What’s a likely letter?
@@shreiya It's kind of an early acceptance. Some colleges send out these letters to outstanding students before the official decision day when they'll accept/deny everybody else. I guess they send them because they really what said student to go to their school and this way they'll have more time to decide
Imagine how hard it’d be for Asians, South Asians and Jews to get accepted to Harvard, Duke, Columbia at once. Affirmative action.

Imagine being deferred by Tulane and then receiving likely letters from Harvard and Columbia (besides a bunch of other acceptances)

Camila Guerra Tulane yield protects, which means they reject or defer people who are overqualified!!
Tulane will not accept people who have gone for an official tour on campus.
Tulane does that to people who they don’t think will come anyways
What I heard from some of the admission officers is that if your stats is very above they usually will reject you or waitlist you knowing that you will not be going to their school so they don't want to waste an offer spot.

a lot of schools reject people who are highly overqualified because they know the chances of that person attending are slim, it's called yield protection, they like to keep the % of students that get in as low as possible because it makes them look competitive on paper and they like to keep the % of students admitted who choose to attend high because it makes them look desirable, the college admissions process is... not it sometimes lol

I have never seen someone get accepted into Harvard.... I can just imagine how proud your family, and especially you, are!! Lol,though just a first grader, he is a straight A student at one of the best schools in America, do you have any advice for me ?, study habits,things that you did in your youth ect ..? Congrats on choosing Columbia, I used to work with Morgan Stanley in New York, it's no place like New York City for college.
