rtx 3070ti . Defo a upgrade but an expensive one considering I payed 20% more than sticker price.

the premise is simple:
Someone sells graphics cards for more than they buy them for so they can turn a profit, and the best way to do that is to make people think there's a chance of them coming out on top.
It's as simple as that and it's mind blowing people don't realize it. Companies aren't out to help you, they're out to make money. You don't make money from companies, they make money from you.

Had something similar happen with my parent's in terms of getting scammed. They wanted to get me a gaming PC as a gift, so they found a site that offered them for around $700. It basically never worked, so I spent time opening it up and learning. Much like what you saw the "1050ti" had a vga port and I knew they got ripped off for what they spent. This was pre-inflation of tech parts btw.

They include the Driver CD because only those drivers will work with the GPU after they've flashed the GPU to display as a 1050Ti. Some up to date drivers will install but the GPU won't work after.

Dang, even the 1050 ti was a ripoff for $320. It's like ordering a Corvette, then a Malibu shows up in your driveway, but then the Malibu was just a big poster and behind the poster was a 1982 Chevy Chevette.
Hmm my rtx 2060 came with a cd in it... dont know about the 30 Series but I think a driver CD is still a relatively common thing.

There might be an exception or two with Fermi chip(s) in it actually worth that kind of money - like the Asus Mars 2, but that is a collectible.
you can tell it's a fake or flashed card instantly from the cooler alone, but yes. The video connectors are also a more reliable way to tell if it's fake

One thing people forget is that while PayPal might refund you personally, it doesn’t come out of their profits, it gets passed along to the users of PayPal in some way or another.
My first ever gaming computer was an ASUS prebuilt. The graphics card that came installed in it was an OEM Asus GTX 1050 which did in fact have a VGA port on it. So some 10 series cards did have VGA ports

One of the reasons they may have shipped you some e-waste is if you're a new paypal seller, paypal will hold on to the money until confirmation of delivery.
I've just set-up a quick and dirty site to sell facemasks for my movie club and paypal seemed liked the easiest to integrate (and by easiest I mean no up front cost, just a slice of each sale I've built in to the price charged). As a new paypal merchant all my sales are withheld until the tracking codes I enter in to the site update to delivered, once done the systems kick in and the money becomes available to withdraw. (or the customer flags as received)
I imagine if you build up a reputation with paypal for being a legitimate seller the funds clear immediately, but it's interesting as a long time customer side and not a merchant to have a peak at the other side of things.

arguably a lot of loot box models are a modest value add over RRP over the items found inside, possibly a closer crossover from magazine subscriptions and booster packs?
the real problem comes in that the subscription i had for 1 year, the majority of the stuff neither me or my partner particularly wanted. and didn't find the subscription worth resubbing for the next year.

Analog wasn't completely dropped, the DVI port on some cards did have analogue and you could plug in a dvi to vga adapter. My old 1080 was used with a low resolution vga only lcd monitor to run some old games that didn't have a resolution option.
AFAIK there's no native analog support from the GPU itself without external support. Link the card to which you're referring.

The product sounds similar if not the same that the sellers on Wish have sold. Most of the time it is either a refurbished GPU or a upcycled mobile GPU that was placed in a "new" card like what they did with some older cpus as well.
You should have placed it in a computer to test it out and check what it comes up as. Usually the bios is flashed in this card so it would come up as a 1050ti, the drivers usually install but everything doesn't work well once you push the cards past their actual limitations. Sometimes you can restore functionality if you can find the true bios or at least one compatible, you would need a bios flasher to do so.
You should try to "fix" the card as I mentioned in a follow up video as well then do a giveaway as well after!

PP Most likely got the money back. PP keeps the money from G&S transactions on hold for 21 or 28 days. You can only have it go through quicker if you link the transaction to a shipping service. The money will be put into your account a day after the thing is confirmed shipped to your place by the courier.
