Wow mind=blown. Goes to show there’s always plenty to discover in our sport. Don’t get me wrong, I love flicking a lure around. But bait is what made me fall in love with fishing. There’s something to be said about casting a live bait out, sitting back and cracking a beer with the boys and waiting to see what smashes it.
One other way to slide bait: I had an 18" surf rod and would tie a spreader weight and cast as far as it would go. Reel it slowly let it grab the bottom. Set that rod into a holder or wedge in the rocks real good and reel tight, the rod should bend and line remain nice and snug. Then...with a 2nd fighting rod you loop the slider on but attach it to your main line with a rubber band. You can control how deep you want it to go this way. You can choose to reel your bait back to check it at any time and then slide it back out at your discretion. When you get a hookup, the rubber band breaks free from the anchor rod...and you have your fighting rod directly attached to the fish.
I used these with the Team Catfish weight slides to make a th-cam.com/users/postUgkxdmsDj7fQXe77DC0l7P7ua8B3PiESUubM Carolina rig and they were perfect for the ponds I fish. I have also used them to make 3 way rigs and these work perfectly. Haven't had any issues with them snagging in rocks or in weeds yet.
This technique has been used in south Africa for decades. Used not only for Edibles such as garrick, kob(Jewfish and shad (Taylor), but it's also used when targeting big sharks using baits to big to cast
Awesome fish...sliding started in South Africa. We have been using this technique for years...we even slide from the surf through the waves...you just change the way you hook your bait and shake your rod so that you slide your bait down. But for the past 2 years I don't even slide anymore, our rods allows you now to cast your bait out far enough. You don't have to slide a live bait out... awesome fish and Lekka video🤟🏻🤙🏻

Funny story... I was looking at this style of fishing a couple of years ago because I have always been more for live/cut bait fishing in the surf, which on the sandy beaches of North Carolina USA is not a problem with getting hung up on weed and corals etc but very different situation here in Bali where if you want to find fish from the surf it means fishing over structure and even if you find a sand trough the current will peel the heaviest weight out like a feather, not to mention that the best beaches for fishing the wind is blowing either down the beach or right in your face at 20mph+, so this trolly system seemed like a pretty cool solution. And then one day while researching it I saw a very early video of Cavy casting off the rocks one morning before heading to work. Anyone remember that video??? So, wow, screw live bait, I'm going to get into poppers, which of course lead me to Morning Tide. So, I actually forgot all about live/cut bait fishing and started learning and gearing up to become a Ledge Lord. Still have the homemade rigs as they're not available in Bali and also experimented with a two rod system so that the trolly line only gets pulled in at the end of the day...all gathering dust. So this is really full circle for me. Thanks Briggsy.

Fisherman on Lake Michigan utilize a similar technique for steelhead. We cast a sinker from the break wall (pier) then attach a larger bobber using a snap swivel. Below the bobber is a piece of frozen shrimp. The trick is to have the wind to your back so the bobber drifts away from you.

I was good friends with the great now deceased Angelo depelo, “ deep “ was his nickname. He is credited with fishing this way using this on the east coast after he returned from japan in ww2. Before that they used balloons to float a bait out. But you needed an offshore breeze to get a bout out away from the pier or shore. Look this man up. He was the fire chief on Topsail island. N.C. form the 50s I believe thru 70s. Awesome man. Caught over 1000 kings from the piers. Legend

In South Carolina we call this a Jackson rig! Also google King Mackerel fishing with a trolley rig! Same concept but it uses two rods. One anchor rod and then a fighting rod with a love bait. That how we catch Kong’s from the local Carolina piers.
Used this method in the UK back in the sixties. Caught some big sea bass and cod from the deeper marks and a spectacular cod (27lb) from Rothsall (?) in the North West in 1968/9. Very rarely hear of it now, particularly in UK.

