    no, THANK YOU for posting this video. After binge-watching these videos, you (meaning I) start to feel insecure about who you are as a student or a person. I've started writing my Common app essay and I felt super stressed about it. Thank you for reminding me that I don't need an ivy league or top-tier school to be successful. Much love

    Wow! You are going to go far in life! With your level of maturity and realism you are going to do well no matter what you do. It’s so refreshing to see a young person take these hits of rejection with such a philosophical outlook on it all. So many place their worth on getting into the best universities and achieving only the best grades all of the time that they forget that sometimes the university that is best for them often isn’t the big name, it’s often the one with excellent pastoral care where developing the whole person is what counts, not just the academic person.
    I think you’ll do well no matter where you choose to study.

    • @senanigans
      @senanigans  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      completely agree about how college should develop the whole person~ thank you so much, it means a lot!

    You know, it wasn’t just the number of students applying to UC’s and top schools that made the process unusually competitive this year. Think about all of the kids who got in last year and deferred because of COVID. That likely left a lot less space for kids applying for this fall.

    • @kimbridge
      @kimbridge 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Katie Ellen Tu
      I don’t know if the number of kids “cheating” during COVID made that much of a difference in the size of the applicant pool. I’ve read quite a few articles about declining grades and involvement in school districts caused by remote learning.
      I think the decision to make ACT/SAT optional at many top colleges had a much bigger impact on how many students applied.

    What you make of your college experience is much more important than where you go. You can go to Harvard and have all the resources in the world, but if you don’t take advantage of them, it’s worse than going to your state school and taking advantage of the resources there. Some of the most successful people I know didn’t get into a top undergraduate institution straight out of high school, they just made the most of the institution they were at and transferred, graduated at the top of their class, networked, etc. Going to a T-10/T-20 is an amazing opportunity, but not going to one definitely won’t prevent you from achieving your dreams

  • @aslam4923

  • @aidanpayan2033
    @aidanpayan2033 3 ปีที่แล้ว +71

    This was such a good video. I get caught up in the prestige and name brand that these T-10, T-20 schools offer without thinking about If the school is a right fit for me. After careful consideration I realized that my safety school is a much better fit than UCLA, USC, Harvard, etc. and that makes rejection hurt so much less. Where you go doesn’t define you as a person. You are super mature, have a great mindset, and work ethic based on your GPA and ECs. You’ll be successful wherever you go!

    i LOVE your talk at the end it is honestly such a good message that people should listen to more. even if you make it into a T10 or T20 school, it doesn't get easier from there and it matters more your own hard work and determination than it does the school you go to. wishing you luck in the future!!

    You will end up where you are suppose to and you will thrive. Your stats are really good, actually, it’s great. I’m shocked you didn’t get into the majority of the UCs but I think the unprecedented number of applications made this an unpredictable year.

    I hope that all those kids scrolling through these college decision videos come across this one. Love the ending message you gave! I was in the same exact boat 2 years ago and totally could relate to watching all those college decision videos. Heightens your expectations way too much. I’m gonna give some advice thats said very often but not appreciated enough. If you’re not feeling the colleges you got into, think about community college. With the amount of APs you took, you could totally transfer in one year to USC and even UCLA. You could even apply to Cornell (has a p high transfer acceptance rate) and other private universities. Just needed to get that off my chest bc it was useful for me and might be for others. Do your research and figure out what path is right for YOU. UCD and UCSC are great schools and know many ppl who love it there! From this one video I saw, you have a good personality and will be successful wherever you go.

    Thank you for posting this! I applied to 8 schools (as an international student) and got into 2 (waitlisted/ rejected from the rest). Although I am very happy with the two I got into, I was starting to, as you said, equate my self-worth to how many acceptances/ rejections I got. The admission process seems to have been very random & unpredictable this year. I appreciate this video and really love the message at the end! :)

    • @yeldam8394
      @yeldam8394 3 ปีที่แล้ว +45

      As a former Californian high school student, I can think of why she was probably rejected from Ivies but am surprised about the UCs. Her extracurriculars are kinda what every student does in Cali tbh. I knew so many kids that did fundraisers and those summer programs. It doesn’t really stand out for Ivies. However, I know a lot of ppl who had the same stats as her that got into UCLA and people with lower stats that got into UCSD. The only thing I can think of is that she might’ve applied to a competitive major. And like someone mentioned, lots of ppl took a gap year leaving less room and all that COVID stuff she mentioned. I haven’t seen any other acceptance videos (this just happened to be on my recommended lol) but maybe they’ve also gotten just as competitive and picky as Ivies bc of how many kids applied.

    • @icon6200
      @icon6200 3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      as she mentioned shes from the bay area so a lot of the kids in her graduating class/area will have similar stats and achievements (the bay area is an incredibly populated region of cali mainly by upper middle class people). So many colleges that have a cap on the amount of students for each state/area will make it harder for bay area kids as thousands of them are applying to UCs and Ivies every year and prestigious schools often want diversity in location for students coming to their school.

    I am glad that you you are not letting yourself define by the schools that rejected you and that you have the force in you to put this video. In the end, it does't really matter. Look at Sathya Nadela. He didn't get into the prestigious IITs in India. He didn't go to even a known school in the US for his Master's degree. Yet, he is the CEO of Microsoft.

    Things have certainly changed a lot since 2003 when I applied to universities. I have to wonder if it's even worth pushing your kids so hard as opposed to prioritizing quality of life (note, I am not indicating that the senanigans was pushed too much by her family).
