I played guitar for Willie the last ten years of his life. While he managed to only work 2/3 times a year, it was my pleasure, and honor to work for him.
I love Willie Hutch, I met him in Rochester N.Y 1998 such a kind man with a great stature. He was an under rated composer, musician with a velvet voice. I had the pleasure of seeing him perform twice it was awesome. As you can see I am a big fan of Willie Hutch, this will help his work to be exposed to the people who never heard of him.
I'm 41 years old and I've always loved Willie Hutch and his music!!! I've always said that he was greatly underrated and unappreciated to a certain degree. To me he's in the same class with the greats such as Curtis Mayfield, Issac Hayes, James Brown, Barry White, Stevie Wonder....I could go on!! I really hope they do a big biographical movie on him still because he most certainly and greatly deserves it!!!! R.I.P. to the late great Mr. Willie Hutch and much love and respect to his family!
My uncle Wah Wah Watson was really good friends with Willie! They did a lot of work together in the same circle!!! He would be good for a story too!!! Uncle played on slot of records like Let’s Get It On, Papa Was A Rolling Stone, Carwash, Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite and some many other hits!!! RIP to both
“I choose you” was his signature song as a former D.J. and “ Party Down”. You didn’t mention neither of those songs. I was only 12 when “The Mack” album came out and it was very popular in my city in Illinois. I am surprised it didn’t rate higher than it did. “ I choose you” was on their and “Slick”, an instrumental I love called I believe “The Chase”.
That's true im from the Chi too but you know it was hard for anything on that soundtrack to top those drums on Brothers Gonna Work It Out that beat is at steppers parties ,disco and house and still hitting
My top 3 Willie Hutch joints that aren’t already listed are: 1) I wanted to be a Rock n Roll Star 2) I Can Sho Give u Love 3) Overture of Foxy Brown. Willie Hutch was an orchestral master and deserves a full documentary honoring his work and insights on his legacy. I remember his daughter sung at one time. I had her single about ten years ago. She had a beautiful voice 🧡 I am 27 years old but grew up on Willie’s music. I have most of his records. My fav composer
I love all of those songs, 1)color her sunshine, 2) she's just doing her thing, 3) Brothers gonna work it out. these are just a few of my favorite songs by Mr. Hitch.
FUN FACT: To any of you out there who is familiar with old-school gangsta rap, Willie happens to be the uncle of rappers/producers COLD 187um (Greg Hutchinson), and KOKANE (Jerry Long, Jr.), two co-founding members of legendary Pomona, CA rap group ABOVE THE LAW. They went on to become outstanding producers/arrangers/collaborators in their own right.
Thanks for this story on Mr. Willie Hutch. My favorite jams written by him were I'll Be There and Brother's Gonna Work It Out. He was indeed a gifted singer & writer.

Thank you for putting his story on the map. I'm looking forward to an "UNSUNG" documentary with live interviews and his original songs which.
Hutch was an underrated performer. Loved his singing voice, no one else sounds like he did. He was a big favorite with the pimps, players and hustlers.
One of the greatest singers, producers, and writers in the music business. I'm so happy my parents educated me about his contribution to the entertainment business. Mr. Hutch did the score and soundtracks of the movies in the 70s. His music is timeless and his flowers must be given to him for his outstanding work. R.I.P and we love you forever. 💐 💐 💐

He's very Underrated as a producer and in certain terms, the group has went under the radar in some ways too Rest In Peace & POWER👏 Willie Hutch✊️
Great episode! I did not know he was such a prolific composer/producer for Motown. One of my favorite Willie Hutch songs is entitled "Out There" on the Foxy Brown score. Very futuristic! There's a great sample of it by the Hip Hop group Robust & Pore

Love me some Willie Hutch. 🎉🎉🎉
My comments are respectful but I have to say how disappointed I am that you just glossed over his Album for The Mack movie. This is the soundtrack that made him known and famous in the 70s. Its nice knowing that he worked with The 5th Dimension and of course The hits with the Jackson 5 but I'd never heard any of his songs for the Dimensions and I was a fan. "Come on home" and "what you gonna do after the party" are two of Hutch’s most underrated songs, I was so shocked to find out someone else knew about those gems as well
Willie Hutch became a household name after the great movie the mack , period son .no one ever knew of willie hutch before the mack not taking any thing away from the man but only being truthful.
Since you asked, my favorite Willie Hutch songs (in no particular order): "I'll Be There" (courtesy the Jacksons), "Brothers Gonna Work It Out" (nod to the big homie Dr. Dre), and "In And Out". Will give Keep On Jammin' a listen, thanks for the tip!

Willie was definitely talented..
Willie Hutch is stil one of my favorite Artist, and underrated. I was exposed to his music when I was 14. I dug: Bother we Can Work it Out and I Chose You from Mack soundtrack. From Concert in Blues: Come on Home and his version of Stormy Weather, just to name a few. You can hear the piano intro of. "Come on Home" on Ghostface Killa featuring Ne Yo " Back Like That" track.
Its Brothers Gonna Work It Out...

"Come on home" and "what you gonna do after the party" are two of Hutch’s most underrated songs, I was so shocked to find out someone else knew about those gems as well
So underrated THE Willie Hutch R.i.p
How about “The way we were”? From the sound track of the movie ‘The Mack’?
Willie Hutch became a household name after the great movie the mack , period son .no one ever knew of willie hutch before the mack not taking any thing away from the man but only being truthful.
His nephew is rapper Cold 187um from the group Above the Law.
Wow
Since you asked, my favorite Willie Hutch songs (in no particular order): "I'll Be There" (courtesy the Jacksons), "Brothers Gonna Work It Out" (nod to the big homie Dr. Dre), and "In And Out". Will give Keep On Jammin' a listen, thanks for the tip!