It is a very good technique. This is called a non teturn slide rig used a lot by the asfn shimano team for sliding big dead bait. For the sinker I use sinker with little hook that i hang in the stop ring with thin nylon when it hits the water the sinker just pops off th ring. It allows to use very thin nylon easy to break when big fish takes the bait.
That’s called a slider rig. This is how we fish for sharks off piers in so cal. We have been fishing this way for as long as I can remember. It’s a great way of fish love bait or even dead bait. It allows the bait to go from top water fish until bottom feeders. It’s a cast and leave alone until you get a run. Change the bait every half hour.
Yewww epic! Can't beat a livie some days hey, especially on BIG fish 👌 back home here in QLD the live Winter Whiting are gun baits. Great video as always mate
We use a variation of the setup in the San Francisco Bay for Salmon. For sinker a pyramid sinker reversed for ground traction but the sliding rig we have a styrofoam float with about 20 feet of line attached to the bait, in your case maybe 5ft so it won’t hook up to the corals. When the float disappears under you have a big fish. Good luck mates 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻. 🖖
For me on the Mississippi gulf coast (Northern Gulf of Mexico), I have never seen this before. Looks to be like using an outrigger on the beach. I see those type sinkers at the store but many have a way for the copper or steel prongs to pivot and fold back away from you when pulled hard so you can retrieve the weight and use again.
If I was to throw a fish like that back in the water, my buddies wife would beat me silly, we are all big on eating fish, great video bro, fish bullion all week!!!!
I have a few of those slide bait rigs from Australia in my tackle box from years ago, just can’t get myself to use them because they’re a novel item to have. I think the Hawaiian slide bait rig is more refined/better
Here in Hawaii we’ve been slide bait fishing for a longtime now. I have some of those Australian slide bait rigs from many years ago, so I’m guessing they’ve been doing this for a long time now. This is not new to Australia
F*ck yes gents, Get ‘em! Love the method too man. Definitely going to give it a shot this summer. Chur the brothers! Good luck out there and stay safe.
That's exactly what I was thinking of but those guys I see fishing off piers use two poles. One heavy duty one to get a weight stuck way out, and then they clip the line from the second lighter pole to the first one and work it out. He's only using one pole here, right? I'm not even exactly sure how this method he's using works.
G'day everyone, you can help support collaborations like this by going and checking out the Dixon Bros - th-cam.com/channels/ULJVoAfu2DK6cK6ZamJSAA.htmlfeatured YEW!
I've fished just like this before off rocks and piers...however we use 2 rods with a breakaway leader so when the bait gets hammered the strike alone frees the bait from the anchored weight/ trolly system and the fish can be fought as if you were fishing free line on the 2nd rod. Rarely does the fish get wrapped in the anchored line, happens far less than you think. It's a great way to fish crowded piers for sure.
There's nothing new under the sun but catching fish is always a new thrill!!!

When the float disappears under you have a big fish. Good luck mates 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻. 🖖
Used to slide line anchovies for Bonito, off the Redondo Beach Pier (southern California), back in the early 1960's
I’m definitely gonna try that setup this summer 🤙🐟
Glad to so you guys releasing fish! Well done!
Nice! We do it here in Florida for king mackerel from piers and also monster Red drum. We call it a trolley rig.
an old way or a new way it looks a great way to catch a fish! thanks for sharing
I love this new way of delivering bait. Thanks for the tip and the amazing video! Cheers from Canada.
Not really new bro. We fished this way in Hawaii for over 70 years lol.
If I was to throw a fish like that back in the water, my buddies wife would beat me silly, we are all big on eating fish, great video bro, fish bullion all week!!!!
Mate. You can tell you've caught a fish or two. Good bro bro!
It's called "Elevator" and so popular in Japan.
This is awesome never seen seen this kind of fishing before
incredible big fish dude
We use this technique in South Africa often...to get bigger baits into deeper water
It's called ski lift here in Colorado, for Brookies! Haha! Well done!!!
Best "fishing hack ever" his new way to send a bait is genius.
Its actually a pretty old style of fishing
@Luis Hernandez yessah
I have a few of those slide bait rigs from Australia in my tackle box from years ago, just can’t get myself to use them because they’re a novel item to have. I think the Hawaiian slide bait rig is more refined/better
New? Lol
@@LahuiLawaia Great, it's the first time I have seen it.
Old Fashioned Hawaiian Slide Line with modern swivels! 👍
Clip & slide is very common over here in South Africa... Nice catch mate... 👍👏
Hi, catching amberjack is the most enjoyable event in the world, congratulations. Greetings from Antalya/Side
Awesome set up
Awesome fish mate, really good set-up as well.
Can i just say u boys are one of the first videos ive seen where u take safety somewhat serious and wear life jackets
n k always jackets for us. Our coast is pretty full on and scary.
We've been fishing this way in Malaysia for decades
Pin rigging in the USA, a similar setup, everyone uses them for cobia and king mackerel off piers
This is called a "Jacksonville Rig" here in FLA. I was catching big jacks this way when I was a boy.
May be a new technique in Oz, but here in SA it's been used for ages when targeting bigger fish behind the breakers.
What's a breakaway leader?
Awesome technique! Great fishing spot!!
Gotta love slide baiting. Aloha from Maui!
Thats pretty neat. I diff gonna try this. Thanks for the vid guys.
