- ♡ Hey cuties! ♡ I’m Tyler and I’m a recently graduated high school senior (class of 2020) and a current gap year student! I went through the ~infamous~ college application process during the 2019-2020 cycle and throughout my journey I was greatly moved and inspired by the videos of other TH-camrs that came before me and wanted to provide my experiences to help inspire others to know they can achieve their college aspirations, too. Representation in higherEd is SO important and I hope that other students out there can feel seen by this video and motivated to achieve their dreams.
In 2020 I applied to 16 schools: Brown University, Columbia University, Duke University, Emory University, Northwestern University, Princeton University, Sarah Lawrence College, Savannah College of Art and Design, Spelman College, Stanford University, University of Michigan, University of Pennsylvania, University of Southern California, Vanderbilt University, Yale University, and Georgetown University. I created this video to share my college application journey and give back to the TH-cam community which motivated me so much during this process! Please note that your experience may look different from mine and that is A-OKAY! You’re charting your own path to your OWN, unique future.

Regular private college $$
Public university is rank top but hard to get in.
Where u go is $$$. You just have to decide..... Did you get full scholarship?
It’s like saying my daughter and all her bbf and childhood good friends who are Valedictorian should go elsewhere. Most just choose locally UCM to save $$. Only one went to UCB and UCLA. I would laughed if you go to Stanford only to major in Sociology. You can do that at lower college/university like CSU. The school sound good but major ? then finding job nowhere.
@@yya6264 What matters is what you do with your major, not just what that major is.
@@yya6264 While mostly I agree with you there are definitely some exceptions. If like you say they go to a top school and choose a major with low return on the investment then unless they are getting some major scholarship assistance that was probably a poor choice and they will have debt as big as a mortgage for years. For instance I watched one decision video where the student decided to go to UPenn for a nursing degree. I've been a nurse for years and with very, very few exceptions nurses will never get a return on that investment even with a Masters degree. Maybe a PhD and writing a text book will get you a return.
@@yya6264 nah the ivy's give you a rubber stamp. If you major in sociology at stanford, you can basically take your degree anywhere in the field. unlike less prestigious schools. You can also outclass some people who already have some (5 years even) experience in your field. Top 15ish schools have an admittedly unfair weight to them and their alumni are such rarities that they are put on a pedestal in hiring practices. In HR I have come across 2 ivy league graduates and they both got the positions over the other equally/more qualified applicants. It's kind of like an additional qualification in itself.

@@nneomaudoyeh2463 hey! i applied to four ivies and was accepted to cornell and brown, waitlisted by harvard, and was unfortunately rejected by upenn (which was kinda my top choice out of the ivies but it’s all good!!). now i’m in the process of choosing a school, which has been a lot harder than i anticipated, but nonetheless i’m feeling very grateful to have so many amazing options :)
